Painting before renovation

Hello! I am having a baby boy in July and we just purchased a house. The house needs a new roof within the year and while we do that we are going to renovate the upstairs and change the layout including the nursery. In the meantime, I want to make a small change. The closet has wall paper with flowers a little girl dresses and no door so you see it when you walk in the room. I removed wall paper in the downstairs bathroom and it was the biggest pain in the butt, I don't think I can do that at 7mths pregnant. I really just want to paint over the wallpaper and maybe add little wave decals. As I mentioned earlier, the walls will be knocked down within the year. Is this as bad of an idea as everyone says it is or an okay temporary fix?

Also, we have plaster walls and that textured paint on the ceiling in the master bedroom the paint on the ceiling is starting to chip. Am I able to just paint over the chipped paint or will that just chip as well? It mostly falls off when it's hot/humid. Again, the room is going to be redone completely so I don't need it to be aesthetically pleasing. I just don't want paint falling on the babies face.

Any advice is appreciated!
