Do you guys think it would be OK?

hey, I'm from Georgia the country and I'm wondering would it be OK to ask my embassy if they have any old MEXT winners who I can contact and ask them some questions because I can't find anybody on Internet or is it like a weird question to ask for peoples contacts?

About my Japanese qualification

Hello, I'm a MEXT applicant from Mongolia. Should I send my certificate of JLPT N3(I barely passed by 99points)? Some people say that people who send their JLPT scores have better chances, but others say that unless it's N2/N1, don't bother sending it.

[Research] Recommendation Letters: Is the sealed envelope/signature across the seal actually necessary?

Hi everyone,
I'm currently collecting my Recommendation Letters for the MEXT Research Scholarship. The official template says the recommender should "place the form in the envelope, seal the envelope, and sign across the seal."

Since the initial application stage in my country (Nepal) is digital (submitting scans, which I'm pretty sure it's the same for other countries as well), I’m a bit confused about the protocol:
Is the sealed envelope mandatory? If the embassy asks for a scan first, do I just scan the letter, and then have the recommender seal it? Or can I just keep the loose leaf?

For those who have passed the document screening (assuming you did pass last year or are current MEXT scholars), did you actually have to hand over unopened, signed-across-the-flap envelopes to the embassy later?

I’ve heard people say you aren't supposed to "see" the letter, but if I have to scan it myself for the digital portal, that seems impossible. How did you guys handle this?

Trying to make sure I don't get disqualified over a technicality. Thanks!

What do the the usual applications look like

I’m currently at the end of grade 10 in Canada and I have 90-93% average, also have a few sport achievements, learning japanese, planning to go to a research summer camp next summer, have around 90h of different volunteering so far, sport 10h/week, writing a kids book on basic science and planning to publish it and teach kids on it. I don’t know if I have enough activities and everything to get into mext also what they look for etc, could anyone please give advice on what stats usually get the scholarship or something.

Confusion with mext scholarship eligibility

Hello! First of all, I am from the Philippines. An incoming grade 12 student (SHS or mostly known as upper secondary school). I've been wondering if my case could make an exception:)?

An info for my school year end, my school will end and have the ceremonial on april 5-8 2027 but my final and last exam would be on march 22-23. Do you think this could qualify me enough?

I can't post pictures so I copy pasted this.

  1. I am an incoming grade 12 this school year and the possible graduation is in March 2024. Am I eligible to apply?

Those who will be able to finish 12 years of schooling on or before March 2027 can apply. In principle, applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between April 1, 2027 and April 7, 2027.

** Aspiring applicants for the Undergraduate or Specialized Training categories who will graduate after March 2027 are advised to apply in the next application process (i.e. 2028 program).

EDITED:

ADDITIONAL INFO: I already went to my nearby consulate-general of japan but they said they could not provide me an answer for the mext scholarship and I have already emailed them. I just want to post this just in case someone has the same problem and has already contacted the embassy or someone who also experienced the same problem before:)

"Black labs", need to go to lab everyday

I recently joined the master program and a lab colleague (japanese) told me that there is a rule about having to go to the lab everyday from 9am to 5pm. So I asked, what happens if I don't have anything to do at the lab? She told me that there are times where there is nothing to do and there will be people sleeping, reading or even playing videogames but we all go to the lab everyday in case someone needs help or has a question.

I started going to the lab everyday and indeed everyone goes to the lab but most of the time everyone is bored, doing something unrelated to research or just chatting. There are people who do experiments but is not like they are teaching anyone, everyone is on their own most of the time.

My supervisor hasn't talked to me about this. Not even mention it and before this colleague told me anything, I wouldn't go to the lab so he probably noticed that and still hasn't said anything. I'm the only foreign student in the lab so I don't know what other foreign students did before me.

My question is, is it mandatory to follow this rule? Are there any consequences like not graduating? Would like to hear your experiences if anyone has gone through something similar.

If i have high school final year intership, should i add it in my application for Undergraduate?

If yes then under which section? Academic transcript? Or under where? Or should I just not mention it?

For context it was a sales internship to sell healthcare equipment concerned with Cerebral palsy and Physiotherapy. A commission based internship.

My field of application is Economics so i think it feels weird to add it?

A very Technical Research Proposal

Hello guys I am an Engineer grad from India writing my Research Proposal for MEXT 2027(Masters student),

My Research Topic by its core is very technical , It is related to my Undergrad but is a specific subtopic that people follow in the PHDs and actively being worked on in Japan right now. I have selected a specific topic from the subtopics inside the field I am targetting, It is math heavy and after going through literature I have devised a mixture of equations to model my approach (all based on already done research combined together for a new direction where this approach hasnt been tested a lot), I have enough evidence through literature to believe this can be a valid approach.

Now the main problem is that I can tie this loosely and state why I am doing what and not include any mathematical modelling and explain why its important to japan so the embassy is able to understand it in layman terms , but that would read more like I want to study this field and I am interested more in this and not a full Research plan.

I can explain in layman language a bit in the starting and explain every equation or model I include but after reading on this sub I have not seen even one mention of people including technically deep and similar methodology, I have see people discuss more on the first approach keeping things a little shallow and talking more about why japan , how japan and not that deep in the literature review or the evidence from literature towards your specific approach.

Any guidance would be hugely appreciated, I am very lost

JLPT Certificate in Preliminary Form

Hello I am an applicant from India,

I have cleared JLPT N5 last attempt and wanted to include that on my Preliminary form , I dont see anywhere mentioned , but there is mention of national or international exams also there is mention of GRE / TOEFL score separately.

Do I include my JLPT or do I not at this stage , if I am supposed to do it would be very helpful if anyone could point me to the section where I am supposed to include it.

Used AI only for grammar and wording—now my research plan shows 100% AI

Hello I am an applicant of India, I wrote the entire research plan on my own, but it was in very simple (layman’s) language. That’s why I used ChatGPT to polish the language. Now, all the AI detector websites are showing it as 100% AI-generated. What should I do now?

Genuine question guys. Really confused

Ive scored 75% in 10th boards and im going to apply in 2028 to fly in 2029. But i won’t be having my 12th results at the time being. So in the guidelines it is written that your 10th marks are considered which should be 80% minimum which i don’t have. So will the letter of assurance enough? Will i be considered in the cutoff or i won’t be in the cutoff

Field of study and research plan methods

I'm from Argentina and starting my research plan, but I have a doubt about how to write the methods section. I want to study chronic pain and dementia, but I don't know what resources the universities have. I already checked most of them and none work those two variables, so I want to know how can I justify my methods section if I don't know if the centers I'm applying to work.
