Carver Cosmic Haze CX 31.25 or GRLSWIRL Sunflower CX 31?

Carver Cosmic Haze CX 31.25 or GRLSWIRL Sunflower CX 31?

Heya! 🤙🏽

I'm trying to decide between the Carver Cosmic Haze CX 31.25 and the GRLSWIRL Sunflower CX 31, mainly for improving my surfing on flat days.

A bit about me: F, 163 cm / 48 kg (5'4'' / 106 lbs), around 2 years of surfing, beginner-intermediate level.

My goal is mostly to improve bottom turns, cutbacks, flow and rail-to-rail transitions.

I'm wondering how noticeable the difference really is in practice, especially:

  • does the Cosmic Haze's deeper spoon/concave help or become too locked in compared to actual surfing?

  • does the shorter wheelbase on the Sunflower make it feel too twitchy for surf training?

Would especially love input from people who actually surf, not just surfskate. Thanks!

Obligatory quiver post

Just got the Carver Blue Thunder.

Next on the list is an Egg. They are calling me lol.

The two carver boards are my faves atm.

I interviewed Jeff for my podcast and didn't fully grasp the scale of it until I started going through the conversation afterward.

It started with one park in Missoula. No grand plan, just a thing he did. That was years ago. Now there are 27, with 10 more towns already lined up for the next three years.

Some of the kids from the first parks he built were 11 at the time. They're in their 20s now. A group from the Browning Blackfeet Reservation is about to drive 1,200 miles to follow him to a grand opening at Standing Rock.

Montana has one of the highest suicide rates in the country. He didn't say that to make a point. It just came up.

The clip is short — about 5 minutes. Felt like the right place to share it.

3 Surfskate Stance Mistakes (and how to fix them)

Since Life got in the way—It took me 5 years now to finally get back to YouTube and making Surfskate Tutorials. But I'm finally back and having tons of fun making these videos 🤙🏼

Please roast me and let me know what I might've missed or what could be improved.

In this video I'm going to share three very common mistakes when it comes to stance on the surfskate. They might feel completely natural on the board — but won't translate into good skill progression and unfortunately are a killer in the ocean on your surfboard as well (if you care about this at all).

I'll show you what they are, how to spot them in yourself, and how to fix them.

Which surf skateboard is better?

Hi guys! I'm torn between these two surfskateboards. Can you help me decide which is better for surf feeling, cruising around town, and maybe in bowls too, that also offers stability and comfort?

I'm 45kg and 4'11" in height.

These are the specs:

Carver Resin 31" V5 surfskate board front truck: CX 6.5” Rear Truck: C2 6.5” wheels: 65mm / 83A Smoke Slicks grip paper: Deck Pad construction material: maple length: 31” width: 9.875” tail: 6.25” nose: 3.5” wheelbase: 17”

Carver Sunflower 31" V5 surfskate board front truck: CX rear truck: C2 wheels: 65mm / 83A White Slicks Grip paper: Sunflower Print construction material: maple length: 31” width: 10” wheelbase: 16.125”

Thank you very much for your insights.

Can I turn this cruiser into a surfskate ?

I’m 32, skated a bit in my teens and recently got this street cruiser (8.4 x 29.4). I mostly cruise around and been going to the pump track once a week. I bought the same board for my gf but she doesn’t use it as much. She says she’d prefer a surfskate so I was wondering if I could just pop some surfskate trucks on her board or if she’d be better off buying a cheap complete surfskate instead. Any thoughts ? Which trucks would you recommend if swapping is a good idea ?

Edit: thanks everyone 🙏🏼 the carver CX have been mentioned a couple of time and seem to be a good idea. I’ve just ordered a Chinese knock off to get a feel of it. I’m excited to try it out 🤘🏼

Swap the trucks or buying a new board?

Hey there,

I’m a 33 year old mom, and lately I’ve been wanting to pick up a hobby again that is just for myself and to free my mind.

I used to longboard when I was a teen for several years, so I am not a completely bloody beginner. I recently started looking into surfskates/carver boards because they look so much fun and I have a pumptrack close by.

I still have this cruiser board and was wondering if it would make sense to just swap the trucks to get a similar feeling or if that’s kind of pointless and I should just get a proper surfskate instead?

