My husband found this wild guy in an empty house he was cleaning out (he’s a realtor) and I begged him to bring him home so he did. He’s soooo sweet. I’m so excited 😍 he will be my 3rd jumper, but my first one from the wild.
I have one already that's a full grown female, and this new one is about half the size. any ideas? also, is it possible they're pregnant this young?
location: Western Pennsylvania
Here’s the video I promised from my previous post, where I shared about the encounter I had today with this little guy, while gardening this morning. Featuring cameo appearance by my dog.
This is Hugo. Hugo moved onto the great hammock in the sky this morning.
He was a birthday present back in February 2025, at which point he was already fully mature. We figure he had to be pushing 20-22 months at the end, which I understand to be quite a long life for a male bold jumper.
The loss is sad. That said, Hugo opened our eyes to how incredible these little creatures are, and I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for the time we had with him. Within my family, he cultivated more of an appreciation and respect for not just jumping spiders, but the creepy crawly world as a a whole. The curiosity and personality these little guys and gals display is stunning, and while this one will be greatly missed, I’m just happy to have been able to share space with such an amazing little spider.
Stay Gold, Hugo!
They've just had breakfast (Lima, Peru).
Was working on a web embroidery project and the inspector came.
A local magazine asked for photos of “unusual pets” on Facebook and I commented one of Claudio. They later reached out and asked if he could be included in the issue. I’m a proud spider Mom. 🥰
i just witnessed something straight out of a telenovela today omg
so i was out looking for jumpers, and i found this little female h. ophrys. lets name her patricia. i was photographing her when i noticed two other females- but those two are irrelevant to the plot so they shall remain unnamed.
i noticed patricia was being stalked by a male- lets call him herbert. she seemed to notice but pretended not to care. so, she started hunting down this earwig, and it kept retaliating and the fight was pretty intense but she was persistent. anyways herb, he decided now was a great time to show off his moves and he started following her around and waving his arms about. she of course, grew tired of this and finally chased him down. with herb out of the way, she continued the hunt.
herb was pretty distraught, but he was determined. he admired her from a distance while she caught the earwig. and learning from his mistakes, he finally waited until she didnt have to deal with it anymore. so with patricias face stuffed with earwig, he approached her, dancing. patricia was unimpressed and kept turning away, hoping he’d get the hint.
however herbert kept following her. he knew she couldnt chase him down this time so she was forced to watch.
but- another male enters the scene. his name is mark.
mark is also looking for females. he wants herbert out of the way. so mark runs at him and they fight. it was a violent display, arms flailing, fangs flashing, and it lasted a whopping ten seconds. herbert had won! mark ran off, defeated.
back to seducing the girl. he had to have her. patricia was practically rolling her eyes at him. but this is when i had to leave, so
to be continued on our next episode…
(i would include more videos but i cant, so heres the little guy getting rejected 💔)
My spider won’t leave the bottom of her cage, her legs are curling up but she’s still alive, her abdomen looks kinda wrinkly, she wouldn’t eat past 3 days, I gave her sugar water, is there anything else I can do??
my normally very shy jumper decided to be sociable and we had a little photoshoot!
She’s absolutely beautiful 😍
Tiny little guy I found at work in early December. All he eats is bugs I find and flys that I catch in a jar for him.
He's grown up so big!
Threw some wild bird seed in the substrate in his cage and it worked pretty well.
Very weird question I know. I have a shrimp tank that has a scud problem and I just pull them out and cull them when I see them. Would I theoretically be able to feed a scud to my spider? There is nothing in the tank that could hurt the spider (chemical-wise, shrimps is bugs). Just a question- Won’t be feeding unless I can get a solid answer that it’s good!
She's not even arrived 24 hours ago and I love her! Took this picture on my Macro lens and it looks very badass in my opinion. She seems to love the leaves at the top I stuck with my Hot Glue Gun and even made a leaf like actual Jumpers would make in the wild. She's extremely cute and I would love to see how orange she becomes later in her life as she's an i5-i6 Soroa Phidippus Regius!!
Im easily startled by spiders, and insects, so when I saw this fella I took him out. but in a video i recorded she seemed to try to climb my window back, did I fuck her over? i have 2 cats so I wouldn't like her to be eaten either. pic of him looking at the camera, is it normal for them to look at you or the camera?
