Is it compulsory to write in the japanese language in past and present field of study in mext application form ? or we can simply write in english? please guide me.

Hi everyone, I’m applying for the MEXT Scholarship (Research Student/PhD) through the Embassy route in India.
I need quick guidance:
For the first stage, do I only email the application form, or do I also need to send hard copies by post?
Are transcripts/recommendation letters needed now or only after shortlisting?
Is IELTS/TOEFL mandatory, or is MOI acceptable initially?
Any tips to improve selection chances?
