What's your go-to method for finding things to do in your city?

Hey everyone, 29M here. One thing I've always struggled with living in the city is finding local events and things to do. I'm not on any social media (Reddit is pretty much it for me), and whenever I ask around, the answer is always "just check Instagram" — which isn't super helpful if you're trying to avoid downloading yet another app.

My current approach is pretty low-tech: I just go for walks and pop into whatever spots look interesting or have a good vibe. It works sometimes, but I feel like I'm missing out on a lot.

Curious how others stay in the loop — what are your go-to methods for finding out what's happening around you?

NYC's Monday Night Lineup

We all know that Monday has a reputation. It's the villain of the week, the alarm clock you didn't ask for, and the reason Sunday evenings feel like a countdown. But New York has a funny way of making even Monday the best night of your week — and this lineup is proof. A free comedy show, a drunk Shakespeare performance that the New York Times called five stars, and a legendary poetry slam that has been shaking up NYC stages for 35 years. Here's everything happening:

FREE COMEDY SHOW + FREE DRINK Every Monday | Rodney's Comedy Club, Upper East Side | Free (1 drink minimum at happy hour prices) | 16+

Free comedy. Free cocktail. A one-drink minimum at happy hour prices. That is genuinely one of the best deals in this city and it happens every single Monday. Comedy Mob brings together a rotating lineup of both professional and up-and-coming comedians from the NYC scene, and past surprise drop-ins have included John Oliver, Ronny Chieng, and Jim Gaffigan. You show up, you laugh, you sip a free cocktail courtesy of the show's sponsor, and you leave wondering why you ever stayed home on a Monday. The answer is that you had no good reason — and now you definitely don't. Tickets: eventbrite.com/e/1100322346759

DRUNK SHAKESPEARE Multiple dates | The Ruby Theatre, Midtown | 21+

Here is the premise: five professional actors gather in a hidden library. One of them drinks five shots of whiskey. Then they all attempt to perform a Shakespearean tragedy together. The four sober actors try to keep things on track. They do not always succeed. Every single show is different depending on who is drinking and what they're drinking, which means no two nights are ever the same. The New York Times gave it five stars, Slate Magazine called it the best thing to ever happen to theatre, and Time Out gave it a five out of five. Craft cocktails are available at the full bar throughout the show. This one is an absolute classic NYC experience that somehow never gets old. Tickets: eventbrite.com/e/686320120957

NUYORICAN BOWERY SLAM Every Monday | Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery, Manhattan | $20

The legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe has temporarily moved their iconic slam series to the Bowery Poetry Club while their building undergoes renovation, and the energy has not skipped a beat. Every Monday night, poets get three minutes and one original poem per round to blow the roof off the room — no props, no musical accompaniment, just words. Judges are randomly pulled from the audience, scores run from 0 to 10, and the top poets from round one advance to round two. The winner takes home $20 cash and a spot in the monthly Final Friday Slam. Doors open at 6:30PM, slam runs from 7 to 9PM. Come to watch or come to compete — either way, you're walking into one of the most culturally important rooms in New York City. Tickets: eventbrite.com/e/779444638897
