Hi guys,
I’m sooooo nervous and ashamed to say that I’m in year 12 right now but I’m switching my a levels to btec which means I’ll go to uni at 19. Just feel so ashamed, has anyone switched late and got over this feeling. Let me know

beyond cooked🫩

my offer is A\*AA for politics at kings. but i absolutely messed up my paper ones for both papers to the point where A looks so impossible that i’d have to get nearly full marks for an A. i’m confident in politics to get an A star but i just feel so shit bc i already know im not meeting my offer and results day had already came. A in english might be feasible if i like work some miracles and get 100/120 but even then hisyorib looks bleak….
anyone tell me any success stories or any unis letting them off

Can I realistically go from poor A-level grades to A/Bs in 4.5 months whilst working?

I’m 21 and honestly feel really stuck in life right now. I did poorly in my A-levels at 18, but looking back, I had a lot of personal circumstances going on at the time and I don’t think my grades reflected my actual ability at all. I know people always say that, but throughout school I was naturally quite intelligent and when I actually apply myself I do well.
Now I’m seriously considering redoing my A-levels because I don’t want doors closed for me long term, especially for university and future careers. I’d be doing Cambridge CAIE International A-levels in the October/November session because they offer exams then, but that’s only around 4.5 months away.
The subjects would likely be:
Psychology
Business
Geography
I’ve studied all of them before so I’m not starting completely from scratch, although realistically Geography is the only one I’m genuinely strong at currently. Business and Psychology I have background knowledge in but definitely not enough right now to comfortably get high grades.
The issue is I work full time, so I’m trying to figure out whether this is actually realistic or if I’m being delusional. Has anyone here gone from poor grades / almost no revision to A’s or B’s in around 4-5 months while working? Especially with CAIE?
Be brutally honest, is it possible to scrape A/B grades if I dedicate myself from now until October/November, and roughly how many hours a day would I realistically need to study?

nonchalant intl may have slightly messed up lol

Hello my lovely uni kids, please dont be mad at me for this.
So I applied to uni in the UK kind of late (apr 1st week) and I KNOW its stupid, but i actually really wanted to go to college in the US.
Long story short, i did get in to a few places in the US but they expensive ash 🫩✌️ (NYU, Purdue, Georgia Tech) slightly below Russel group rep wise i think?
In the UK I applied to KCL, UoManchester, UoBristol, UoEdinburgh and St. Andrews uni.
Rn, i’ve got offers from UoBristol and St. Andrews. By when should I expect the offers? I’ve had regular correspondence with my Admissions officer(s?) as KCL, but haven’t gotten an offer yet 😀🔫
Should I wait out, or commit to college in the US/Bristol/St.Andrews? (w/ a shit ton of debt for the US)
love u all x

IM SCARED OF GOING TO A MIXED SIXTHFORM

So, I go to an all-girls school, and I highly like it a lot. I got used to it so much that I genuinely never have interactions with a male—like, EVER. Last summer, I started working at a local cafe, and that's when I started interacting with men. Needless to say, I was SUPER awkward and weirded out. I would genuinely say some stupid shit, but I can't, like, not talk to them because it's my job. Next year, I'm going to college, and I'm lwk scared because idk if they're weird. I don't really like talking to guys, but I don't know how to reject them; like, I'm either rude or embarrassing and awkward, eww.

Given the wrong paper. What can i do?

For some context: At the beginning of Year 13, I became homeschooled, which meant I had to sit my A-levels as a private candidate. I paid over £700 to enter three A-levels through a college: Maths, Business, and Economics - all Edexcel.

With Economics specifically, I made it extremely clear multiple times through both phone calls and emails (i have proof of this) that I wanted Edexcel Economics A. I stressed this repeatedly because there are two versions of Edexcel Economics (A and B), and I was worried there could be confusion. I have clear proof from emails and other communication confirming this.

(Monday 11th May) was my first Economics exam.

When I arrived, I was seated in an exam room, but at around 9:20am they brought me an OCR English Language paper.

This was at 9:20 so already later than when the exam is supposed to begin. I tell them that they have the wrong paper. The teachers leave the room to find my paper again for another 8-9 mins.

They come back with OCR economics. I tell them again that Im sitting the edexcel paper. They go out again this time for a good 15 minutes. Its about 9:40 by now. The exam was supposed to start at 9 o clock.

This time 2 teachers come back in and tell me that this college doesnt offer Edexcel economics. At this point im literally speechless. Not once did they tell me that in the multiple emails I sent before paying and even after paying.

Not once did they say it on the phone when I was checking that I had the correct exam. I genuinely didnt even know what to say. I was already super nervous because it was my first A level exam that I had spent 2 years preparing for. If they had told me from the beginning that they did not offer that exam board, I would never have booked with that college in the first place.

