Running options
Every now and then I am just too tired to do anything (even sleep) after I come back from work. And only running can save me from that kind of cloudiness. What are the good running tracks in and around Sketty area? I do not listen to music while outdoor running and cannot stand to be anywhere near traffic.
New film festival starts tomorrow
Hey Everyone,
I’m helping promote a new film festival called Love Is Film Festival, starting tomorrow and running till Sunday at Urban HQ (cafe situated at the former police station in the city centre, 2 mins from the train station).
They’re screening classics like Casablanca (in the courtyard if the weather is nice), In The Mood for Love, Breathless, and a couple other acclaimed films.
They’re also screening the Welsh kids' film ‘Y Dywysoges A'r Bwgan’ for free, but there are no English subtitles.
They have 2 short-film programmes and 2 director Q&As with local Welsh filmmakers. There’s also a festival reception party and a networking event with Film Abertawe for anyone looking to network/chat with fellow film buffs or filmmakers.
Single screening tickets & weekend passes are available on Urban HQ’s Eventbrite page.
Seeing the trees come down on Kilvey Hill is making the Skyline project feel very real.
I walked past the Eastside this morning and seeing the enabling works and tree felling on Kilvey Hill really made it sink in, the gondolas are actually coming. I know the council is promising a world-class destination, but I’m not sure if I’m ready for the hill to be a construction site until 2027. Are we excited for the Luge and the views, or are we just worried about losing our quiet walking spot? Also, has anyone seen the temporary re-route for the public right of way? It looks like a bit of a trek compared to the old path.
People in England told me Swansea was an absolute shithole. One year later, here is the truth
Before moving here from England, people told us absolute rubbish like "Wales is a shithole," "Nobody moves from England to Wales," and "The city is full of druggies." Just so many vile statements. We've been here for a year now, and as a black immigrant, I genuinely believe Wales is the best country in Britain. The people are warm, lovely, and treat strangers like their own. Back in England, your neighbours won't even speak to you, and supermarket security will shadow you like you're a criminal. Now I live in Clydach, a quiet, peaceful, and incredibly friendly neighbourhood. Beyond the beautiful, serene environment, I also get to enjoy much cheaper car insurance thanks to the 20mph speed limits. I also play football for my local club, and traveling for away games gives me the chance to see all the beautiful surrounding towns, incredible mountains, and valleys. I visited Pembrey Country Park last week and it was absolutely fantastic! There is just so much to explore in Wales, and I am incredibly grateful to live here. Honestly, I struggle to find a single thing I dislike about Swansea and, by extension, Wales as a whole. Diolch Cymru
