Neighbor has bee hives, they enjoy the water.
First test of my little solar fountain pump seems successful. I plan to put some sponge and filter floss in the bowls to give a little extra filtration.
It’s still too cold at night for plants in my area but I’m impatient and I wanted to get a jump start on building up some beneficial bacteria. My substrate is a base of organic soil with a layer of sand over it and capped off with small aquarium pebbles.
My wood is floating still so I have it weighted down with stones. Hopefully all the hardscape will be hidden by plants. And I still want to find someone local to get medaka from. To be continued
I got my medakas today after a month of cycling my pond. 3 orange and 3 platinum white 😍
Used a dust pan to diy a waterfall.
I fear that the bigger orange medaka are bullying the smaller platinum ones, what are your thoughts on this? Seems worse after feeding so it seems they're chasing off the smaller ones to hog the food.
Tank is a planted and heated 10 gallon, I was afraid I had too many shrimp as well so I moved a handful back over to my shrimp only tank. There are 4 orange and 5 platinum.
Should I look to re-home the orange or does this appear to be regular behavior/possible breeding behavior?
Looking to buy breeding trio of red emperor medaka. Shipped.
Is ebay the only option? Tamo are ubiquitous in Japan and somehow seem entirely non existent stateside. Closest I've found are very cheap plastic shrimp nets on Amazon.
First, thanks for the help with identifying the sexes of my fish this morning. I came home from work to find one of my girls like this. What does she need from me now to be comfortable? Will she drop them on her own? How do i know if they're fertilized?
My fancy goldfish just spray them everywhere and then eat them.
A month of planning and setting up and finally got my medaka. 10 tsugumi in one of the 25gs and 10 marriage kissing in the other 25g. I'm obsessed with them .
Can anyone assist with confirming the sexes of these galaxies? I'm thinking two female and one male (left).
I have about 20 small fry that I recently moved (about 1 week ago) from one tank to the other and since the move very few of them will come eat at the surface when I feed them.
Not all of them would surface for food before, but most of them would eagerly huddle around when I came over. Now they seem disinterested.
This is my second batch of 20+ fry and last time I moved them 2-3 times before going outside permanently and I hadn't noticed a collective charge in feeding behavior like this.
The current tank just underwent a partial rescape so it's not super mature, though I did add several new plants and kept some of the older ones and the hardscape. The tank they were in was at least equally if not more mature than this one. One of the biggest differences is that there are far fewer floaters in the new one. Only new inhabitants are assassin snails, which mostly stay hidden and don't really interact with them.
Nonetheless I'm thinking they are just getting plenty to eat and aren't as focused on powdered foods? Or just getting used to the new space still? They don't seem lethargic or stressed at all. I want them to bulk up so I can get them outside before it gets too hot.
Been looking into these beauties for some time now and finally ready to start but not sure where to go. Everywhere I look is sold out.
Hi everyone☀️
I was looking for some new medaka eggs on eBay (I’m from the Netherlands), but the sellers I saw a few days ago are gone.
Does anyone know what’s going on? Or is it just coincidence?
Hi, new to medaka. I ordered a set of 8 Red Emperor Longfin medaka from Dan's Fish, and they arrived just over 2 weeks ago (17 days). During the first week, I had one male pass away, which I chalked up mostly due to shipping stress; it exhibited behaviors of lethargy and was not interested in food. However today I saw another that another just started exhibiting the same behavior. This one is either hiding near the java fern or in this pic at/or around the bottom corners of the tank. It was mostly uninterested in food when I tried using a pipette to entice it. Overall, I don't really see any obvious signs of like sickness (pineconing or ich) but maybe I don't see it? Does anyone know what might be wrong? One thing I could say is it does seem to be consistently opening and closing its mouth so maybe gill issues?
The other 6 are active and are consistently foraging, with the females producing and laying a fresh batch of eggs on the java moss just today.
Tank parameters: 15 gallon, temperature 76-78F, Ammonium: 0.25ppm, Nitrite: 0ppm, Nitrates:0-5ppm. Established 2 years back.
In terms of feed usually a pinch of bug bites/hikari micro bites, either once or twice a day.
