Moving to St. Albert

We are moving to the riverside area early June from Saskatchewan and currently shopping around for ultilities, home and car insurance. Wow, we have been shocked thus far by the prices, for example: we own two 2020 cars and pay approximately $3400 with two comphrensive policies which cover almost everything and yesterday we were quoted $6000! Looking for reasonable recommendations which won’t break the bank.

Moving to Akinsdale

Hi everyone! I’m planning to move to St. Albert and I’ve been looking at houses in Akinsdale because I really like the proximity to the highway and the easy access to Edmonton.
I’d love to hear honest opinions from locals about the area. What would you say are the biggest pros and cons of living in Akinsdale?
Also, in your opinion, what’s considered a fair/normal price these days for a house around 2,000 sq ft in the area? I’ve noticed the price range seems really wide, so I’m trying to understand what’s actually reasonable.

Hi! I live near St. Albert and I’m thinking of starting a small business.

I don’t want to just guess what people want, so I’d love honest opinions from locals.

What’s something you feel is missing here that you’d actually go to (and spend money on regularly)?

Some ideas I’ve been considering:

• Japanese-style dessert café (fluffy pancakes, matcha drinks, soft serve, light brunch options)

• Cozy ramen restaurant (more authentic, dine-in experience—not fast food style)

• Cute gift shop (Miniso/Sanrio vibe—small “nifty” items like keychains, stationery, plushies, etc.)

Would you personally go to any of these? Why or why not?

Or is there something else you wish St. Albert had? (food, retail, experiences—anything!)

Ideally something family-friendly and not too expensive—somewhere you’d go more than once, not just a one-time visit.

Thanks in advance for any input.

What’s a place you currently go to in Edmonton instead because St. Albert doesn’t have it?

So my daughter was invited to a birthday party for the next coming weekend from a friend in her class.

She was so excited when she brought home the invitation as this is the first party she's been invited to.

When I read it they said that each child needs to bring $50 to help cover the cost of their outtings. This obviously doesn't include a gift.

Now my question is, am I right to feel a little angry/annoyed at this? Almost like they're demanding money. I get it things are expensive. But I cannot cover that! We just paid rent and stuff and I have about $25 left to my name until next pay. I can get the girl a small gift but cannot throw an extra $50 on top even if i wanted to.

What would you guys do in this case?

I obviously want my girl to go but I'm thinking ill have to tell her no.

Also is this a normal thing to do? Growing up when I went to and had birthdays, no one ever asked for this ever!

This is just a bit outrageous to me...

Landscape design for hire

Has anyone used or know of someone who can do landscape design drawings?

We want to hire someone to help us create a blueprint that we can chip away at for the next few years.

Largeish sized lot in the gardens. Wanting to get to both front and back yards in a sort of MCM style.

Picture just a random example.

I travel all over Canada due to my work, I frequently have to navigate to find parking when I find myself in major cities but this town man, probably the worst road design I’ve ever experienced. It’s like it’s fucking New York here!

I wanted to stop in for McDonald’s and they designed the parking lot so small that you’d have to do a 5 point turn minimum to go the other way and scan for parking spots , otherwise your back on Saint-Albert Tr.

There is quite literally no where to park, the roads are worse then when I was working in Victoria. I genuinely cry a bit on the inside when I hear we have any projects in St Albert.

Sorry if this is your home but this place genuinely sucks. I’m prepared for a ban and downvotes cause I know how subreddits and reddit works in general when someone comments something on topic but against the majority view . This is a rant more than anything .

Depression/ADHD diagnosis for adults?

Looking for recommendations to get tested. Locations that take a broad approach to determine a diagnosis. Preferably one that does some kind of brain scan (if that's even a thing) Subsidized if possible, or full price if quicker. In my early 20's if that makes a difference for eligible programs

Hello! I'm moving in the next few months with my wife and our two boys. We are researching daycares and we like these four options:

- Daycare on Reil

- Grandma Gooch

- St. Albert Montessori School

- Tot Spot Academy

Does anyone have any experience with any of them? Do you specifically suggest any of them? It looks like all of them have spots for us when we arrive. Thanks in advance!

My parents live in st Albert but I live in the city.

However I have the truck.

Will they need to come with me to prove they're a resident to buy a rain barrel, or do you think I can go alone? They have a couple medical appointments in the city so I'd like to divide and conquer.

Thanks!

I originally posted this with a different account but I can't log in.

So I live in Calgary i just made this account so i can ask some questions.

I tried joining the main calgary community but my account is so new it won't let me post. So I'm posting in here of hopes that someone may have answers for me.

I just secured a new job friday. I start Monday. I haven't worked for 5 months so I'm so excited. Now the problem is I do not get my EI until the 12th. I didn't think I'd actually get a job right away. The problem is I have to take transit and I dont have a bus pass or the bus fare to get there.

I'm wondering if anyone might know how I can do this? Like I said I would of posted in the calgary page but I can't because of me just having made this account.

Is there anywhere that can help me in Alberta for this?

I did call ab works and they gave me 21$
and called 211 and they told me I can get an application done to get a cheap bus pass but I start monday

I know I've already posted here but I'm really stressing out about tomorrow. please if any one has any ideas.

Hey all, I'm looking for an immediate hire in my specialty electronics retail/service shop just inside St Albert.

https://ca.indeed.com/job/retail-operations-lead-54e0b7ea5673d2e8

If you have retail experience (managerial or not), and are excited at the thought of taking ownership on the organizing, restructuring, cleaning, etc, on a super small storefront that has been rudely and sadly ignored for way too long (my own fault), please apply! You can also email me directly - jeff@onebitetechnology.ca

Don't forget a cover letter and tell me why you would be the best for this position.

Thanks!
