Where are your favorite websites or publications to find out about local events?
Is this a good sign?
Hey everyone, I’m a regular transfer applicant.I finished my alumni interview about 8 days ago. I just checked my College Board CSS portal and noticed Georgetown now has a populated 'Award Letter Date' for May 1st. Has anyone seen this happen right before a decision drop? Does this mean the financial aid office has already 'claimed' my file?
no georgetown interview?
has anyone gotten into gtown as a transfer without an interview?
context:
- i had one in hs when i applied (rejected)
- live in an area w/ a LOT of alumni
- called admissions and they were also confused why i didn’t get one
- submitted app on time (3/1) and original app
so has anyone gotten in without one? am i good or?
Tulane ($18k) vs Georgetown ($30k)
I am a senior who can’t decide between Tulane ($18k per year net price) and Georgetown ($30k per year net price). For context, I am majoring in Neuroscience/ neurobiology on the Pre-Med track and come from a very low income family so I am taking out loans to cover everything. What do I do?
Also was accepted to Tulane Honors Program + was awarded their Community Service Fellows scholarship, which is only awarded to 15 people, if that helps. My main concern abt Tulane is the party culture. Advice?
Recommendations of Places to Frame Georgetown Diploma in DC?
I’d like to frame Georgetown Master’s diploma as a gift for someone. I am not a Georgetown Alum so I don’t know where the “go to” spot for diploma framing is, and my friend Google hasn’t been helpful.
Anyone have recommendations for a good place in DC that could frame the diploma and have it look nice?
Georgetown vs Oxford - Please help me decide!
I’ve been accepted to two great masters programs: one at Georgetown and one at Oxford. I’m really torn and not quite sure which one to choose. I would love to get some other perspectives to make my decision a little easier. For reference, I’m interested in international affairs and, ideally, want to work for an IO!
Georgetown:
Pro
- Washington DC locations/connections
- Have an opportunity to improve foreign language proficiency
- Would be able to complete internships while enrolled
- Got a large merit scholarship
- Great program, great school
Con
- Program is two years (longer time until I can work/get a job)
- Living in DC for two years is going to be incredibly expensive, would likely have to take out loans just to cover rent
- Worry about how unstable the current DC job market is
- If I ever wanted to move out of DC, I’m unsure how strong that network is
- A fear that, after graduation, I would be left with no options but to do something related to working for the Trump admin (something I wouldn’t really enjoy)
Oxford
Pro
- Would be able to build connections abroad/outside of DC
- Program is only one year
- Living expenses are much cheaper
- Great program, great school
Con
- Uncertainty about how strong connections would be/how strong alumni network is
- Would not be able to complete an internship as part of the program
- Foreign language training not part of the program, I would have to arrange lessons on my own.
I would love everyone’s advice! This is a decision that has been haunting me for the past few weeks and I would really appreciate any support I can get!
Rowing/Crew at Georgetown?
Hi! I'm an admitted student considering Georgetown and I row at my high school. It's something I'd potentially like to continue in college, but I'm worried about the commitment required since it's varsity--what does rowing (womens) look like at Georgetown (how often are practices, etc.?)?
Also, from what I've heard, Georgetown doesn't offer rowing as a club/im sport, is this true? If I decide not to walk on, are there opportunities to continue rowing recreationally, even occasionally, either through Georgetown or through programs in DC not directly affiliated with the university? Thanks!
When is move in day?
I realized I have no idea when move in day is for the upcoming fall, nor when the first day of classes is. Anyone know?
cwru premed vs georgetown premed
georgetown:
in the dc area (love love dc and georgetown), probably less competitive med environment which i could use, better student environment, easier to pivot into humanities if it doesn’t work out. i could also try for their EAP program! i love its social, environment, food, and dorms etc.
however, i would need to take out 5.5k in loans, and work off 6k of my tuition alone (after 4k in summer savings) also not as strong in research or med to case western. results in 22k+ in loans.
case western:
super good medical school pipeline, stronger stem culture, it’s also cheaper. i would end up having to work off ~7k in tuition as well but it would be with no loans.
although super good for pre med, worried about the competitive nature in med. i do like competitive environments but i would prefer an environment i could enjoy myself so i dont burnout over pre med path. also heard campus jobs pay $12/hr so id need another job.
advice for class plan?
Hi! I'm considering coming to Georgetown for computer science with a premed concentration, which I'm very excited about. I think I would really like the school but with my class plan (I'd also want to minor in Chinese/just study Chinese) I would probably have to take an extra semester even with summer classes, which isn't exactly what I'm hoping for. I guess I'm just hoping to get some insight/advice from current Georgetown students, especially those who've done CS, premed, or Chinese. Is it feasible to do 5 classes per semester and not drown in work/still have time to have a good social life and party and stuff like that? Is it easy to get approved for credit overload, and is taking credit overload common? Is taking an extra semester worth it to come here, and would that affect employment/higher education in the future? Would it look bad to get a BA in CS instead of a BS? How easy is it to transfer credit from study abroad programs (all of the non-language classes are taught in English)?
STIA Major in SFS
hi! can anybody elaborate on how extensive the classes are in stia. would you say it's more STEM heavy or more humanities heavy? also, do you think it's a good idea to get into STIA considering it's fairly new to Georgetown
Community Scholars Program
Has anyone ever done CSP in July before their freshman year? If so what was it like? Did you stay in single dorms?
Mma gyms near Georgetown?
Hello! I'm an incoming student at gu and was wondering if there are any nearby mma gyms? I do muay thai but wanted to learn some grappling for fun. My ideal gym is as follows.
Good instruction. Ideally the coaches or students have semi-pro or better experience
Price. Cheaper is better
Environment. I'd prefer a more chill/relaxing enviorment. Im fine with training hard, but id prefer to see smiles while puking my guts out.
Proximity, need to get there via public transport or skateboard.
Thank you so much for the help!
