Recently Me and my wife got new jobs. The problem is her job is in Leatherhead fiver days a week 9:30 to 6:30 and my job is in Richmond 9:00 to 5:00 3 days a week and 2 days WFH. Currently we live in Roehampton area SW London.

We are planning to move but can’t seem to find a perfect spot where we both can manage the commute and also save some money as well. We found really good apartments in Leatherhead it’s called OAK Gate we can get one bedroom apartment with all the amenities for 1750£. I love the idea and really think we should move as it’ll make her life easier as well but I’m not sure about my commute it’s 1:10 mins on SWR or an hour drive. Can someone from experience tell if it’s manageable in longterm and also we are worried we might not like the life in Leatherhead. It might be too boring I couldn’t find useful information about it online so would love some thoughts on the idea.

Also if you can recommend any other affordable place where we both can easily commute from without sacrificing the London life that’d be awesome as well.

We tried to look in Wimbledon but it’s too expensive for us couldn’t find anything nice in our budget.

Edit I’m 29 and she is 27 no kids. We don’t like to party or drink. We just normally go for walks, nice coffee shops or read books.

Hey! First time Reddit posting so hopefully this is ok.
A small push for our martial arts academy

Most people think sword fighting belongs in films, games, or history books.

At MAHS (Manley Academy of Historical Swordsmanship), we teach it as a living martial art—part combat system, part personal development, and part community.

Our system has been passed down through generations of Masters of Arms, preserving real martial traditions while evolving them for modern students.

I’m Toby Manley, a Master of Arms, and alongside other senior instructors and masters within the academy, we teach a structured syllabus that can take you as far as you want to go:

Longsword
Rapier
Rapier & Dagger
Sabre
Quarterstaff
Single Stick
Knife
Muay Thai

We also develop the physical side of combat performance through:

Strength training
Endurance development
Animalistic movement training
Mobility work
Personal training
1-to-1 coaching
Nutrition coaching from qualified professionals

This is structured martial training built around real pressure drills, sparring, movement development, fitness, discipline, and progression.

That said—we also regularly help actors, performers, stunt professionals, and reenactors develop more authentic movement and weapon handling for stage and screen.

We’ve built a welcoming academy with mixed genders, varying experience levels, and different goals.

Some members come purely for fitness and fun.
Some want confidence.
Some want authentic combat skill.
Some want to improve their athleticism.
Some want to go deep into the historical systems and master the arts.

Whether you want:

a unique hobby
real martial skill
improved fitness
authentic weapon training
personal development
or a community that feels bigger than just another gym class

MAHS might be for you.

Based in Lower Kingswood & Epsom, Surrey, UK.

Beginners welcome.
No experience required.

Train the tradition. Carry it forward.

DM if interested.

I’ve been living in Surrey for 8 years, always running and walking along the Thames and in parks with trees, never saw one despite actively looking.

Based on the guides they should be quite common along the Thames. Did anyone see one yet?

Hi fellow Redditers,

I am 26 year old woman in a same sex relationship.

I am looking for a church which is LGBT friendly / inclusive within 30 mins of Leatherhead. It would be nice for there to be a strong young adult community. I am not picky with Christian denominations. I know that Methodist churches do same sex blessings.

I have looked on the Inclusive churches website and I have been recommended:

URC Guildford
Epsom Methodist
St John’s Redhill
Holy Trinity St Mary’s

I’d really appreciate it if anyone had any advice or recommendations?

I am not looking to start a theological debate. Just trying to find a community :)

Hello All, I am in the process of selling my house in East London. Now the background.

We are a Muslim family(Indian, wife is Pakistani and Son is confused). Husband, Wife and a Son who is in Cambridge University studying Medicines (to be a Doctor). I am an IT Consultant work from home full time. My wife is a house wife wears Hijab. We have been to reigate and viewed a few houses. Area looks very nice. I have a good feeling about the Area. The question is, I am looking for detached house with front yard, garage and a good sized garden. I want a house near nature. I have seen Redhill and wasnt much impressed. I am wondering if you nice people of Surrey can guide me which are I should choose? We need access to a Mosque, Halal shops etc (short drive is fine). We have had a few racist encounters in london and are looking for a safer mixed upper Middle class/middle class area to be our final home where we feel welcome, go for walks without worrying. Also, not near any council estates please. We would welcome your suggestions and "one liner puns". Thank you all.

Hi all,

I have found a house situated in TW15 on School Road that appears to suit most of my families needs.

I don't know the area at all so wanted to ask if anyone was familiar with this road/area and what the general thoughts on it were - in particular, how is the noise from Heathrow around this area and what's the traffic like? It looks close-ish to Thorpe Park so wondered if that was a concern.

