Hey everyone, 29M here. One thing I've always struggled with living in the city is finding local events and things to do. I'm not on any social media (Reddit is pretty much it for me), and whenever I ask around, the answer is always "just check Instagram" — which isn't super helpful if you're trying to avoid downloading yet another app.

Here is the premise: five professional actors gather in a hidden library. One of them drinks five shots of whiskey. Then they all attempt to perform a Shakespearean tragedy together. The four sober actors try to keep things on track. They do not always succeed. Every single show is different depending on who is drinking and what they're drinking, which means no two nights are ever the same. The New York Times gave it five stars, Slate Magazine called it the best thing to ever happen to theatre, and Time Out gave it a five out of five. NUYORICAN BOWERY SLAM Every Monday | Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery, Manhattan | $20

The legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe has temporarily moved their iconic slam series to the Bowery Poetry Club while their building undergoes renovation, and the energy has not skipped a beat. Every Monday night, poets get three minutes and one original poem per round to blow the roof off the room — no props, no musical accompaniment, just words. Judges are randomly pulled from the audience, scores run from 0 to 10, and the top poets from round one advance to round two. The winner takes home $20 cash and a spot in the monthly Final Friday Slam. Doors open at 6:30PM, slam runs from 7 to 9PM.
