Need honest advice.

I’m 20 years old and currently in 2nd year at a low-tier private engineering college. I’m considering taking admission in a tier-2 NIT, most likely Engineering Physics.
Current situation:
- High fees, financial burden on parents
- Living in rent + stressful daily travel
- Family/health responsibilities at home
- Don’t like current college environment
- Placements are weak (~2–3 LPA)
My goals:
- Mainly govt jobs (PSC/SSC etc.)
- But open to private jobs too
- Want better environment, lower pressure, NIT tag, stronger peer group
The dilemma:
Some friends say:
“You already completed 2 years. Why waste 2 more years restarting?”
But my current college also doesn’t offer strong placements or exposure.
I talked with EP seniors from that NIT:
- Batch size ~16–19
- Around 3–6 students get placements
- Many go for higher studies/govt exams
- Seniors said students who seriously prepare usually manage placements
- Avg package around 6–7 LPA
There’s also branch change after 1st year based on high CGPA, but it’s competitive and uncertain.
So should I:
Stay and finish my degree in 2 years
OR
Restart at a tier-2 NIT for better environment/exposure despite losing 2 extra years?
Need realistic opinions, not motivation.
NIT Agartala CSE review + college review & Reality check !!
I’m looking for a college experience that prioritizes a high-growth environment over fancy infrastructure. My goal is to build startups or join high-risk ventures to gain maximum experience rather than chasing financial stability. I’m also considering moving abroad for higher studies to scale these ventures. (i got 98.5 percentile would be getting in csab round, 3328 EWS) - This post will be more biased towards CSE not college in general.
I’d appreciate your insight on a few things:
1. Higher Education
Are professors generally supportive when it comes to providing Letters of Recommendation (LORs) for students aiming for foreign universities? How often students go for foreign?
People from this college get offcampus placements? So is % placements greater than 90 in CSE and IT including offcampus good placements) ..what is median package of both?
2. Hackathons
How frequent and competitive are they? I’m eager to participate in as many as possible. Codechef, leetcode competitions among college peers?
3. Clubs & Societies
What is the process for forming one, and how much "politics" should I expect within student organizations? Is there non-bengali prejudice (I'm from UP)?
4. Student Culture
Do people generally engage in extracurriculars and innovation, or is the focus strictly on campus placements? ... Do alumni connects between themselves and good ties with college?
5. Support for Ventures
Since I already have connections in industry and done some of coding projects (not professionally but i have working experience and i am better than avg. in python and LINUX and web dev., #more of vibe coding), I’m looking for a driven crowd. Is the mindset there geared toward building things and exploring?
6. Flexibility & Autonomy
How lenient are the attendance rules for national competitions? Also, if I wanted to independently organize tech fests or competitions using my own network, would I face much resistance from the college?
7. Campus life and infra
Also, is it safe and allowed to roam around the campus at night? I’m curious about nearby places for short trips and whether students usually go out and travel together. How’s the peer group overall and the general culture around hanging out or planning trips? I’d also like to know about the major fests/events (their names and when they usually happen).
8. Future Potential
How much is gap, we future juniors can cover to get this college new heights ... what are major problems that we as coming students community can improve and manage..
9. Expectation
What you guys (seniors) expect from us (batch of 30)?
10. Top 5 Pros and Cons
Lastly, what would you say are the top 5 pros and cons you’ve personally experienced during your time there?
11 . My personal que is what should i prefer NIT agartala CSE or iiest shibpur CSE?
NITA CHEM ENGG or IIIT Agartala CSE or DROP?
please help this poor soul... bhagwaan aapko 1 cpa dega
Placement scenario of Computational Mathematics (BTMT)
How are the placements for computational maths this year?? Heard that the branch is doing well this year in placements
i am getting production/biotech at nit agartala and chemical/civil at nit srinagar at 91%ile, female gen hs up. which one would be a better option for me?
CHEMICAL AT NITA
I have few doubts regarding the branch
What is the academic pressure in the branch (specially wrt maths.. is okish maths enough for ?)
How's the campus life ?(I don't expect much but are there fests and all?)
3.hows the placements of this branch?? Are the placements mainly core based or coding based ??
Thanks
Dear friends and mates of NITA,
What's the point of our EDUCATION, if we still throw garbage anywhere, only for an UNEDUCATED PERSON to clean up after us?✨✨
Placements Query
can anyone tell me what's the cg required for sitting in dream tier placements
also the PLACEMENT scenario of ECE branch here
like average and highest packages offered
EndSems
so 1st year's official countdown has just began any last moment suggestions for us?
&
how is the paper checking scenario for even sem (gr2)
we've got tuff shits like BEE Mech heavy phys and maths chapters
Production in NITA
I might get prod engg. here. There are a couple of things I wanna know about this college
- What is the condition of hostel ? Can we
get single rooms in later years? Is the mess food
hygienic?
- How is the overall college life ? Are the fests good
like other Nits?
- How are the professors of the department ?
How is the overall infrastructure?
- Do people here can sit in tech placments, even they are from non-tech branches?
guys hear me out first
People generally say NITA has decent placements for CSE and placements and opportunities are all I care about.
Also major thing (for me atleast), DTU SE even though for pvt companies it's equal to CSE/IT but for PSUs it's not accepted
My dad wants me join something that will keep the door for govt jobs open for me too and I won't get CS/IT in DTU
please share your honest opinions and any help would be greatly appreciated
This tweet is from of senior of CSE'24 batch (most probably) ...At the time his friends were leaving campus(1st) and when he himself was leaving the college(2nd)..
I felt that Man 💔
Nit jamshedpur mech vs nit Agartala ece ?
No such interests just looking for stable life
after the end sem exam...I will be focusing on coding. So which language should I prefer .....some say learn C++ and start dsa on C++ as C++ is harder and will built good problem solving skills whereas some say start python as there are multiple career option like ai/ml, data science etc......which language should I prefer for my coding journey..... though I am also interested in starting data science in the vacation time period..
I am an prospective student getting ece branch in nit agartala. Have some doubts regarding this college... want to have some insight regarding the placement, faculty, academic environment, peer group and overall campus life....koi tou bata dou
