What color are my silkies?
Does anyone know what colors these would be? The buffs are obvious but wasn't sure if they were all just "buff" thanks in advance!
is he trying to crow?
I have four other silkies and none make this noise like what is this? i have already suspected this one is a rooster because his comb has been RED since 3 weeks old but he recently started making these noises. he’s about 7 weeks old
I had 3 silkie eggs left in my incubator Tuesday when the tornado hit us here in Mineral Wells, Tx. One decided that would be a good time to hatch and of course there was no power which meant no heat, I was at work at the time and when I got home I found the little one that hatched and tried to get it as warm as I could because it was wet and cold, the other two eggs were not ready to hatch but they were so cold, when the power finally came back on I put them back in the warm incubator and I can still see movement 4 days later so my question is has anyone ever had an egg hatch after being cold for a few hours successfully. Oh and the one that hatched will now be known as storm lol.
Is this a good coop?
Is a coop like this okay for silkies? The roosting bar is in the enclosed part and it’s low to the base so would require no jumping. I understand that they can enjoy sleeping on the actual ground so will they not climb up into here to sleep at night?
This won’t be their only space to run around. This just will be where they are safely put at night.

How to get good silkies.
I’m near KC MO. Are there any reputable silkie hatcheries you recommend?
How do I determine if they are good quality or not? I’ve read buying them from retail ends up with less fluff etc.
Thank you!
Hello! 👋
I am new-ish again to the scene, and I say that because I lived on a farm one summer and helped raise free-range chickens, but I’m not sure that even counts. Now though I have 4 baby silkies and I am over the moon excited. I have SOOOO many questions.
First- if I want to prophylacticly treat my chicks for coccidiosis, what product should I use? I looked at Tractor Supply and their corid is labeled for bovine 🐮. Which I don’t think will work.
Second- I live in the south where we get a decent amount of rain. I plan on buying a pre-fab coop with a run and want to know how I can prep the ground to prevent my babies from getting too muddy and possibly sick. (Ditches, gravel layers, etc)
Third- along the same lines, I am finding a lot of runs with a flat, unprotected roof. Can anyone coach me on how to create a slanted roof (thinking of using the plastic panels) for my run? While I know a tarp would get the job done, I’m trying to keep it visually appealing.
Lastly- any recommendations for a first time chick mom is greatly appreciated! I am so excited about this journey! My husband doesn’t understand what he has agreed to, I’m already looking at bows and diapers for my babies 🤣.
Help with sexing please
Brown are a year old and white 5 months
Is this a rooster or a hen?
She's 6 and a halve weeks so I know its pretty young and hard to tell. We have 4 silkie chick's and she's the most dominant one so I wondered what she is and if anyone could take a look
Is this sweet baby going to be a frizzle?
Here’s a top view of one of my chicks and I am pretty sure she’s going to be a frizzle, and maybe her sibling?
The one with the more flared out wings is Mori, and then Nix comes up next to her. Oh and adding the picture of the other two in the corner with Hecate and Maeve (the one who is giving serious side-eye 🤣).
