Pitchers poorly impacted by bad defense:

Pic 1: infield and outfield Pic 2: just outfield

Defense has been a big problem for O’s pitchers early. Especially in the outfield. See it turning around or no?

With the recent release of the this year’s edition of the city connect jerseys, do you prefer blank or named jerseys?

I am trying to decide for myself which to go with. I am not sure I want to buy any of the current names. I would more so like to see how their careers play out. However, I think blank jerseys are a bit boring. Which do you prefer and why?

Why does Cleveland just own the O's year after year?

No matter how bad or good the two teams, Cleveland always seems to win. In 2023 we won 100 games and still didn't win the series. The last few years have been closer to even, but still, we have not won a season series since 2016. It's something between annoying and infuriating.

I feel like it's karmic payback for stealing the Browns or something. Too bad Indianapolis doesn't have a major league baseball team...

This rebuild era has been a huge disappointment

Out of all the top 100 prospects they have had since 2020, only a few have actually reached their potential which is disappointing. On paper this team looked like it could have been dominant and it’s looking like they can almost use a whole new rebuild again.

Out of all the top 100 prospects only a few have really done well in the majors.

Since 2020

Adley Rutchman- good player but has battled nothing but injuries lately. Was supposed to be the best catcher since Buster Posey but that has yet to be seen

Grayson Rodriguez- Bust and always injured

DL Hall- Traded but has been fairly successful in the bullpen for the Brewers

Ryan Mountcastle- Solid player but has regressed

Heston Kjerstad- Bust and always injured

Gunnar Henderson- Only consistent one who has been a star player

Colton Cowser- Not a complete bust but not as good as we’d hoped he be. Below league average hitter.

Jackson Holliday- Too early to tell

Jordan Westburg- Has looked good but injuries are an issue

Joey Ortiz- Traded and hasn’t looked too great

Samuel Bassalo- Too early to tell

Coby Mayo- Looking like a bust

For us that’s really 1-3 players you can say have really worked out and nether Holliday or Bassalo have done enough to grant a whole bunch of confidence that there going to be star players at the major level.

Then you move onto the other failures who weren’t top 100 prospects but players who were supposed to make a difference like Chayce McDermott and Jud Fabian that have been disappointing. Even Bradford hasn’t really inspired much confidence that he’s going to be an impactful big league player.

Second to 1.0 bWAR Party April 20th

Jeremiah Jackson has tied Taylor Ward with 1.0 🥳

Bradish didn't gain or lose any bWAR, so he's still at -.3. Baz, however, did lose .1, bringing him down to .1 on the season. Chris Bassitt gained .2, the biggest only gain in the rotation! He's sitting at -.2 on the season now.

Kremer didn't gain or lose any bWAR, so he's still at -.1 for now. Rogers lost .3, which is ranked worse than June 18th last year in Tampa (-.2,) but still better than his last start of last season on September 26th (-.5.) Povich somehow gained .1 while in AAA, so he's at .5 now.

Ryan Helsley has re-entered the top twelve, entering the five way tie for 8th. Eflin and Wolfram left.

In order: JJax and Ward 1.0; Garcia .8, Adley, Taveras, and Povich .5; Alonso .4; and Nunez, Gunnar, Helsley, Cano, Young, and Rogers .3.

Last time's in order: Ward 1; JJax .8; Garcia .7; Gunnar and TRog .6; Adley .5, Taveras and Povich .4; Young and Alonso .3; and Nunez, Cano, Eflin, and Wolfram .2.

Last season, the top twelve didn't all have 1.0 bWAR or more until September 13th. Only four of the guys in that top twelve have played for the O's this year. TRog, Gunnar, Adley, and Kremer.

An AL East batting stats in innings 1-3 vs 4-9: A "response" to Jake Rill's tweet

After the image that was posted yesterday about the team's recent struggles in the first 3 innings of games versus the final 5 innings, I decided to do a bit of a dive into comparing some of the batting splits during the same time spans and other hitting stats around the MLB. This one is just contained to the AL East because this is a bit of a time consuming task lol. BAbips on the last 3 might be a bit wonky due to calculating errors, the pitch stat choices were determined as first pitch being an obvious transferable stat, the second chosen pitch is a representation of each teams strongest ball in play pitch count (combination of highest ABs and slash line) all teams in the AL East are batting well below the Mendoza line in 2 strike counts so I see those counts/stats as irrelevant for recording. These stats are pulled from Baseball Reference and are current only to last nights games. (4/19/26)

You won't find any expert analysis from me on these stats; I'm just posting this as an aggregate stat list for the division and the team.

Closing in on Alby's first 30 days at the helm. Thoughts?

Obviously, still early in the season to tell how anyone will fair out this year. Just curious to hear what everyone thinks thus far of our new manager.

Found this clip of adley reacting to the new city connect jerseys very interesting. Sounds like him/ maybe other players were the main people behind the design!

Which young Oriole are you most confident will still be a key piece of this team five years from now?

This roster is loaded with young talent and it's exciting but realistically not all of them are going to stick around or pan out. Who's the one you'd bet on being here long-term and being a cornerstone of whatever this team becomes? Not just the most talented right now but the one you trust the most to still be producing years down the road.