Ideally we are just looking for somewhere relatively safe, decent schools, decent transport and a few decent food shops or places (cafes, any green etc) that we can walk to would be great.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, pretty much what the title says. I have moved to Guildford a week ago, stay in a residential area and work in the GU3 business park. I'm Indian and probably the only Indian in my area and workplace. They're all very nice but they already have their circles and it makes it hard for me to hangout with them after work. I also don't think there are places to hangout near my workplace anyway. I have lived in Nottingham previously for a few yrs and have been accustomed to a busy city centre and unlimited things to do.

I looked up on FB for an Indian community of sorts and turns out all of them are just buy/sell groups. I'm also searching for good cricket clubs so hoping I can find some kind of community there. For now: I wake up, cook, go to work, gym, but groceries on the way back home, eat, YouTube/Netflix, sleep.

We set up a stall Monday just gone at the Lower Kingswood Village Fete. A lot of good feedback and ended up really busy throughout the day. The Mayor came along and he really enjoyed it with his wife, lots of questions and entertainment from adults and kids. Can’t argue about the burger stall either!

I currently go to the Xcel but it’s absolutely rammed all hours of the day. They don’t check you for membership before entering so it’s often filled with groups where one of them scans their code and opens the door for their mates.

Is there anywhere else in the local area that is a bit less packed?

Moved here about 5 years ago (near Xcel residential area) and sometimes the loud music like tonight is awful, anyone know if this is some moronic individual or something else?

We can often hear Apps Court from here at night but sometimes like tonight it drives me mad

I’ve just launched ParentSpace, a simple tool to help parents check whether supermarket parent & child spaces are actually reliable before setting off.

I started testing it around Maidstone/Kent and the feedback was useful, so I’m expanding into other areas.

The idea is simple: “has parent parking” doesn’t tell you whether the spaces are actually usable when you arrive.

It doesn’t tell you whether:

- they’re usually full

- they’re misused

- there’s enough room to get a baby seat/pram out

- the route to the shop is safe with kids

- one supermarket is less stressful than another

If you know a Brighton/Sussex supermarket car park that’s good or awful for parent spaces, one quick rating would really help:

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/parentspace/id6764155096

Also interested to hear which ones parents avoid.

Just drove by Copsem lane (about 30 minutes ago or so) and saw about 4-5 ambulances and an ambulance car at the Copsem lane car park, and 2 of the ambulances were blocking the entrance so everyone in the car park couldn’t get out. From what a saw there were no police there - does anyone know what has happened?

We have recently acquired a house in Weybridge and I’m worried about the empty units on the high street. Is it still a nice place to live? We love its easy commute, river walks and community feel but I’m worried we’ve made a bad choice from an investment perspective. I think prices are stabilising and the ‘dramatic drops’ are a price correction but can anyone help give me any peace of mind?

Advice needed: All-Weather vs. Summer tires for an older car? (Costco quoted $1k)

Seeking advice. I stay in South Surrey, but I'll go to Van if I am getting a better deal.

(Embarrassed and worried) I still have my winter tires on. I have a 2004 Accord, buying tires worth 1k seems like wasting money.

While I want to be safe on roads and have a good grip during wet and heat conditions, I also want to understand where should I look for deals ?

I have a Costco membership, they gave me a quote of $992.80 for Michelin crossclimate2, while I am all for premium brands, but I wonder if summer tires will be cheaper. I am ok with seasonal swapping.

Could you please help me in finding good tires which will not break the bank- summers or all weather?

I'm looking to move around Woking in the near future and was curious if anyone had any advice on the matter regarding:

  • Recommended areas/areas to avoid
  • Clubs or places of interest (early 30s male, into movies, board games, hiking/fitness)
  • Social groups, in person or online (keen to meet people and make friends when settling in)

Thanks!

Living near Woking football club stadium

Hi, I’m planning to rent a place a stone’s throw away from the Woking football club stadium. I know there’s a David Lloyd’s club next door, and that it’s slightly north of Kingfield.

I don’t know much about Woking, but any thoughts on the area and anything worth knowing? Thanks in advance :)

Hi we’re considering buying a new home at Mindenhurst. Can anyone tell us whether you can hear Bisley shooting ranges from Deepcut? Also interested in whether Farnborough Airport noise is noticeable day to day. Any honest views very welcome!”

Bird watchers of the Woking-Staines area have you noticed this?

I've been a big fan of corvids my whole life and know how to tell them all apart mostly, but am not a huge bird watcher or anything even though my grandparents were and thats where I get most my knowledge. So my issue is that since the mid noughties I've been seeing these larger than normal crows, they're not ravens but are nearly a head taller than your average crow. And now I've got a family of them living fairly near me. Does anyone have any idea what they could be or have maybe seen them themselves? I honestly did use to think they were ravens but now know better, and have only seen them locally. Any clue? Terrible pic for fun.
