Times Union reporter looking for local reactions re: Kingston signs

Hi Kingston residents! I'm a reporter with the Times Union and I'm writing a story capturing the local reactions to the wayfinding signs that have been installed in Kingston. What do you think? What do you wish the city had done differently? If any Kingston residents would like to weigh in on the record, feel free to contact me at maria.silva@timesunion.com. Thank you!

Unicorn Bar Kickstarter Follow Up

Has anyone followed up with the bar or owner to see where and how the 30k was spent?

The bar had some community events claiming to take feedback on how the crowd funded money should be spent. Was the money actually spent on community decided goals like they claimed?

I heard the owner went in 3 international vacations and bought a new car this last year so it really seems like the fundraiser was just grifting on the community.

Hi! I’m going to be around Kingston/Saugerties soon for an overnight stay. Instead of sitting in my Airbnb I’d like to find a place to hang out that feels safe enough for a solo middle age (read: early 40s aging hipster) woman. A bar or late nite cafe that has a more casual atmosphere where I can drink, maybe read a book or strike up conversation with the bartender/other patrons. Thanks for any recommendations!

Pour a THC seltzer out for them. I know there are other options, but I liked the fact that the location did medical long before legalization.

Apologies for the shite photo but I blame the shite sign. Anyone know what this is about? It’s posted on the door of Front Street Tavern and looks extremely
official. (And if you can’t read it it says “Kingston Nord restaurant coming soon)

“Italian” Food

To prefix this post -
Born in the Bronx to an Italian mother who didn’t move to the US until she was 20.

Spent most of my life in Dutchess County and the Bronx.

A few years ago I had Frank Guidos for the first time. For the price, the portion was pretty good but the quality I thought was below mediocre and the sauce tasted like it came out of a plastic container. The eggplant was very greasy. I was disappointed and never had it again.

They have so many 5 star reviews and just couldn’t see it when I had it. The prices have gone up looking at the menu and they still have so many positive reviews.

Now I know Italian and American Italian cuisine are two different things.

Maybe I was spoiled with the cooking growing up. Maybe Guidos had a bad day?

Ulster has far less than Dutchess.

Just looking for others experience there or where they like to eat?

ISO: Retail Space in Midtown Kingston — Any Leads?

Hello all!

I’m currently on the hunt for a retail space in Midtown Kingston and figured I’d post here in case anyone has leads, connections, or advice.

I’ve been checking listings daily and reaching out to a few realtors, but it seems like a lot of spaces around here move through word of mouth before they ever hit Zillow or LoopNet.

Ideally looking for:
• ~900–1000 sq ft
• Midtown Kingston
• Natural light / open layout
• Long-term lease preferred

If anyone knows of landlords, upcoming vacancies, or local people I should connect with, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

Unidentified Rogue Pooper in midtown

If you recognize this dog (last seen pooping unaccompanied on prince Street) please let their owners know they have been pooping here for the last year and we are tired of cleaning up after them.

They couldn’t even align the letters correctly

Look at the “N”. It isn’t even aligned with the other letters. These signs are embarrassing. How did they even get approved?

Onteora / Kingston / Rondout School Districts

Hi! Our young family is planning a move to the area in the coming years from other parts of NJ/NY. We are trying to get a sense for school options. Would love to hear from people that have their kids in nearby school districts!

Dyke Country Comedy Tour!

Hiiii, I’m Kate! I’m a Brooklyn comic hitting the road with my good pal Lee Robinson to do some gay comedy in the Northeast. Our first stop is Kingston on 5/21. Would love to see you at Unicorn Bar if watching two dykes do some very silly standup sounds fun to you! And there’s an open mic after the show so we can all do standup and become best friends and live happily ever after 🥹❤️ See you there!

Missing Claddagh Ring

During a lovely recent visit to Kingston, I realized while walking around the Fair Street/Main Street area that my beloved Claddagh ring had gone missing off my hand. I retraced my steps and left my number with the stores I visited in case it turned up, but posting here as a last resort! It is of no monetary value but great sentimental value to me and I would gladly pay for its return.

Picture below of a similar ring (mine had a spiral ring sizer on it when I lost it) - if you saw it, I would greatly appreciate a comment!

Our house in Ulster Park has brush and saplings growing on a somewhat steep slope. I welcome recommendations for someone who could come out and clear this part of my yard.

Cinco de Mayo Specials?

Hi All! Looking to get some good Mexican food to celebrate Cinco De Mayo today. Ideally looking for some lunch specials I could take advantage of right now.

Let me know your favorite Mexican spot! Definitely eyeing something of the bargain variety.

Anyone have recommendations? Do any of the local Mexican Restaurants have any good Taco Tuesday specials?

Thanks in advace!

EDIT: UPDATE - We went with Mexico Lindo. They had a dedicated Cinco De Mayo menu. Eating an Al Pastor burrito right now, freaking delicious.
