My girlfriend and I tried a new area in Irving, Texas today and met with AMAZING results.
I found a small caliber pistol, a seine net, rebar, bolts, nuts, lug nuts, deese nuts, a rail spike, two batteries, screws, nails, brake pads, a ball bearing, and lots of mystery items.
Started off a bit slow but it picked up !
There was 1 thing I couldn't get out of the water it looked like a massive ball of nails ! Must've been at least a foot across !
So today's highlights !
2 files, 1 flat and 1 square
Coins
3 Odd hinge looking things
Window latch
Old cast iron gutter joint for downpipe and gutter
3 lighter's
1 speaker
A wood saw (similar to 1 found not far away recently)
Old bolt, cigar tin (and strawberry flavoured luncheon meat !!) Fishing lure, an odd little heavy piece of steel to a very sharp point and other odds and ends BUT
On the last throw I hooked something big, I thought it was a small trampoline to start with but it was apparently a moon chair !
Funny thing to find in the middle of a river lol
After the awesome experience I had restoring the sledge hammer found magnet fishing, I wanted to keep going. I soaked a horseshoe, ball bearing, a strange metallic circle, and a pair of pliers in 30% vinegar for a week. After that they were off to the vice for wire brush cleaning. Overall it was a fun time. The pliers have a neat engraving on the handles. The horse seems to old in my opinion, but I'm not expert. I have no idea what the circle was but it fell apart on the back side. The ball bearing required no wire brush as the vinegar worked exceptionally well.
Can’t believe I found 820 lbs of scrap in just 4 or 5 times out, and also that it only worked out to $55!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I just do it for the experience—the cash has been an unexpected visit.
I had never cashed in a load of scrap before, and it was surprisingly chill. Borrowed a truck, but I think I’ll just use the bucket trunk of my minivan next time with whatever I can fit. I encourage anyone else to give it a try—you could even use the trunk of your car to haul it. Anyone else have any tips to make the most out of scrapping?
.
I got a big hand net. It was my best find yet. All the surrounding people were happy to get the lures and hand net.
I never thought finding garbage would be so much fun
So, for quite a while now Bondi Treasure Hunter isn't doing any vids with Wim and the rest of the crew anymore. Which is a shame, since I (and surely many other people) loved the vibe and interaction between all of them.
I watched some of the vids at Wim's YouTube channel and saw that they don't even use Bondi Magnets anymore.
Does anyone know what happened?
My Mississippi honey hole just keeps producing. This was yesterday‘s catch. Kind of cool to find that antique hammer! Maybe someone would want to restore it?
so today was a bit quiet and I expected more, it is a place I've done 6 months ago so obviously people haven't thrown stuff in again yet lol
I did have 1 heavy bit i dragged halfway across the river before the magnet came off and then spent quite a while trying to get it with no luck !
then it happened again in another spot lol
but I did get
2 umbrella's
1 long piece of fresh flat steel
vape, coins, lure, kids fishing net, security tag, some keys and a few odds and ends !
The sledge hammer I caught a few weeks back has a nice soak in 30% vinegar for two weeks. Afterwards my buddy and I spent the Sunday making it operational. I have to admit it was a lot of fun
I visited my hometown and remembered a historic bridge that I've never fished. Upon arrival we noticed the water was extremely shallow so we picked up some decent water shoes from academy and walked down below.
I found what I thought was a musket ball, but it turned out to be something else. Musket balls are made from lead or pewter, which is not magnetic.
Much of our finds had been down there for a long time. We actually had to take a hammer to almost everything featured in picture 4 to uncover what they were. (All the build up is to the left)
Other finds:
•A horseshoe
•Nails
•Rail spikes
• 2 Locks
•A set of lock keys
•A giant chain link
•Steel piping
•A cylinder.
•A tape measure
Tried magnet fishing for the first time today in Oppdal, Norway and honestly… I’m hooked already.
Pulled up a bunch of random stuff, including a big round chunk of metal that weighs around 20–30 kg (44–66 lb) 😅 No idea what it is, but definitely didn’t expect that on my first cast.
Also found what looks like an old shovel, which was pretty cool.
Used an El Dorado Bondi magnet (1600 kg / 3527 lb), which definitely did the job.
Completely exhausted now, used muscles I didn’t even know I had, but 100% worth it. Definitely going back out after a few days of recovery.
Hi! so new here, never gone fishing, but it looks fun!
I do have a few questions, however:
What is your personal end goal- what are you looking for, what do you keep? What do you do with the things you find? Do you often find things worth polishing up or fixing in some way? It seems like pretty much everything you'd find would be quite damaged. Are you able to sell scrap or something?
Not that there's anything wrong with rooting through junk for the sake of having a look at it, but I am genuinely curious what my odds would be of finding something worthwhile if I was to try it.
Thanks in advance!
well after magnet fishing for a few hours I found nothing but I did manage to lose my magnet and recovery hook as well as both ropes 😂. first, my magnet got stuck on something so I tried all the different methods of going upstream going downstream, tried using come along and tension methods after trying my grappling hook on a second rope which also got stuck on, presumably the same object. just a little further up. after an hour fight I decided I have to let the magnet go. ( water to swift and murky to risk getting in it, especially since I don't know what or why I was stuck) think I'm going to give this hobby a rest for a little bit and get back into metal detecting which seems to be a lot less riskier of losing my equipment.
