is there a way to make all *new* characters (text) a certain color?

so lots of teachers will assign things through Google Docs that require the student to answer questions throughout the document, and they often request that we type our answers in a different font color than the rest of the document. usually, they don't change the color of the answer fields so it ends up being a pain in the ass to have to change the font color of the answer every single time -- is there any methods for making every new character typed a certain font color? google doesn't return anything useful and it seems somewhat impossible but im holding out hope

Pasting Text into GDocs is removing all formatting by default

I am a screenwriter - and one of my current projects requires that I submit each screenplay as a Google Doc.

If you are familiar with screenplays, there is a LOT of formatting involved, which a screenwriting software takes care of. Writerduet, my preferred software, is also helpful enough to export said screenplay as a .docx file.

But here, my troubles begin:

  1. When I export the screenplay as a DOCX or an RTF file, open that Document, Select All, and copy-paste to GDocs - it pastes the entire shebang in Arial, even when I haven't used Shift to "paste without formatting". Is there a way to use 'source' formatting here?

  2. When I copy-paste something directly from the software's tab to the Docs tab - it ignores all of the auto-capitalisation used in that software and takes the letters as I must have manually typed them, and my screenplay looks like a mess of cases.

  3. When I upload a Word Doc directly onto Google Drive - it turns some of the Scene Headings and Character names into "Small Caps" - the first letter is large, while the rest are smaller, while still being capital. The font size appears to be the same.

What can I do to simply carry forth formatting from a Word or RTF file into GDocs?

Deleted Files Keep Coming Back, Why?

Every time I delete a document, it seems to disappear for a moment , but then when I come back to my files it's right there again like nothing happened. It's really frustrating.

I don't want these documents on my devices at all. But apparently just hitting delete isn't actually removing them , it looks like they're still sitting somewhere taking up storage space and cluttering up my documents list.

Has anyone dealt with this? How do you completely delete a file so it's actually gone for good? Is it syncing from the cloud somewhere and restoring itself? Is there an "empty trash" step I'm missing? Do I need to go into a specific app or folder to remove it permanently?

Any help would be appreciated , my docs are getting really overcrowded with files I've already "deleted" multiple times.

Word count vanished?

Normally when I hit "word count" from the menu I get the familiar box in the center of the screen showing how many words the doc has. Today, however, nothing happens when I click on word count. I tried this on multiple docs in my library and restarted the computer, the box still doesn't show up. Any ideas?

Why can't I download one document as a pdf to MY device, but-

-another document downloaded just fine?!

Apologies ahead of time, I'm pissed.

I just want to download my resume so I can send it in an email for a job application.

Except every time I tried to download it as a PDF, it would only ever let me do it through drive.

I'm like, okay, fine, I understand Google wants to do everything through their stupid cloud service, except... my brothers resume, when I went to do the exact same thing, downloads just fine?!

So clearly its possible. Somehow. Someway. I can just get it on my device. But not my resume specifically. Ohhh no.

I try to Google an answer but no matter what I type I can't find the answer to my question. In fact, the ai answer specifically says that it's not possible to download it directly to my device.

But it literally let me. With my brothers resume. But not mine.

Every day my hatred of this wretched corporation grows. Hate. Hate.

Can’t delete a blank page after an image

So I’m working on my resume and because my references are a little weak I thought I could include some Google reviews that spoke about me to help bolster my resume up. But there’s now a whole empty page underneath the review images.

How do I get the red squiggly underline back for misspellings?

The line only shows up for individual words when I click the spelling/grammer check button myself. It used to show up in the whole doc as a red or blue underline, but not anymore?

I tried messing with the preferences but it they still don't show up : (

I'll add a picture in the comments.

Unable to open some documents on mobile

I'm using the Google Docs app on Android and for some reason, recently several documents have just stopped being able to be opened on mobile. When I try, I get the pop-up "Can't open this document" "Check your internet connection, and make sure you have permission to open the document, then try again." They're my own documents so there isn't any permission issue, and my internet connection is fine. It's only certain documents for some reason. I can access them fine on my computer but on mobile they just won't open. The only suggestion I've found online is clearing the cache which didn't help at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is extremely annoying to not have access to my own documents.

I've tried only using 4 headings in my document, but the 5th and 6th still remain in the drop down, I do not want it there because the amount will confuse other users that aren't computer literate . Please help.

How can I fix this weird share vs. viewer only thing in the shared docs?

So basically my friend made me an editor of these 2 docs, but some reason it also still believes I'm only a viewer?

Originally wanted to add a pic, but apparently that ain't allowed here

Like it keeps saying above the white doc sheet in a blue background: ''The file is view-only. No edits can be made to this file. Contact file owner for details.''

Just so y'all know, after all these years using Google Docs, I've never seen this pop-up before, these 2 docs worked fine before, & when I click on the ''Share'' all the way to the top right, it clearly says ''Editor'' next my email, so why is this still popping up? So, please help.

Even after I told my friend to fix it, it still remained. What is this?

Formatting not working on Paste

Hello all. I discovered a bug that seems system wide today. When pasting into Docs, I no longer get the option to change formatting. It used to be a small box after pasting, to the right side of the words. Now it's gone, and instead Doc just pastes directly into the document, without any change to prior formatting. Trying to post without formatting at all doesn't work either. This issue is uniform across different browsers, different users, different docs, and different laptops. It also applies to both keyboard pasting and mouse pasting.

How to change citation format/font/font size/etc

Hey guys! I figured this would be helpful since I personally wondered and looked around and couldn't find anything useful out there about how to change all footnote formats.

When you have footnotes on your Google doc, it's often a pain in the ass to change each one, but if you update what you have your "Normal Text" set as in that menu with the titles and headings, then it will also change the footnote! For instance, I changed my "Normal text" format to Times New Roman from Arial, and the footnote font changed as well!

Figured this might be a handy thing to know, especially since it took me so long to figure out

Bugged footnot: can't delete footnote 92??

Very long time user of Google doc, I write all my uni work on it.

Just finished a chapter of my Master's dissertation, changing the footnotes and all. Then came across a random one, footnote 92, which I can't delete, cut, past, or anything.

If I try to moove this mf the doc tells me "error you're have no Internet connection copy your modifications and refresh"

I tried to copy the doc, same thing on the copy.

Everything else work just fine just this footnote in particular, why??? Does it ever happened to you??

Not a big issue but still strange.
