Japanese Iced Tea

I dreamed I was in a Japanese store and found this bottle of Lemon Iced Tea, even though it definitely looked like a salad dressing bottle. The mascot was a little octopus named "I'm Your Gay Little Octopus"... yeah idk either

Behold the Famous Hardware Store Soup, from u/sprobeforebros

Three ingredients: campbell’s condensed vegetable soup, coconut milk, and a spoonful of garam masala

My thoughts? This is utterly divine. The richness of the coconut milk really brings a nice, full mouthfeel, and lends a sweeter, almost “meaty” flavor characteristic of coconut which is very welcome in this dish. While I could personally do without the alphabet noodles in the soup, nevertheless this is a wonderful way to incorporate starches into the soup. The garam masala brings a wonderful warming spice aroma to this, as well as lingers in the mouth as you swallow and exhale. Altogether this is, surprisingly, an extremely satisfying meal, which sticks to my ribs and fills me with vigor. I can see people going crazy over this soup.

Only thing I added was a bit of salt to balance the sweetness of the coconut milk. I would genuinely consider making this from scratch with the best quality vegetables I could find, and I may end up doing so sometime in the future because I have some veggie scraps and beef bones that need to be made into stock.

A very welcome addition to the culinary world!

Edit as I am eating this right now: the little bit of fat from the coconut milk is rising to the surface into little streaks of Taste Bud Heaven. I thought this couldn’t get better, but here we are.

To you, fine Redditor, who are reading this, do yourself a favor and make some Famous Hardware Store Soup, you won’t regret it!

Famous hardware store soup (and its terrible secret)

I had a dream where I was working at a neighborhood hardware store, and quickly learned that the hardware store had a reputation for its delicious and cheap soup. The soup was not sold in jars or cans or anything, it was sold out of a soup warmer behind the counter. Some people would get it in a bowl and eat it in the store. Others would get it put into a thermos, but many many people got the soup. They came for an air filter or a plumbing fitting or some light bulbs but they all left with soup.

During the course of the dream I learned that the famous soup was just campbell's condensed vegetable soup that was thinned with coconut milk instead of water and had a spoon of garam masala added. I wanted to shout it to the world, but found out I had signed a soup specific NDA so I couldn't. I seethed knowing we were charging what felt like a king's ransom for pennies worth of ingredients and no real labor. Upon awakening I felt a compulsion to share the secret of the hardware store soup with the world, and now I have.

Gwyneth Paltrow's Goodles and the Furry Takeover

I recently had a dream that Gwyneth Paltrow's brand GOOP launched a new line of instant noodles called GOODLES. They were organic, artisanal Shirataki noodles in a "miso bone broth" with anti-inflammatory spices and natural minerals.

It looked like the size of a typical instant noodle bowl made of eco-friendly material, but the best part was the art on the packaging:

The whole bowl was light pink and trendy looking and featured three little anthropomorphic forest creatures sitting on a picnic blanket in the forest, eating the Goodles. They were dressed in normal human clothes (jeans, t-shirts, hoodies), I can't remember the others but one was a fox.

This was a cute way to show how natural and eco friendly the product was. The slogan was written in big letters at the top of the bowl stating "GOODLES: GOOD NATURAL FUN!"

This product was then immediately taken over by the furry community.

Art of "Goodle Fox" was everywhere on the internet and it was inescapable. Goodles became the unofficial snack of the furry community and vender booths bagan selling them at Anthrocon.

Then, a post went viral on Twitter from a Furry convention with a picture of 3 people in fursuits, with extreme BDSM gear on, all holding the Goodle bowls. The caption read: "We're all just having some good, natural fun!"

There was then extreme backlash towards Gwenyth on social media, people began absolutely trashing her for inventing "Furry Noodles" and she was absolutely mortified. Then people started making Gwyneth Paltrow fursonas, which lead to an unhinged crashout from Gwyneth where she was crying hysterically on TikTok live.

I never got to actually try the Goodles in my dream, but I desperately wanted to despite the bad reputation they got from the furry takeover.

My version of hardware store soup, featuring curry croutons

Inspired by the original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/somnigastronomy/s/0PqTH3xzxV

The standard Campbell's condensed vegetable soup available at my grocery has noodles in it, and I didn't want noods in this soup. I wanted straight up veg.

