Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction or share advice/resources.
My mom is 61 years old and works full-time at a factory making $17/hour. She’s been doing her best to stay afloat, but her rent is currently $912/month and we just found out it’s going up in July to a price she simply won’t be able to afford.
She lives alone, doesn’t have much savings, and isn’t in a position to just “make more money.” I’m really worried about her stability, especially at her age.
I’m trying to figure out:
• Would she even qualify as low-income for housing assistance?
• Are there programs for people her age who are still working but struggling?
• Where should I start looking for affordable or income-based apartments?
• Are there waitlists we should get on now before July hits?
I just want to make sure she has a safe, stable place to live without being completely overwhelmed financially. Any advice, personal experiences, or direction would mean a lot.
Thank you! :)
Just went to the Bob Evans on Hempland Rd, and there's a sign in the window saying it's permanently closed.
Can't find anything online saying when/why, other than a news article from last year, saying it might be torn down for a carcass.
Anyone know what happened?
Target and Old Navy both don’t have maternity sections, I think I heard Boscovs got rid of their maternity section. Who sells maternity clothes?
tried removing weed from flower bed to prepare for season but weed is strongly rooted (even after soil is watered and soft ) and very aggressively spreading. definitely need professional help. looking for recommendations. TIA
I’m looking to rent an apartment around the corner between the Franklin St and E Walnut St. I’m not familiar with this area at all. The place is a two-story end-unit row house. I’d be on the second floor. The first floor is currently occupied by a barber shop. Please advise me about the safety and noise level of this area. Thank you!

Two bags likely got stolen out of my car last night. No it was not locked, that’s completely my fault however there’s rarely ever any car traffic at all besides my few neighbors and in the 20+ years I’ve lived here I’ve never had any break ins at all.
Hi y'all! Checking to see what the status of cherry blossoms is in the area. I'm a photographer with a couple who'd hoped to take photos by the Tidal Basin in D.C. but missed peak bloom. Right now I'm looking for a spot that's pretty with a good collection of white or pink blooming trees. I've heard Marietta and Lancaster Central Park are good options, but I want to a get a sense of what's happening TODAY. Thanks in advance for any insights!
Just moved here to new Holland in December have yet to find a Chinese food place that doesn’t suck! They all have terrible rice like it’s microwaves or old like what the hell I’m willing to drive 30 minutes just to pick up good Chinese
Hey everyone! Wondering if anyone knows if the city will take cardboard boxes & styrofoam for curbside? We just got a bunch of huge boxes with furniture in them delivered and they were full of styrofoam.
I don’t have a neat way to package them up, but will the city take them if I set them out? The website isn’t super clear about this specifically.
I know this is a longshot, but maybe some of you have purchased a swim spa before if so, any recommendations where I can go?
I was wondering if anyone knew of any kind of sports that have prek aged teams? I'm looking to get my daughter signed up for something just to get some energy out but I haven't had any luck. Or even Gymnastics/ballet..? thank you!
Hey everyone. Looking to get some backsplash installed in our kitchen. Around 30sqft of tile. Anybody have theirs done recently? How much did you pay? Thank you!
Penn Medicine/Penn State Health/UPMC
I am looking for a new Internal Medicine PCP as well as a new Endocrinologist. Not sure what is going on with Penn Medicine lately but my PCP’s office has become a joke. I took a lot of time researching and finally found a new PCP, made an appointment only to be told days before meeting with her that she is now leaving the practice and none of the other providers are accepting new patients! I am very open to going to Penn State Health or even UPMC if the practitioner is worth it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I would prefer Internal Medicine for my PCP.
So I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a dog for a while now. I’m familiar with the shelters around here but I like to ask around if people are looking to re-home their pets- if the dog has been in someone’s family for a while they tend to know more of their personal history/quirks, whereas a shelter may be less familiar with that.
I am 31F, live on my own in a row home (less than 1000 square feet) with a small fenced in backyard. I do work full time so I would need a dog that’s okay with being home alone 8 hours a day (although I might look into getting a dog walker if need be). I’m more interested in an older dog under forty pounds (my house is tiny so I think a bigger dog might struggle long term). Preferably a dog that’s lower energy and gets along well with other dogs because my parents sometimes bring their dog over.
Do you know anyone who is looking to rehome a pet? Or do you know where I can look for someone who is trying to rehome a pet? I’m a little wary of Craig’s List, I know sometimes backyard breeders go on there to sell their dogs and I prefer not to support that.
