Switch to 4k or keep ultrawide?

I have this beautiful msi 491cqp oled I got about half a year ago and it has been pretty great. I just have one issue with it I didn't adress when buying it, and that is clarity with DLSS.

I have a 5080 and because of the 1440p resolution I have to use DLSS quality in almost every game to get a sharp image, and that takes away from performance. Sometimes DLSS quality even looks blurry. DLSS performance on 4k looks sharper and better than DLSS quality on 1440p.

What should I do? Try to switch this one to a 4k monitor or keep it? The problem with selling it is that I don't have the original packaging anymore. I could also upgrade to a 5090 so the performance hit wouldn't be as big but I would have to save a bit of money.

[User Trial] A New Vision for the 5K2K Gaming Monitor: Be the First to Review the New 39GX950B

Hey r/ultrawidemasterrace,

We know the struggle of finding that absolute perfect 21:9 endgame setup. 34" can start to feel small after a while, 45" often forces a compromise on PPI, and 49" super-ultrawides can be a headache for vertical workflow. You’ve been waiting for a true "no-compromise" display that dominates both gaming and productivity.

https://preview.redd.it/i5wnndxvnptg1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=b8b45b71901916fad0febaa72bbf7be24ffc662a

We genuinely believe the new 39” 5K2K UltraGear (39GX950B) is the sweet spot you’ve been hunting for. By integrating 4th Gen Tandem W-OLED tech*****, we’ve shattered the traditional OLED brightness ceiling while maintaining the incredibly crisp 143 PPI needed for 5K2K precision.

To give you an idea of what you're working with, here are the core specs under the hood:

Feature Specification
Panel 39-inch 4th Gen Tandem OLED
Resolution 5K2K (5120 x 2160) @ 143 PPI
Refresh Rate VESA Certified Dual-Mode** (165Hz @ 5K2K / 330Hz @ WFHD)
Response Time 0.03ms (GtG)
Brightness 1,500 nits Peak*** / VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500
Adaptive Sync NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible & AMD FreeSync Premium Pro
Connectivity DP 2.1 (UHBR 20), USB Type-C (90W PD), 2x HDMI 2.1
AI Features 5K AI Upscaling, AI Sound, AI Scene Optimization
Eye Comfort UL-Verified Flicker-Free, Low Blue Light (Platinum), Eyesafe 3.0

We are looking for three testers for the 39GX950B.

We want you to integrate this W-OLED monitor into your daily setup. Give the community a "no-BS" review of this new panel technology, paired with some high-res photos of your battlestation.

Specifically, we want you to verify

  • Tandem Brightness on 5K2K: Does the dual-stack WOLED deliver the HDR impact you've been missing?
  • Ambient Light Performance: How does the panel maintain contrast and handle reflections in your specific room lighting?
  • The 143 PPI Factor: Does this pixel density finally end the "blurry text" complaints on large-format OLEDs for productivity?

My Setup/System

Just put in a new desk today, figured it was time to show my setup. Recently purchased from FB marketplace from an aerospace engineer, a Samsung LC49G95T, I was LUCKY, his work provided it and they upgraded him, so i paid $400.00 for a year old monitor in perfect condition. I was previously on triple Dell 24" monitors. Running on a moderately nice gaming rig, built around a 3080Ti GPU, 13th gen i7 3.4 and 64GB DDR5 Vengence RAM. Nothing is OC, all running stock configs. My son and I built it about 1.5 years ago, it's been a lot of fun configuring, and tweaking the lighting, I have a set of Nanoleaf shapes mostly covering the surface the PC sits on, all synched up with Signal RGB to my desktop colors. I do need to work on some cable management, lots of recent changes. I'll post another pic later at night, much more impactful!

NLR F-GT sim rig behind, running currently on a dedicated PS4 with a 34" curved monitor. Next steps include a newe seat, installing the triple monitor setup(boxed next to the rig), and connecting it all to my PC for triple monitor fun! Also going to add a full size wheel and a better seat at some point.

Ya'll have a stellar day!

Choosing my 1st oled

Never tried an OLED monitor before, currently using a 34-inch VA panel and looking to upgrade to OLED.

I don't use my PC for work, but I do spend a fair amount of time reading on internet. For gaming, most of the time I only play story-base game, 3A. Don't touch any fps competitve game. My budget not that big, so I'm wondering if it's worth picking up the recently released X36 model over the MPG 341CQPX.

I live in Vietnam and the price difference here is quite significant, also we don't have the return policy like amazon so I need to pick carefully, around $730 for the older model and $1,150 for the new one. I've watched several reviews of the new model, but since I have no prior experience with OLED, the technical differences feel a bit abstract to me. What do you guys think?

Lenovo ThinkVision P34WD-40

🇲🇾RM2,200 for a 2K screen? Is it worth it? (ThinkVision P34w-40) 🧐

Bought this ultra widescreen monitor recently and thought I’d share a quick POV for anyone looking at Ultrawides.

The Good:

•	140W Charging: One cable settle everything. Can charge my power-hungry ThinkPad or MacBook Pro no problem.