At this point, I was extremely nervous and overwhelmed. This was my first A-level exam, and I was already under pressure. The teachers told me they would apply for "extenuating circumstances" and inform the exam board that I was supposed to be an Edexcel student sitting an OCR paper instead.

They then asked whether I still wanted to sit the exam.

Realistically, I felt I had no choice. If I refused to sit it, I believed I would automatically receive a U grade. So I went ahead and sat the OCR paper despite having spent the last two years preparing specifically for Edexcel Economics A. I also had never even heard of a situation like this ever happening so I couldve never known what to say. I was super nervous

I paid a large amount of money to sit these exams privately, was very clear about the exam board I needed, and despite that, I was entered for a subject specification the college apparently does not even provide. I genuinely don't even know what to do. Im still tense. I dont know who to talk to. Anyone have any advice on this matter. I guess my best option is to resit economics with the right exam board next year but doesnt resitting put me at a disadvantage for a lot of top unis? Tbh I dont even want to resit because its not even my fault. Its not fair that I have to resit because of a mistake my college made.

I then sent a long and strongly worded email to the college. I told them how much it affects my future. I asked them for:

Written confirmation of the specification and exam code i was entered for

Copies of the examination entry records submitted by my behalf

written confirmation of what has been reported to the exam board

details of any special considerations/extenuating circumstances applications being submitted

A full explanation of how this error occurred

information regarding the remedies the college intends to offer.

I sent that email to over 10 staff members at the college. I got 2 replies. One of them was from the quality offer and she said that they apologise and will try and get a refund for that specific exam. She said that they would get answers to the points and will send a full response when she has that info. I haven't got an email from the quality officer again. The other response came two days later when i asked the college if my next economics will be ocr or edexcel. They said in an email that my next exam will be OCR and that they do not offer edexcel for that subject at the college. They admitted it was an error on their part and will put a report to the exam board to take that it into consideration. And a letter to support my uni application.

I feel like the college is barely taking this seriously. I still havent got a further response and i sent that email on the 11th. I know i did badly in paper 1 for economics since it was OCR. I dont know if i should refuse paper 2 economics on monday since it is going to be OCR. I feel like its going to bite into my revision for other subjects. I have business p2 the next day and my business p1 went really well. Anyone have any idea what i should do?

I typed the stuff above in a hurry. Lmk if any of it didnt make sense. I can clarify any details

im currently grade 9 maths student, my last l2fm trial I got a grade 7-8 roughly due to it being my first time ever attempting or even doing a fm question out of lesson, I dont find the topics hard atm, but I just need some practice and I think I can get a 9 in l2fm. will I survive a-level fm? and how much extra work should I be considering to need to put in

AQA further maths

Im averaging 53-56 on my pure papers. (borderline grade B)

I need a B, but my problem is making silly mistakes or running out of time.

Is there any advice out there? I have 4 days left till pure paper 1, what can I do to maximise time efficiency and marks?

Any advice is appreciated!

What universities should I apply to?

My GCSEs are quite bad and I’m not sure what universities I should apply to for university despite being predicted an A star and two As in maths, fm and physics.

My GCSEs are 7 in maths, 8 in physics (retake in year 12), 6 english language, 5 history, 5 English lit and 4:4 combined science.

My secondary schools average grade I think was around a 3.

Imperial offer holder – can’t choose between Maths and Mechanical Engineering (even for firm/insurance). Help?

Sending this for a friend who doesn’t have Reddit.

I’ve been lucky enough to get offers from Imperial for both Maths (BSc) and Mechanical Engineering (MEng). But I’m genuinely stuck, and it’s getting to the point where I need to decide which to firm and which to insure.

The problem isn’t employability or prestige as I know both are great. It’s that I don’t know which I’m more passionate about and which degree can open me to better opportunities or better wages.

Things I’ve been asking myself but still can’t answer:

· Will I get bored of just maths as it’ll be heavier on the theoretical side?
· Will I get frustrated by the messiness of engineering (eg: approximations, tolerances, reality not matching theory)?
· Is it easier to go from maths into engineering later (e.g., computational mechanics, CFD) than from engineering into pure maths roles?
· Which degree has more flexible career options if I change my mind in 2 years?

If you studied either at Imperial or had to make a similar choice, how did you know which one you actually loved ? And how would you decide between the firm and insurance, as I don’t really have many choices for insurance either.

Thanks

Did anyone ever consider studying for a vocational qualification rather than an academic qualification ? [Year 12]

Did anyone on this sub ever consider perusing a vocational qualification for example brick laying, plumbing, electrical, hair or catering ?

If yes then what factors convinced you ?

If no what held you back ?

Also for people who peruse academic routes what type of people peruse vocational qualifications and what are your opinions on people who do them and the qualifications as a whole ?