So instead, I bought a can of Campbell's Chunky savory vegetable soup (not condensed) and heated it up with a hefty glob of coconut milk and the requisite garam masala. The only other thing I added was a bit of salt.

I also had a loaf of sourdough bread that was getting stale, so I cubed it up and made croutons with olive oil, sesame oil, butter, salt, and curry powder.

It was extremely tasty and I will 100% be doing something like this again.

The “Tahitian dream” drink & The Pink Puff

These two creations are from separate dreams. The Tahitian dream was offered to me at a bar by this guy who assured me it was the best drink ever. He described it to me only as having a layer of “dreamsicle”, swirled cold foam and then the bartender added a green layer and the tequila floater, which the guy was super excited about for some reason. I never got to taste it in my dream, as the casino I was in started to sink.

The pink puff was a welcome bite/appetizer situation. I keep dining and dashing at the same very fancy restaurant/club in my dream, and they recognize me but let me in anyway, and offer me a pink puff every single time. And I eat it and think “gotcha again, sucka”

I made the famous hardware store soup (by u/sprobeforebros)

Okay, it’s friggin delicious. I had played with the idea of adding a cube of Japanese curry powder roux, however, all I had was the extra spicy. I didn’t want to overwhelm the base soup. Buuuuuut I also had some S&B curry japanese curry powder!

The three ingredient soup? Delicious. I did add a little bit of salt and pepper per my own taste. 10/10, would make again.

But adding the S&B curry powder? Divine. It adds a slight bit of spice and a lot of savoriness to the soup. 11/10, I am healed.

This might be one of the most comforting easy meals I’ve ever made. And my health issues are kicking my butt, so I highly, highly, HIGHLY appreciate something so easy and delicious for dinner. I do agree with u/dinosaurusdickus that a homemade soup would be better, but it’s wonderful as is.

Nutty croissants

I dreamt that I was at a demonstration against the mistreatment of ppl with ME/CFS, which I actually did 2 days ago. My boyfriend was there, though in reality he lives in another country. At some point he asked a question to the spokesperson that everybody could hear. They misunderstood him and acted like he'd gaveley insulted the affected sick people. Everybody turned on him and he was very sad.

I wanted to comfort him, but far away I saw a stand that sold nutty croissants. And I thought wow. I'm finally dreaming of food, this is my chance to post about it on r/somnigastronomy. So I ditched my sad boyfriend and excitedly ran to the stand.

Crowds wanted to have those croissants, they were more broad than pointy and had whole pistachios, pine seeds and another light, small, made up nut inside them. The flour was laced with almond flour and the dough was slightly sweet. I tried them and they were amazing. The dough was a bit sticky and chewy, kind of like cinnamon rolls. But still with the flakey buttery vibe. I didn't register the taste of the whole nuts. But they really made the croissant more appealing and delicious looking.

I've been meaning to try making croissants for a while, so maybe I'll give it a shot!

Reese’s flavored cigarette

In retrospect; could be delicious? I can’t smoke anymore because it makes me vomit; perhaps a compensating advertisement from big tobacco infiltrating my sleeping psyche…

Had a dream about horchata flavored Coca Cola

In my dream it was called the “[Company I Work For] Necessity”. Don’t understand the correlation, but something about the flavor of coke with the cinnamon, vanilla extract, and rice really hit the spot. I could think of it as a horchata dirty soda. Might actually try this one. Used Mexican Coke for obvious reasons

Creme Brulee Tart

I dreamed that I was making a very big creme brulee. Unusually, I poured the custard into a pie dish lined with tart crust (the crust was brown, the colour of a graham cracker crust, perhaps because of the addition of a little brown sugar or molasses to the dough). I baked it and sprinkled sugar on top (because of an anomaly, all of the granulated sugar at home became sugar with spherical crystals, like pearl sugar but finer), and broiled it in the oven because I didn't have a torch.