Not looking to do tricks or anything crazy, mostly just cruising around on pumptracks or on the streets and having fun.

Would love some advice from people who know more than I do. Thank you all!

Newish rider looking for help

Hi everyone.
I recently started longboarding and tried a (probably budget) surfskate. I fell in love with surfskating pretty quickly, and I'm now looking for a board of my own.

I would want to use it mostly for surfing, cruising, and pumptracks. I'm 189 cm tall.

Can you recommend me a board? I've been looking at Yow and Carver, so price isn't that big of a deal for me. Located in Western Europe btw.

Noob question

Just got my carver last week!! 😍

I’m a bit confused - all the video tutorials are saying my front foot should be the stronger foot. (For me this is the right foot)

This is the complete opposite for surfing where my right/stronger foot is the back foot. Initially got the carver so I can improve my surfing so this is confusing!

I tried having my left foot front on the carver (and kicking with the right foot) but it’s so impossible for me (and unstable).

After just a couple of days these marks started to appear. Im guessing theyre from the wheels biting into the board. Is there something that could happen? how do I prevent this?

Converted minnow to surfskate

I’m new to surfskating. Usually a long boarder but this is so much fun I’m not sure I’ll go back! Do you gain more speed with longer or shorter turns?

Long time fan of Loaded boards. Tan Tien flex 3 is one of the best longboard ever made and I've cherished mine for years. I ride a Tesseract Basalt when I want to do more tricky stuff.

I've been hunting for a Bhangra or Tarab for a while now. I want a BIG BOY board but don't want to buy a new one for $389 plus shipping 😬

I found this Tarab II on FB marketplace listed for $200, paid $150. It's a little dirty, definitely been ridden. I don't mind this tho, I wont feel as bad when I wiff a trick and it lands on its top. Watching the road eat the Tesseract I bought brand new has been painful. It's on Carver Surfskate trucks with a bunch of risers which isn't really my thing but I'm not upset about it. Sector 9 wheels on the front, some no names on the rear.

It's tall but the ride is actually really neat! I know smaller boards are usually used for surfskates, but having a 30.5 inch wheel base on 47 inches to work with is crazy. The weight of the thing pivoting around the rear trucks feels suuuuper surfy. It really feels like a surfboard pivoting around the fins. I might even move it to the longer wheel base to test it out.

All that being said, I'm gonna clean it up and throw a on set of Paris trucks and smaller O'tangs like the Lord intended. I want to get better at cross steps and Peter Pans.

Thoughts on my find? Who tf built this thing? What would you do with it?

Thx for reading! 🐦

How to get more pumpable setup

Hi, I got a Carver C5 and I really really like it!

Replaced the bushings to Ritide APS, and the wheels to Hawgs 60mm (78A).

I'm a beginner (skated as young) and for now, I don't have any ambition of skating in park / bowl, but rather to go slow and learn to get flow in carving and pushing.

I wonder if there is something besides switching to (Carver CX), to get some more propulsion from my attempts of pumping. I'm considering getting some bigger wheels with risers, and even switching deck. I know the best thing is to practice and I am doing that. But I also like experimenting with setups.

I heard so much about the Comet Cruiser, so perhaps go tell me how experiment with my setup to go closer to what I seen other riders experience. I get that the Comet Cruiser is a different bord entirely with flex-deck and wedging and perhaps the "combination" is the secret sauce.

Any thoughts are welcome, and I would like to learn and understand mostly what to expect and how things work (I'm an engineer).

Which surfskate to buy

Hey guys, I’m 5’7 ish. I weigh around 73 kgs I think.
I’m beginner but athletic and pick up things fast, the idea would be to practise move around in town (India) - the roads ain’t that great but I could find some patches that would work.

I’m having a friend come to India soon and was looking for recommendations on which surfskate to purchase.

Please help 🙏🏽

(The idea would also be to get some surf style movements in there through it if possible - although I’ve heard it doesn’t fully replicate surfing but still helps somewhat)

Noticed these on Status website, but havent seen any on here. Apparently sector 9 have created a front surfskate truck, but they dont have a ton of info about it out there. They dont even mention whether its spring or bushing based.
