Mine is 8.9 oz and it’s a 5 piece that I built myself. I just wanted to see what is considered optimal or normal
I am currently in the process of making a whole series of rods, all built from broken old or cheap fishing rods. Some reinforced with inserts of different materials ie.(other broken rod pieces) into the handles at the base of the rod. Curious if anyone else has done anything similar. I have a old shimono rod that I had redone the eye guides and messed with the reel seats probably 5 different times (one of my favorite rods by far), but when I broke it in the split grip right behind the reel seat I couldn’t just let my most prized rod be down and out, not like that so an aluminum rod from way back or ice fishing or something. And an old broken Zebco later I have one of the best rods I’ve ever used. But have started an obsession over the functionality and sensitivity and the science behind a great rod.
Nice to come back to a tough build like this, really gets your brain going! Loving it so far
Last one i posted some people dm'd me and said it looked bad. Is this one any good
Practicing dragon scale on an old rod. Not bad. Room for improvement.
Hello, I generally build fly rods but I’m stepping out of my general experience and venturing into spinning rods. I am planning on going with a st croix 7’ ultralight blank for panfish … I’m having trouble finding the right guides for the build with my first choice Fuji sic guides having 3 sizes , low med and high.. it seems like I need the rod the reel and the handle all built out and a plethora of guides to make it work. Does anyone have any experience with this blank or have any rules of thumb or even a recommended guide brand that doesn’t have this L,M,H thing going on that would just work and not cause any bumps on the guide rings. Any help would be much appreciated!
hey guys planning on doing a spider wrap on a mhx sb 7.11 rod using Fuji d thread I’m plan on doing a 12 inch wrap end is 11.9 and the tip is 10.5 im struggling to get my numbers any help would be appreciated!
Hey guys,
I recently ( a year ago now ) bought a 5wt fly rod blank and was really excited to build it myself. The plan was to do it with my own hands, but between family commitments and work, I’ve just never been able to find the time.
I really don’t want to leave the blank sitting there unfinished, so I’m wondering if anyone knows a skilled rod builder in Scotland who could help me assemble it. I’d love to see it brought to life properly!
Any recommendations would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!
