So my daughter was invited to a birthday party for the next coming weekend from a friend in her class.

She was so excited when she brought home the invitation as this is the first party she's been invited to.

When I read it they said that each child needs to bring $50 to help cover the cost of their outtings. This obviously doesn't include a gift.

Now my question is, am I right to feel a little angry/annoyed at this? Almost like they're demanding money. I get it things are expensive. But I cannot cover that! We just paid rent and stuff and I have about $25 left to my name until next pay. I can get the girl a small gift but cannot throw an extra $50 on top even if i wanted to.

What would you guys do in this case?

I obviously want my girl to go but I'm thinking ill have to tell her no.

Also is this a normal thing to do? Growing up when I went to and had birthdays, no one ever asked for this ever!

This is just a bit outrageous to me...
