I've been using koreader for quite a while now and there are some things in koreader missing from the kindle stock app that I really like so much). Here's the list of the koreader features I find very useful
So far these are the 5 things I love so much about koreader. What features do you use the most?
Zen UI is built around the philosophy that less is more. Every feature either removes clutter or adds clear, focused value. The result is a faster, cleaner reading experience that stays out of your way.
I took what I think are the best features from Kindle, Kobo, KOReader, and various plugins/patches and combined them into a single intuitive interface with an emphasis on simplicity, the little details, and performance. My goal is to replace all the custom plugins and patches with one streamlined setup.
I am a Senior Software Engineer by trade and built this as a passion project for myself and my family and I figured since it solves a lot of problems for us, this community might appreciate it as well.
This project is and will always be free and open-source under the GPL-3.0 License
What is included
Quick Settings panel — swipe down from anywhere in the file browser to get a tidy overlay with brightness, warmth, WiFi, night mode, sleep, and rotation controls. No digging through menus.
Library overhaul — clean mosaic and list views that maximize your cover art. I try to let your book covers take all the space possible. Folder thumbnails with gallery covers, configurable items per page, landscape/portrait layout, and a streamlined tap-and-hold context menu for quick access to book details, full-screen covers, read status etc.
Bottom navigation bar — a tab bar at the bottom of the library with configurable tabs (Library, Manga, Favorites, Authors, History, Collections, and more). Optional labels, custom icons, sortable layout.
Automated lighting schedules — three independent schedules replace KOReader's single auto night mode. Set separate schedules for Night Mode, Brightness, and Warmth. They work independently or together, giving you precise control over your lighting throughout the day.
Reader improvements — a Kindle-style page browser for scrubbing pages, searching, and adjusting font size. Margin guard prevents accidental taps when holding the device by the edge. Reader progress bar presets — pick from a handful of pre-designed styles or save your own.
Custom status bars — minimal bars in both the reader and library. Show only what you want: time, battery, disk space, custom text.
Zen Mode — strips KOReader down to its bare essentials. Hides all default menus, leaving one single unified Zen UI settings tab.
Lockdown Mode — a distraction-free sandbox for very young/very old readers or anyone who wants reading-only focus. Restricts settings access, optionally magnifies the UI, keeps everything simple.
OPDS theming — the OPDS browser now mirrors your library display settings. Mosaic, grid, or list view, rounded covers, and default-catalog quick access from the Quick Settings panel.
Unified settings page — everything in one place, grouped by feature. Toggle individual features independently. Update directly from within KOReader — no USB required.
Performance
Patches are injected strategically and only loaded when needed, I focused a lot of energy on making sure Zen UI is performant across all tasks. On libraries with thousands of books, there's no measurable drop in speed, responsiveness, or battery life.

This plugin is designed to be standalone so it is not compatible with Simple UI, Project Title etc. Some plugins/patches may work with Zen UI but most should be disabled while Zen UI is active.
P.S. Zen UI has been certified by the non-techy fiancé/wife gauntlet of approval (which has an arduous certification process)

Apparently this is not working on Boox devices yet. A fix will be coming soon for you. Tested on Kindle and Kobo devices.
I really thought that finally we had the jailbreak for the 5.18.6 but I guess this is a sign that we are close to get one.
Hey guys, I never had a Kindle before and was looking to get one. I was looking to get the Colorsoft since I'd be able to read manga in color if I wanted to. But I obviously want to jailbreak it, but I don't know where to start. Any recommendations, or am I better off getting a different Kindle? Are any other e-readers any different from Kindle, or are they better with not deleting your library and you own your books?
I use an RF on my jailbroken kindle, and I keep coming across BT clicker/pageturners and wonder if that would work?
example of clickers/bluetooth page turners I keep seeing
Any advice would be appreciated!
Hi everyone! I am fairly new to koreader, only jailbroke my kindle 12th gen a day ago.
Have a couple of questions (have tried searching but still lost...lol):
Can someone explain gestures to me in simple terms/signpost me to a video?
I have a large number of books I have already read, need to change their status on KOReader. All my books are on Calibre, but cannot seem to figure out how to sync the Read status.
I get an error when I try to use the patch "2-series-badge-numbered". Every other patch I have works fine. Wondering why I am doing wrong.
Is it because I also have "2-percent-badge" patch?
Thank you!
PS: I don't have ProjectTitle, tried installing it a couple of times yesterday, but kept crashing and uninstalling KOReader when I attempted to added patches.
I’ve attempted to jailbreak my kindle. Ive installed winter break and had it show up on store (tho it no longer does). I’ve installed kual to my mypackages section and also attempted to install it to the main files. At my wits end hoping someone can help me please. Also since starting the process I’ve had no option to update as it’s on the latest update for this model
Is there a way to make reading Libby loans on a jailbroken K4 without Amazon registry?
Those of you who follow the tech world (a fair part on this subreddit) might have heard that Anthropic released a model called Mythos, a very powerful vunrelability finding AI. Is Amazon only using it on AWS and other mission critical systems, or could they be using it on Kindle OS?
The kindlemodding website updated their statement to Firmwares 5.19 and onwards have no current Kindle Jailbreaks!
Does this means the above mentioned model has any jailbreak available?
I got a kindle as a gift, however I can’t get it to register to my Amazon account. I contacted Amazon and they informed me that my device is blocked and I am not able to use it, the only thing I can do is return it. Is there anything I can do to make it usable? I really would love to be able to use this
Hello, I’d like to know if jailbreaking a Kindle makes it slower or drains the battery faster. More importantly, is it safe, or could it make the device vulnerable to hacking?
So I just bought a secondhand Paperwhite 10th Gen from my local marketplace. They said it's a no ads version, and it's seemingly true since I can find the Show All Ads (or something) option in the menu. I've checked my devices part in my Amazon account, and there's this "Remove Offer" button.
Is it possible to jailbreak it using AdBreak? I've done a factory reset too, and it atill doesn't show ads. What should I do?
I honestly have no use other than having to carry one less cable but is it possible to switch the charging ports?
It is Jailbroken
Point me in the right direction for where to start. I didn’t have it connected to my Amazon account and haven’t done anything with it yet.
I have a blacklisted PW and I did the filling kindle storage to prevent from updating. Then I installed the nosebleed jailbreak. I got to the pressing the “L on the forehead” but it didn’t do anything. I’m trying to find out what I did wrong but I can’t seem to figure it out. 😩
I have a Kindle 2 that is giving an unknown usb device message. I have tried using mutliple devices, restarting, resetting, updating, and skull bashing but nothing seems capable in resurrecting this device. Am I wasting my time on trying to jailbreak outdated tech, or is there something simple I am missing?
