17-4 stainless tube
1.25mm thick or 17ish guage
1.5” diameter tube
35amps (prob should have used 40 and been a bit better with petal control)

This is about 6 hours of experience across two days.
Being taught in my free time at work. Semi brief explanation and given the time to experiment and try things out.

The aluminum was a joke he had me try 45 minutes in, it’s maybe a 1mm thick.

As the title says. Learned a tonne of stuff, especially things that don't work.

Done some MMA and MIG stuff is the past, but this is the first time I've touched a TIG welder. I really need to find a proper position in which to weld, now I just stood crouched over the thing. Also, when starting, do so starting from the thicker part :D

Looking at the joint I guess what I did was closer to brazing than welding, but if it'll hold water, it "will do, piggy".

Tho, I'm all ears for tips. I already know I need a chair or something to release the strain from my muscles. And some kind of jig that allows the rotation and flexible positioning of the item would help a lot, now I'm just using a very old vice that can rotate 360, but it's clunky.

Second time tig welding first go at stainless

These are my first stainless tig welds. 42,7mm x 2mm tube on 6mm thick plate welded with 80
Amps. Any tips to improve? I think I am still to hot/slow right?
Also, do you guys have any tipps on how to best clean the HAZ colors? It is kinda hard to get in the corners with a cleaning disk on my angle grinder.

Thanks in advance yall!

Hey everyone,

I wanted to start a post for the guys prepping for their 6g Tig test. I remember the long hours practicing, struggling like crazy with it, and the anxiety that I faced when I finally took the test. If you've been there, drop what things you struggled with and how you overcame them - and what made the test easier to take or prep for it?

I'm curious to learn how others navigated this journey and any tips you might have for passing the test for the guys that are in the trenches right now!

And if there's anyone out there that is learning 6g with Tig, drop a comment on what you're struggling with!

Please help me with welding aluminum 😭

I know it looks horrible but it’s so confusing and different compared to normal tig on mild steel
