Dog chewed on Kindle, worth fixing?

My dog was fascinated with the kindle case and decided to pry the case off to eat it. Unfortunately he chewed the corner and now it's sharp and a bit stabby. Everything still works, I just can't put a case on it and I grab it wrong all the time and scratch myself. Kind of a long shot but does anyone know if it's fixable? or even worth it?

Am I paranoid or is amazon not lettiing us own our books a real problem ?

so a few days ago I was looking for old book that I bought a long time ago and I noticed that the cover is different it is now a movie cover.

and I was very confused because I got it way before the movie came out.

so I started to do some digging and found out that amazon can still access and change my books because I am "renting" or more accurate I have license to access their books. I dont actually own any of my digital books.

Is it something to be concernd about ?

is there a solution to have my copies in my computer in case anything happens ?

Can it get any better?

It’s a rainy and gloomy Saturday, I’m reading my kindle, and The Masters is playing in the background!

Pros/Cons of Newest Model

Hi! I’m looking to purchase the Kindle 16GB. What are some pros/cons to this model? Do you find that you use it regularly?

ETA: I love reading and am hoping to get into it again. I’m hoping that the Kindle will make it easier than traveling with books.

Pleasantly Surprised by my Recent Upgrade

I’ve been using Kindle devices for years - had a Kindle “Keyboard” WiFi (Gen3; 2010 - dropped it) followed by a Paperwhite WiFi (Gen6; 2013 - still in the household) and then an Oasis 32Gb WiFi + Mobile (Gen10, 2019 - still in the household).

The Oasis was meant to be the “end game” device and for me it was perfect; what it lacked in battery life it more than made up for in terms ergonomics and general usability, and I appreciated having newspapers and journals delivered to my device via the mobile network irrespective of where I was.

I was disappointed when newspapers and journals stopped being available via Kindle; it diminished the value of the mobile connectivity.

More disappointment followed when ComiXology was merged with the Kindle library; I enjoyed reading graphic novels but the Oasis wasn’t really up to it in the end and I didn’t want to take all of my reading onto a distracting device like an iPad just so that I could continue to have a smooth experience (never mind colour).

Enter the ColorSoft (Gen12, 2024 - Signature Edition). It is the only Kindle I haven’t bought shortly after release and the hesitation was mostly to do with the loss of mobile connectivity and the loss of physical buttons.

A few weeks in and I can say that the ergonomics are great and surprisingly I do not miss the physical buttons. If I need connectivity on the go I use my phone’s hotspot. And the colour is great! I haven’t experienced any yellow banding - the only downside has been transferring my now massive library across; took a few days.

If you’re like me and hesitant about losing the buttons and feel of the Oasis (or even the mobile connectivity if you went for that model), if colour and graphic novels matter I think the ColorSoft is worth a shot.

Ruining our Kindle fun

Dear Customer,

Thank you for being a longtime Kindle customer. We're glad our devices have served you well for as long as they have. Starting May 20, 2026 — 14 to 18 years after their initial launches — we are discontinuing support for Kindle devices released in 2012 or earlier. Here's what this means for you:

* You can continue to read books already downloaded on these devices, but you will not be able to purchase, borrow, or download additional books on them after that date.

* If you deregister or factory reset these devices, you will not be able to re-register or use these devices in any way.

Affected devices include Kindle 1st and 2nd Generation, Kindle DX and DX Graphite, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 4, Kindle Touch, Kindle 5, and Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation I am very upset that Amazon is doing this to all of us with older Kindles I was hoping if anyone knew whether or not you could still download a book if you did it directly from your device content instead of through your Kindle?…that was my only hope

Replacing 1st generation Paperwhite from 2012- go with Paperwhite again?

I’m part of the unfortunate group that received an email about our older generation Kindles no longer being supported. My Paperwhite still works amazingly even with very regular use.

I love the Paperwhite feature as I often read it at night so my husband can sleep without a light on, as well as take it on occasional vacations and read outdoors. I also like that’s it’s relatively small.

As I’m exploring my options, I’m wondering how technology has advanced and if the basic kindle would meet my needs, or if the Paperwhite would be the way to go again. It’s a significant price difference!

KOReader install fails on Kindle 4 NT running 4.1.4

I've spent over 12 hours trying to get to the point of being able to install KOReader using the fantastic instructions by u/SpartanHeavy on the archived thread, below. I'm sure that there will be an uptick in posts like this due to the recent, greedy Amazon announcement. https://www.reddit.com/r/kindle/comments/1ipko3u/comment/mcw6m8t/?share_id=BJqC42yLs338B9xPzDGRP&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

Every instruction was successful until the final one to use KUAL to install KOReader. This is the error I get when I select KUAL in my reading list: "An error occurred: Main class instantiation threw a RuntimeException. Please contact the developer."

Kindle Basic Charging

Hi everyone! I got my Kindle Basic yesterday, and the battery was 58% when I first turned it on. Then I set it up, left it in sleep mode, and went out. When I came back in the evening, I sent 15 books to it in two parts and played around for a few minutes to get myself familiar with it. After I was finished, I put it on airplane mode and put it to sleep. Now the battery is 49%. Is that normal? I heard that the battery drains more quickly when you upload books, but then it returns to normal. Since I literally have no idea how it should be, I just wanted to ask you.

Thanks! xx

Soo about that email.... (Gonna cry in a corner)

So , I bought mine in 2025 and I haven't used it that much but now that Amazon is discontinuing their services for older kindles, I'm not sure what to do. I really liked the "sending books via email" but it's not gonna happen anymore. Honestly, I don't know what to do. it's not like I can transfer books from my PC every time when I want to read a book. It's also inconvenient imo. And you can't even sign into older kindle devices once you log out !!

Amazon is nuts for this!! Why making an already functing device useless? Literally thinking about jailbreaking but I don't know how 🫩

Kindle Scribe for $50 but can’t login - worth it for jailbreak or is it a brick?

found someone selling a Kindle Scribe for $50 "For Parts". It’s basically brand new and looks totally fine, but they said it won’t let them log into an Amazon account. Supposedly no account works.

I’m trying to figure out if this is worth messing with or not.

If I picked it up, would jailbreaking actually make it usable in a normal way? or is it pretty limited without being able to sign in?

Also, does this usually mean the device is blocked/blacklisted, or could it be something fixable?

At $50 I’m tempted to just offer $30 and see if they take it, but I don’t want to end up with something I can’t really use.

Would appreciate any input from people who’ve dealt with this before.

I dont think its stolen because they have the original package as well fwiw

Kindle no longer automatically highlightes stuff

Since the latest update (I think) on the kindle coloursoft, when I go to highlight a word with a colour, I have to manually press the colour, when before the update it would do it automatically when i pressed "highlight", with the colour I last chose. I really haven't been liking kindle's latest updates.

Kindle discontinuing older devices?

I just heard that Kindle is discontinuing support for devices from 2012 and earlier.

How many of you are affected by this? My Kindle Paperwhite from 2012 still works great, so this caught me off guard. I guess upgrading isn’t the worst thing, but I definitely wasn’t expecting it!

Is it possible to download these books as .epubs on my computer? They are currently on my Kindle.

I ask because although I prefer my Kindle for reading, I sometimes like to take notes and find my laptop easier for this.
