Golden Pony closing

Saw they posted that they will be closing in June. What does the music scene in Harrisonburg need to survive??

Where to get veggie plants?

Obviously I can buy just about anything at local nurseries, Lowes/Home Depot/Costco, some local grocery stores, etc. but i’m curious if anyone is aware of a farm or vendor who sells at a lower price point that what I could find at a “store.”
I am starting a veggie garden and trying to NOT join the millions of us who invest $800 into a garden and harvest 17 tomatoes, 46 beans, and 3 peppers.
TIA!

Quiet Place to work

Hi there… Looking for a quiet place where I can work in Harrisonburg and maybe even take a call/do a zoom. Thinking of low-key coffee shops were me talking to my computer wouldn't be terrible. Any ideas?

It’s that time of year, move out for college students

Every year, thousands of student sleeve behind countless valuable perfect condition goods like TVs, microwaves and sofas in massive dumpsters.

For those in the know, I’m curious as to where the best spots are to salvage these goods?

I’d like to donate even use these goods. Because waste is not good for society.

things to do in town to keep busy

hey y’all I (24,F) just went through a breakup and desperately need things to do to fill up my free time so I don’t think about the breakup. I work 9-5 M-F so if you’ve got any recommendations for anything after 5 on those days or during the weekends, please share them.

I’m looking for any and all recommendations but here’s a little bit of what I like to get you started: listening to music, singing, theatre/acting/film, photography, movies & tv, art (more of an appreciator than a creator though), volunteering, social justice, food, getting to know people, etc. i’m a beginner at damn near everything but i love to learn!!

I’m also black, multicultural & queer so if there are any black and/or poc queer folk reading this who want to be friends and/or have recommendations for orgs that could be right for me, that would be awesome!!

Thanks y’all. I really need to get my mind off of this breakup. I would go to the gym but my physical health is not great rn and I need to get that together before working out 😪

Elk Hill

Looking for any experience from parents who have their kiddos enrolled at Elk Hill new Hburg location. I am getting very mixed feedback on the experiences at our assigned middle school (which is making me very nervous). Both children are on the spectrum with the youngest being non-verbal (partial).

edit: y'all of course speeding is wrong and the ticket is deserved, that isn't the question.

original: My sister was driving a car that's in my name and got snapped by the camera. She's not likely to pay the ticket on time. I see there's a form that I can sign and get notarized saying I wasn't the one driving. I assume they then send a ticket to the person I told them was driving, but then does she have to do a notarized signature accepting it? Cause she's less likely to do that than just pay the ticket.

Of course the easiest thing for me is pay it and expect her to pay me back, but tbh I'm tired of covering for her not acting like an adult.

Hi y'all,

I'm trying to write a book that takes place in the area, and this is my question: what are the shittiest apartments in Harrisonburg? Like, seedy, sketchy, cheap, depressing. Maybe not quite Rockingham Motel level, but still poorly kept and sketchy AF.

Hope y'all have fun with this prompt. Thanks.

Hey Guys! Our town is pretty much ruled by Jam bands, Americana, and country music in general- with only four legitimate metal shows for national touring bands probably a year we really wanted to push our album release show! There’s metal for all types of fans, including metalcore, sludge, doom, old-school rock ‘n’ roll, type, metal, and everything between. Definitely check out many of these bands on spotify and come on out!

Also you can’t beat 15$ tickets- it’s all ages so bring kiddos and the whole darn family I wanna grandma in the pit!

Best shawarma for first time experience?

I see that there are several places in town that serve shawarma. I'm a big fan of gyros (I understand that they're similar yet not the same thing) and have been wanting to try shawarma for the longest time. Can I please get some recommendations for the best place for a newbie like me to try? I would prefer a restaurant that I can sit down in and not a "take-out only" place. Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: I went to Pasha and had the chicken shawarma and it was great! Looking forward to trying out Xenia and Babylon next. Thanks soo much for the suggestions!😊

Pasha Rest & Cafe has been one of our favorites places to go for a bit, until our most recent visit where we were over charged and scammed.

We recently went in there with a larger group, as we usually do. And when we finally got the owner to come over to us, we asked for water. He informed us that their drink machine was down and asked if we were okay with bottled water instead. We obliged and had no issues with that.

So we ordered food and a few of our freinds got sodas. With our food being spicy we drank a decent bit. As it turns out, the owner decided to charge us for each and every bottle of water and soda at full price, without ever mentioning that it wasn't just a substitute for the drink machine being down. For reference, each individual bottle of soda was $4.

Since I paid for the whole meal, I didn't keep track of the exact total and just paid the total when I got to check out and tipped well. It wasn't until reviewing the receipt later that I noticed what he had done. When I called and brought it up, he laughed on the phone that I would care about something so insignificant and dismissed that it was dishonest.

I don't think I'm planning on doing a credit card charge back, since it was a dishonest charge, but I'm dissapointed in how I was treated as a regular customer somewhere and never plan on returning. Beware of getting scammed or dishonest business practices if you decide to give them your business.

I hate to be that person but I’m looking for things to do up to an hour around Harrisonburg over the holiday weekend. My husband really wants to visit his first Buc-ees (I know, judge me harshly if you want) but I want to make it a well rounded weekend. What are the best civil war battlefields? Best museums? Any conservatories or nature exhibits? Farmers markets? It seems there’s alot of hiking stuff to do but we’re not really into that stuff (I’m a klutz on uneven surfaces). I’ve been trying to do research but not finding things as easily as I usually do when we do road trips.

Thanks in advance!
