Voyaging River Craft – Free to the Right Adventurer (Near Richmond, VA)
I am giving away my river voyaging craft that has carried me on hundreds of miles of river camping, including a long trip down the Mississippi.
The boat was a pontoon-style platform built on two large inflatable tubes made by Jack’s Plastic Welding in New Mexico. These tubes are extremely durable and purpose-built for expedition use. 25 inch diameter, about 17 feet on the waterline.
This craft allowed me to travel rivers while camping anywhere along the banks—avoiding mud, bugs, snakes, poison ivy, and trespassing issues. It made quiet, independent river travel possible.
I’m not selling it. I want it to go to someone who will actually use it and have adventures with it.
Important notes:
No motor, frame or deck included. Tubes only.
Local pickup only – near Richmond, Virginia
Because of the size and weight, shipping is not possible.
Included:
Two inflatable pontoons with storage bags
Cinch straps
Pump
Light rig
Patch kit
Flare kit
Two anchors
Three 7-foot shafts
Three 9-foot shafts
Two heavy blades
One spare blade
Two sliding counterweights
Two oar keepers
Three oar locks
Assorted dry bags
If this speaks to you, tell me about the rivers you want to travel and the adventures you have in mind. Convince me it will keep voyaging, and it’s yours.
How is Cataract Canyon looking - specifically early June
Have done a fair amount of guided rafting (including some "big water") but not Cataract Canyon yet despite being on my list.
I've looked at DreamFlows, and USGS, but as everyone knows, it's an historically BAD year for snowpack, so is it already at peak?
Any (honest) feedback/predictions on what it will be like in early June is appreciated - TIA.
Valve repair suggestions?
Threading of the male end (in the Aire cell) of the C7 valve just broke inside of the capping piece. Is there a way I can get the plastic part of the old plunger assembly out of the Aire cell without cutting a hole in it?
Looking for info on rafting trip.(USA)
Don’t know if this is best place to ask but I’m doing it anyway. Looking for an all inclusive multi day rafting trip. Looking online I see multiple places in many states that offer this. I’m here to ask for any experiences or info with on best places to do it. Looking for 3 to 4 days with moderate whitewater and awesome
Scenery
Any info would be great to do this.
Thanks
Me and some friends are rafting down a very calm river in Missouri this year and we want to take a keg on the day trip with us. Has anyone ever attempted this? If so what did you use to keep the keg cold all day. Just looking for suggestions that might keep our beer cold. Thanks
I want to do a 4-day (commercial) trip in early June with my family. We're 4 adults and fairly experienced. We've done the Grand Canyon twice - one upper Canyon (6 days) and one full Canyon (15 days!). We've also done the middle fork of the Salmon, and a few smaller runs like the Arkansas and some day trips on the Rogue. We really enjoy the camping on the river experience, and the way a small tribe forms among the people rafting together.
What would you suggest would be a good next adventure for us? It would need to be a commercial trip since we haven't learned how to guide ourselves yet. That's definitely on the list!

River Tube Teethering Question
We are taking the kids ages 7,9 and 12 river tubing in Gatlinburg in August. It should be a peaceful trip with a few very light rapids. I know that it is completely dangerous to teether rafts together- so we will not allow it at all. However is there any reason it would be unsafe to have the girls hold onto a single rope to help them stay together? I assume that if anything happened they could easily let go of the rope since it is not attached to the tube.
Maybe I'm overthinking it- but you can't be too careful with large bodies of water. I'm assuming someone on here would know more than myself. Thank you!
I am trying to pick a rafting trip for my family. We will be staying in Beaver Creek in early July for a work trip so we are trying to keep it near that area. We went through Echo Canyon when our kids were younger and all enjoyed the experience; our youngest was about 8 at the time. This time the kids will be ages 16-22. We were looking at The Numbers but I do have concern it will be too rough. With the lower amount of snowfall this year, and the time of year we are going, can anyone tell me what that area would be like? If the water is low, will it be very rocky? Will it be too fast to enjoy the scenery? The other options I am looking into are Glenwood Springs, Clear Creek, and Browns Canyon. I think I have it down to Browns Canyon and The Numbers though. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!
