IIIT Nagpur students are currently protesting against the conditions in the off-campus hostels managed by Dia Hospitality, and honestly, this is a much bigger issue than just one college.

Students are paying fees to study at an institute of national importance, yet they’re being forced to live in conditions where:

  • Washrooms are rarely cleaned
  • Food and drinking water quality is terrible
  • Maintenance complaints are ignored for days
  • Students face daily travel and safety issues because of off-campus accommodation

What makes it worse is that students have reportedly been raising these concerns repeatedly, but the management response has been silence, delays, or complete negligence.

There are also growing concerns among students about possible corruption and influence. Many students believe the hostel management has connections with the administration, which is why these issues continue despite repeated complaints. Whether true or not, the lack of accountability and action has created deep frustration among students.

Last year, even the transport bus used for students reportedly met with an accident. Thankfully no one was seriously injured, but it raised serious concerns about student safety and how casually these problems are being handled.

This is the reality of corruption and accountability failure in India. On paper, institutions grow, budgets are sanctioned, projects are announced — but students still struggle for basic living conditions. The system keeps running because students are expected to “adjust”.

The saddest part is that this is happening during end-sem exams, when students should be focused on academics instead of fighting for clean washrooms, safe accommodation, edible food, and basic safety.

Students aren’t asking for luxury. They’re asking for dignity.

Authorities need to take responsibility instead of outsourcing student welfare to careless private hostel managements with zero accountability.

Hope the administration listens before things get even worse.

97.6%ile S1 -> 94.5%ile S2. Dealt with family grief & bad distractions. Need advice on IIIT Nagpur CSE vs VNIT Nagpur Chemical for a Partial Drop!

Hey seniors,

I’m in a really tough spot mentally right now and could use some brutal honesty and guidance regarding college selection and partial drops.

My Story & Context:

To be completely honest, for the past two years, I haven't been able to give my actual 100% to JEE. My family went through a lot of personal tragedies, including a few deaths, which took a massive emotional toll on me. Because of all that, I was barely holding it together, but I somehow managed to secure a 97.6%ile in JEE Main Session 1.

I was feeling decent about it, but then I messed up big time. I got surrounded by a peer group that wasn't serious about JEE at all. Because I was already emotionally exhausted, I let myself get completely influenced by them—started wasting my days watching movies, binging anime, and mindlessly scrolling. Because of this distraction, my Session 2 score dropped to around 94-94.5%ile.

This completely demotivated me, and I ended up stopping my prep for JEE Advanced altogether. Now that the dust has settled, the regret is hitting me incredibly hard.

The Goal:

Because I couldn't give my true 100% over the last two years due to family circumstances, I have this burning desire to take a partial drop and prepare seriously for JEE Advanced 2027. I want to give it the honest, undistracted shot that I couldn't give it this time.

The Dilemma:

Based on previous year cutoffs, my two main options are:

VNIT Nagpur (Chemical Engineering)

IIIT Nagpur (CSE) (I am clearing the cutoffs for all branches here).

My Questions for Seniors (Especially IIITN/VNIT folks):

VNIT Chemical vs IIIT Nagpur CSE for a partial drop? If my ultimate goal is cracking Advanced next year, should I take Chemical at VNIT just for the free time and relatively lighter workload, or is IIITN CSE manageable?

How hectic is the IIITN curriculum? I know IIITs generally have a heavy workload. Will I realistically get enough time to grind for JEE Advanced 2027 if I take CSE there?

Attendance Policy: How strict is the attendance at both colleges? Is there any leniency, or is the 75% rule strictly enforced?

Vacations and Holidays: What does the holiday schedule look like? How long are the semester breaks, and when do they usually happen? (I need to plan my heavy prep phases around these).

Any advice, reality checks, or personal experiences with partial drops would be massively appreciated. Thank you!

A tragic incident occurred at IIIT Nagpur early this morning around 4 AM. A 2nd year CSH student reportedly jumped from a hostel building and has unfortunately passed away.

This is extremely heartbreaking news for the entire campus community. There isn’t much clarity yet on what led to this incident. If anyone has verified updates, please share responsibly and avoid speculation.

Condolences to the student’s family, friends, and everyone affected.

Also, just a reminder — if anyone is struggling, please don’t keep it to yourself. Reach out to friends, family, or seek professional help. You’re not alone.

Title lift mein band hai.. I was just walking around the floor when I noticed......... (Read more)

I was just walking around the floor when I noticed this peak illeteracy of any one of the first years!

Why? I mean why? Do you want to create such an issue for the people living in the hostel!

Both lifts completely blocked makes it uneasy for many people to commute through the floors..

Whosoever did it.. Please stop this!

Clear Abuse of Power by Ex-Warden and ECE HOD - Dr. Mard Bano (Harsh Goud)

Context - students were protesting against the quality of mess food. First of all he told not to make any videos. warden was claiming that he is not responsible for it saying things like , "me hostel ka hu nahi "(even though he was the warden). He said that "agar 7 din me mess ke log change nahi hue to wardenship chod dunga" and students were requesting an official statement to mail or either sign a paper but then he immediately threatened someone who was recording telling ki HOD hu aur bahut kuch hu bahut power hai mere pas (obviously indicating that he can alter their grades or even jeopardizing their career ) and he has done this multiple times

Genuine question for juniors regarding the hostel situation at IIIT Nagpur:

Would you prefer the current system where hostel allocation depends on who pays fees first — or a structured system like IIIT Lucknow where all first years stay outside but second year onward students get hostel accommodation?

Right now the current system is honestly becoming a 10-second competition. The hostel gets filled almost immediately after payment opens, and students are forced to sit with laptops/cards/UPI ready just to secure a room. Even then, there is no guarantee.

Under the current model, it is genuinely possible that a student may not get hostel in 1st year, 2nd year, or even 3rd year depending on timing and seat availability. That creates uncertainty every single year instead of stability.

At least in a structured model:

  • everyone knows the policy beforehand
  • students can plan PG/flats in advance
  • seniors get stability during internships/projects/placement prep
  • allocation stops depending on internet speed and payment timing

Some people argue that first years staying outside would reduce senior-junior interaction. But realistically, most interaction already happens through clubs, hackathons, projects, classes, sports, coding culture, and events — not just because students stay in the same building.

Also, after the recent protests, new hostel construction is expected to start within the next 6 months or possibly even earlier. So this would not be a permanent situation anyway. The goal is simply to create a more stable and fair system until infrastructure catches up.

Wanted honest opinions from juniors on which system seems more practical and fair long-term.
