What do you say when people judge you for liking Saw?

As the title says, I’ve noticed when I told people I was watching the Saw movies from beginning to end, I would often get judgmental looks or even people asking “why do you enjoy watching something like that”

Wondering if any of you all have experience with this and what you say!

Hoffman’s RBT

I’m rewatching the saw movies since they were added to Netflix, and I just got to 6, and was wondering was Hoffman’s Reverse Bear Trap rigged to kill him, or did Jill just rig it? I don’t remember if that was explained or not.

What was the intention for the glass coffin?

I know that originally there was a trap for some random person, and then it became Strahm’s execution trap but we see it was John Kramer who made it, what did he intend it for? And what’s the point of the glass anyway if it doesn’t do anything?

Could we consider that Seth from Superbad (2007) was just as disastrous, irresponsible, and a bad friend (at least toward Fogel/McLovin) as Ryan was in Jigsaw (2017)? I’m making myself clear below.

Superbad is one of my favorite comedies, but I hate that fat guy Seth with all my soul. He practically didn’t give a damn about his “relationship” with Fogel. Sure, the cops didn’t arrest him in the store scene, but Seth thought they did—and what does he do? “Screw Fogel, we need to get alcohol.” Letting your friend get arrested for something YOU pushed him to do is one of the most disgusting, repulsive, and cowardly things I’ve seen.

On the other hand, Ryan was an idiot. He blamed his best friend for the car crash (even though he was the one responsible) and never showed any sign of remorse about it. So… are they the same?

What was your reaction to Hoffman in a glass coffin at the end of saw 5 where the wall crushed Peter strahm and Hoffman survives in saw 6 was it confusing or what?

Would you, yes, YOU.🫵 Consider John Kramer a well written character? (Not a tier list, genuinely curious on what y'all think.)

I would say he's best written in Saw 2-4 and Saw X. The only thing I complain about is that they change his motivations like fifty fucking times.

I think the incident with Gideon dying can work, but it wasn't executed very well.

Tobin Bell carries HARD when it comes to the Kramster.

I do like that he clearly enjoys what he does, not full of Joker style but it's more a closeted sadism (similar to Billy Butcher from the Boys.)

Idk, I just like this silly old man (would be a shame if he made death traps or something.)

What are the most evil things Mark Hoffman has done?

I'd say burning Joyce Dagen alive in the brazen bull trap. She was innocent and didn't know about Bobby's lie, and gets punished for it.

Just so we're all clear, he had to play Jigsaw's game because he didn't have good bedside manners just like every other doctor ever?

Why does John like to choose abused women to test?

I can count three, maybe there’s more, but from memory, there’s Amanda (director commentary and deleted scenes said/show that her dad abused her), the woman in the spike trap (yes, she knew her daughter was also being abused by her husband, but this is sadly common with mother/daughter abuse cases as frequent abuse by a partner can be extremely complicated), and a woman that participated in Bobby Dagen’s support group.

Sure, John’s traps are designed to see if you have what it takes to survive, but there are sooo many more people that deserve to be tested imo.

Amanda was tested because she was a drug addict, but the two latter women were tested because they didn’t do anything about being abused. Again, extremely complicated and especially so when it’s difficult to provide evidence and have your abuser convicted and jailed.

John obviously would have a sense to know about how difficult abuse cases can be, since Cecil, while you might not consider it frequent abuse since it was Jill’s chosen job, Cecil did take advantage of her kindness, and then did assault her, resulting in Gideon’s death. I’d assume that they filed a police report against Cecil, yet he was never found and charged. It was apparently weeks to months between the events of Gideon’s death and Cecil’s test. While it’s not hard to imagine that he evaded the police since they’re quite incompetent in the Saw series, still, you’d think John would understand abuse victims and how difficult abuse situations can be.

Also, why did John choose an actual innocent person? Joyce didn’t know that Bobby was a liar and she had absolutely no way to survive by herself, she had to completely rely on Bobby. It was completely unfair to her.

Thoughts?

Unwinnable traps

Hey just on my yearly rewatch of the saw movies and a thought crossed my mind about how some of the traps are impossible minus the implied impossible ones of Amanda’s doing. I have so many that come to mind but an easy one for me to point at is the publicist in saw 7(the final chapter) there is no way she was going to make it out of that. Now some traps I will happily debate could be done but would be very difficult but I wanted to open the discussion up what traps did you feel were impossible to escape?
