Re-painting powder-coated galvanized steel bistro table

I am hoping for some tips on how to refinish / paint this bistro table. After 15yrs, the elements have done a number on her. I covered every winter, but still.

Some details:

  • Material is powder-coated galvanized steel
  • To address tarnishes & fading - I’ve tried to buff out w/ various grades of steel wool & rubbing compounds (automotive cut cleaner, etc)
  • Table has virtually no rust
  • There is some chipping, as seen in photos
  • I liked to achieve same to same finish / color
  • I live in City of Chicago where spray paint sales are 100% banned and you can’t even buy online  - so I have to use brush, or use normal can of paint w/ spray gun.

Here’s what I am thinking:

  • Use spray gun to apply acrylic bonding primer (is it necessary to prime?)
  • Use spray gun to apply epoxy or enamel based paint matched to color
  • Do I also need to clear coat?

Any tips / advice greatly appreciated!

Side note: I was tempted to just replace this table, but I looked at “Design Within Reach” (DWR) where I purchased - and they are now selling it for over $1,000 (!). I’m sure I bought on sale and spent no more than $150. DWR is a silly franchise in my opinion - supposed to be “affordable” designer furniture “in reach” for the average Joe. Ironic, b/c I think  “Design Out of Reach” is more appropriate LOL.  Also, the purport high-end quality, so I’d expect better durability. The chairs I use with table (in photo) have been in my family forever (1960s), and look brand new to this day!

Painting before renovation

Hello! I am having a baby boy in July and we just purchased a house. The house needs a new roof within the year and while we do that we are going to renovate the upstairs and change the layout including the nursery. In the meantime, I want to make a small change. The closet has wall paper with flowers a little girl dresses and no door so you see it when you walk in the room. I removed wall paper in the downstairs bathroom and it was the biggest pain in the butt, I don't think I can do that at 7mths pregnant. I really just want to paint over the wallpaper and maybe add little wave decals. As I mentioned earlier, the walls will be knocked down within the year. Is this as bad of an idea as everyone says it is or an okay temporary fix?

Also, we have plaster walls and that textured paint on the ceiling in the master bedroom the paint on the ceiling is starting to chip. Am I able to just paint over the chipped paint or will that just chip as well? It mostly falls off when it's hot/humid. Again, the room is going to be redone completely so I don't need it to be aesthetically pleasing. I just don't want paint falling on the babies face.

Any advice is appreciated!

In Desperate Need of Professional Help!

I am going to paint this play table. I know I need to sand it, but what kind of paint should I use? I have heard to use a “water-based urethane alkyd enamel.” I don’t even know what that is.

For more info, I’m going to turn it into a Cars playset for my disabled child. With that being said, the paint needs to be durable and easy to clean. I want it to be black, but the top will be also be painted with acrylics. So I assume I will need a topcoat? Will I need primer, too?

What is the cheapest way to do this with the best outcome for our specific needs?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