Unfortunately, as I was taking it out of the oven, I dropped it top-down on the floor, destroying it; then, I woke up. I never got to taste the creme brulee. :(

A cocktail I dreamed of and made

I dreamt it during a troubled hangover sleep, and a year later made it for a pregame. In the dream it was a specialty of a fancy cocktail bar. They called it “the dirty donkey”. The way you make it is to make a piña colada, pour half of it out, then top off with a mixture of Hawaiian punch, whiskey, soda water, and lime.
In real life: it was quite delicious, if very very sweet. The fat from the coconut cream in the piña colada when mixed with the soda makes a wonderful froth on top. It is also a good vehicle for tons of alcohol, like a fancier jungle juice.

Today I was certain that I had a dream about a food and wrote down a note in the middle of the night to post to this sub.

When I went to check, no such note existed. It seems I had a very vivid dream about dreaming of a food, waking up, writing it down on at least 6 separate lines in my notes app, and then going back to sleep. This never happened, but I love how this sub is increasingly making its way into people’s dreams.

What I did find instead? Another note I wrote a few weeks ago in the middle of the night and forgot about completely by the next morning. It read, “We should have more rainbow garlic in this life.”

Immediately, my previous dream rushed back to me. It’s just a blip, but I was seated at a fairly nice and dimly-lit restaurant with family and a few guests around a large round (or octagonal?) black table with candles lit. A fancy server came to bring our appetizers and I didn’t even see what it was, just heard someone at the table say, “We should have more rainbow garlic in this life.”

I know I was dining with family in the dream, but what I remember is so brief I have no idea who was there or who spoke. I have the sense that the person who said this quotation, which felt worldly and wise in my dream, was a fancy and well-off friend of a family member who was responsible for us dining at such a nice restaurant to begin with.

Included a pic that somewhat resembles what I “saw” in that moment. The garlic bulb had each clove (and its attached skin) dyed different colors. They were dyed with natural or veggie dyes, which reminded me of tricolor pasta and similar foods. The pic isn’t AI or anything, just made it in adobe express with an existing background and garlic images.

Idk what it was served with but it was with something simple that was meant to pair with the garlic, so I assume bread? In my dream there was no mention of it being roasted, but I’m gonna say it was roasted, so that it makes sense as an app and isn’t just a colorful bulb of raw garlic cloves 💀

The quotation from this esteemed family friend felt wise for the presumably-seconds of the dream I remember. It was like, he was rich but kind, someone who deserved it, had seen the world, loved good food and good people, and yet wasn’t a snob. And he just thought rainbow garlic was awesome and that more things should be fun and whimsical, yet simple like that. Hence, “We should have more rainbow garlic in this life.”

Shirt up at the hardware store!

Decided to try my hand at the good stuff and the hardware store soup! I really wanted to share to this subreddit for a while, but I don't remember my dreams much so I figured I had to made something instead!

I'm not the best at being descriptive at these types of things, but I'll do my best.

The good stuff was good. Still trying to figure out my personal ratio. I'm not convinced that it's overall better than the two beverages separately. But, it's still a decent drink. However I think it can be great with some hard cider or spiced cider. Hard cider usually has some bite to it which could be nice. And I think the spices in spiced cider could play off Dr pepper very well.

As for the hardware store soup. It's really good. Added a bit of salt and pepper, and a sprinkle of curry powder. Not sure about any of my ratios, so idk if the curry powder added much. But overall it's a really good and satisfying soup. I thought beforehand that it might need some chicken or something but honestly, I think it doesn't need it. I'll absolutely be making this again. My only real complaint is that I have a smidge of coconut milk leftover that idk what to do with. That and coconut milk has a lot of calories. I'm wondering if lite coconut milk or a coconut milk beverage would still be good.

Anyway satisfied with my meal!

Good Soup!

I tried the hardware store soup…in my dream

Last night I had a dream with the Cambell’s and coconut milk soup.

I was at a fancy house with my family on vacation and I made the soup while they did BBQ outside. They kept attaching every item they cooked on the grill with kebabs and string. I asked why and was told this house is really fancy and has a cool device that will transport them to the kitchen.

When everything on the grill was finished, like sausages and chickens, a button was pressed and the grill suddenly flipped the grate up and it flung all the food into the sky. It went in a straight line, all connected by the string, into the house’s chimney. When we went inside we realized the chimney was not over a fireplace, but over the table, and all the bbq food landed perfectly on a big platter in the middle.

I served everyone soup and was trying to explain to them that I got the recipe off a place called reddit where people share their dream food. No one knew what I was talking about, but still said it was good.
