Reinforced / “trash rods” fishing rods built from broken discarded fishing rods?
I am currently in the process of making a whole series of rods, all built from broken old or cheap fishing rods. Some reinforced with inserts of different materials ie.(other broken rod pieces) into the handles at the base of the rod. Curious if anyone else has done anything similar. I have a old shimono rod that I had redone the eye guides and messed with the reel seats probably 5 different times (one of my favorite rods by far), but when I broke it in the split grip right behind the reel seat I couldn’t just let my most prized rod be down and out, not like that so an aluminum rod from way back or ice fishing or something. And an old broken Zebco later I have one of the best rods I’ve ever used. But have started an obsession over the functionality and sensitivity and the science behind a great rod.
