Where’d It All Come From?

Newbie magnet fisherman here. I’ve been dredging both the north and south shores near the Stone Arch Bridge. In just 4 or 5 times fishing I came up with 820 lbs of metal I scrapped!

Does anyone have any knowledge to history of the area as to why it’s so full of metal? Almost looks like they dumped leftover construction materials. Did dumping in the river used to be a thing?

First Scrap Haul

Can’t believe I found 820 lbs of scrap in just 4 or 5 times out, and also that it only worked out to $55!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I just do it for the experience—the cash has been an unexpected visit.

I had never cashed in a load of scrap before, and it was surprisingly chill. Borrowed a truck, but I think I’ll just use the bucket trunk of my minivan next time with whatever I can fit. I encourage anyone else to give it a try—you could even use the trunk of your car to haul it. Anyone else have any tips to make the most out of scrapping?

Construction dump site

My Mississippi honey hole just keeps producing. This was yesterday‘s catch. Kind of cool to find that antique hammer! Maybe someone would want to restore it?

Nice Scrap Haul

Found this in about an hour and a half of fishing on the Mississippi River. It was literally something heavy on every cast. Looks like I stumbled upon some kind of careless construction or dismantling site. Found maybe some kind of light? And a heavy 20-something foot cable that I couldn’t fit in my car.

Maybe I’ll make some scrap money out of this hobby after all!!!

MSP Area Meetup?

Not sure if this is allowed—I’m new to the sport and this board. Just picked up a 2000 lb magnet and I can’t believe all that I’m finding in the Mississippi River! Getting out in nature, getting to know the city better, and finding treasure? What more can you ask for?

Wondering if there’s anyone in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area that might want to meet up and fish together? I’m a dude in his 30’s—just looking for some like-minded magnet anglers who I can learn from or learn together. Let me know if there’s anyone interested here!