•	Colors: calibrated DCI-P3 98%. If you do design or edit video, the colors are legit.

•	Connectivity: It’s basically a Thunderbolt Dock with a screen attached. Ethernet port is 2.5Gbps also, good for my MacBook without Ethernet port

The "Weird":

•	Refresh rate is adaptive (24Hz-120Hz). Good for office work, but honestly don't buy this if you are a hard-core Tekken or Valorant player. The response time is slow for competitive gaming.

✅The Verdict:If you want a "Work Hard, Netflix Hard" monitor, this is 10/10 which this is IMPORTANT for me! If you want a gaming beast, go buy a Legion instead.

Anyone here using ThinkVision Ultra Wide Screen monitor ? 🤔

Seeking Ultrawide Productivity Monitor for Coding/Research

I’m a developer and researcher moving away from a multi-cheap-monitor setup. I'm looking to invest in a "serious" primary display. My workflow is 80% text-based (VS Code, heavy PDF reading) with 15% using DAWs, and 5% light video editing in DaVinci Resolve.

Must-Have Specs:

  • Connectivity: USB-C with Power Delivery (needs to charge a MacBook Pro, so 65W–90W+).
  • Hub Functionality: Built-in USB-A ports (the more, the better) that work via the single USB-C cable.
  • Panel Type: Must be IPS or better. I am curious about OLED for the blacks/colors but terrified of burn-in given my static coding environments. Is this a valid concern for 8+ hours of static IDE use?
  • Form Factor: Curved Ultrawide (21:9 or 32:9). I need to fit at least 3 windows comfortably.

The "Curve" Question:

I loved my friend's curved screen, but I’m confused about the "R" rating. Is a subtle curve (like 3800R) better for productivity/reading, or should I go for something more aggressive (1000R–1800R)? is going curved good at all? (when using wide screen i think yes)

I don't mind a "gaming" aesthetic as long as the panel quality is top-tier. Any recommendations?

Arm recommendations for LG 45GX950A 5K2K

Just placed an order for the 45gx950a 5k2k and need a good arm for it. I'm seeing the ergotron as the gold standard but their cable management sucks. Any alternatives?

Odyssey G93SD Help

Does it automatically refresh the pixels? I have an option that says panel refresh but im not sure if thats the same as pixel refresh. My old monitor had a panel refresh AND pixel refresh which pixel would be every 4 hours or so. I'm confused on if I should panel refresh every couple of hours or will the monitor automatically do it. Thanks.

Any Dell U4025QW + M5 Pro/Max users here?

I have both an M1 Pro 14" (personal) as well as an M4 Pro 16" (work) that I use with a Dell U4025QW. The M4 Pro works flawlessly at 120Hz using the included TB cable that came with the monitor at 3840 x 1620 with HiDPI enabled. The M1 Pro also works at 60Hz natively, but I was able to force 100Hz with BetterDisplay using the custom EDID workaround that someone posted here a while back. I am planning on replacing my personal machine with a new M5 Pro 14, but I have heard mixed results on proper 5K2K support, and even a regression compared to the M4 series. Is anyone here using this monitor (or the equivalent from HP or Lenovo with the same panel) with the M5 Pro or Max? If so, does it work with 3840 x 1620 (HiDPI enabled) at 120Hz over thunderbolt? Thanks in advance.

Pulling the trigger on an LG UltraFine 40U990A-W, need a quick sanity check

Good afternoon good people of the UWMR,
I need a quick sanity check before ordering the 40U990A-W, in case that I missed something important or missed a better option.

I am using the monitor for 75% work and 25% gaming. The work part is video editing, photo editing and 3D animation - I was impressed with what the monitor promises in the department of color accuracy and so on, and the reviews seem to confirm the promises.
The gaming part is not so important but it is mostly non-competitive shooters, adventure/RPG and strategy games. Running it off an 5070 ti and a 5800x - should be okay with FSR, turning stuff down if needed and similar, right?

I was also thinking about the Dell U4025QW, but the monitor is quite a bit pricier here (Germany) and it seems to me that it is almost the same - am I right there or is there a difference?

Also, coming from a three monitor setup and a much lower PPI, it will take some time to adjust, that I know, but is there anything I might have missed? "Forest from the trees" style? Need a quick sanity check... Thanks in advance!

Tonight, I Ascend - What Accessories/Apps/etc do you recommend?

Tonight I get my first Ultrawide delivered - ended up going with the Lenovo P40WD-40. Will be running a PC based laptop for work, and a personal PC for light gaming. I'm curious what accessories or software you might recommend for someone making the switch?

I ended up getting a monitor light (controversial, I know). I've read about video wall paper and options on Steam for that. What other recommendations do you have for a newbie?

I've been looking for a way to cover black bars

I discovered that using "OnTopReplica" was a pretty good way to go about this 16:9 problem but setting it up each time is a hassle. I was wondering if anyone has found a better method or maybe has advice to get this application to automatically do this for me? In this screenshot OntopReplica can copy the sides of your game than you can manually fit them over the black bars, but it definitely takes a second to set it up.
