River Tube Teethering Question

We are taking the kids ages 7,9 and 12 river tubing in Gatlinburg in August. It should be a peaceful trip with a few very light rapids. I know that it is completely dangerous to teether rafts together- so we will not allow it at all. However is there any reason it would be unsafe to have the girls hold onto a single rope to help them stay together? I assume that if anything happened they could easily let go of the rope since it is not attached to the tube.

Maybe I'm overthinking it- but you can't be too careful with large bodies of water. I'm assuming someone on here would know more than myself. Thank you!
