I hate to be that person but I’m looking for things to do up to an hour around Harrisonburg over the holiday weekend. My husband really wants to visit his first Buc-ees (I know, judge me harshly if you want) but I want to make it a well rounded weekend. What are the best civil war battlefields? Best museums? Any conservatories or nature exhibits? Farmers markets? It seems there’s alot of hiking stuff to do but we’re not really into that stuff (I’m a klutz on uneven surfaces). I’ve been trying to do research but not finding things as easily as I usually do when we do road trips.

Thanks in advance!

I have never been one who wants a huge audience (probably a product of a botched middle school talent show performance). I’ve purposely chosen career paths that serve as support and more in the background.

My current manager loves to brag about her team. She tells us all the time how she brought us up in leadership meetings and board meetings and I feel like us as a team aren’t into it (all of us except 1 are introverts). She wants to do department open houses and fairs…and no one shows enthusiasm for them.

But here’s where this affected me directly. We’re doing this big unveiling and she wants me to be the one giving a tour to the attendees. I suffer from social anxiety (diagnosed general anxiety), which she knows of. We also aren’t part of the Public Relations department, so why would I be the one going out there in a high media event? I have no media training and am known to say off the wall stuff. Apparently she’s the one that suggested me to the organizer (why? I don’t know), despite the fact that I was only brought into the project at the tail end for some logistics and don’t know the ins and outs at all. I was able to talk to the organizer about my anxiety and how this would be a bad idea and she was also surprised I would be mentioned. She’s going in another direction but I’m still pissed about the situation. I’m trying to stay as incognito as possible, why does she keep insisting everyone knows who we are? By the way, at my prior job, no one knew who we were and I like it that way.
