Potential new owners - are we crazy?

My wife and I, after driving a few other compact suvs fell in love with the ex30. My wife loves the minimalist interior stying, I love the 422 horsepower and we both love the exterior design. But I have never seen a more divisive number of reviews for any single car. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Edmund’s even out right despises the car. We have read all the nightmare stories around the software glitches and driving monitoring, lower than expected range and buggy proximity key entry. The rear leg room is obvious and so is the trunk space. We test drive a Toyota c-hr which we like, but the build quality was no where near Volvo. We’ re coming from an x1, which is the perfect size for us and this will be our first electric vehicle. We have a deposit on an ex30arriving in 2 weeks. We Are hoping the smaller size is not a problem. 95% use case is single-driver and passenger driving to work or mid range trips around the island we live in in Canada with mild climate. We have a gas powered truck for when we need to haul people or go on long trips, but the plan is for the ex is to-act as our primary daily driver vehicle. Are we crazy for wanting to buy one of these? Or will we be driven nuts by the numerous common complaints? Would love to hear actually owner responses. Edit model on reserve is a twin ultra.

110 vs. 130 km/h?

I just wondered, do you people experience a big difference between consumption between driving 110 and 130 on the motorway? Is it worth it capping at 110 for long drives?

Advice SM vs DM

Hello, I’m looking to buy an ex30, but I can’t decide between SM or AWD. The leadership lent me a SR SM vehicle which y loved but found flooring it made the back swerve, didn’t quite liked it, is the AWD any more stable under high acceleration? Thanks!

Charging Cable - 240V adapter?

I got my EX30 a few days ago but the 240V plug adapter, which is for a wall box, was not included. Instead, I got the regular 110V outlet plug. Is this typical? (Canada here)

Android Show - updates for cars with Google built-in

Google announced upcoming changes for cars with Google built-in, such as the EX30 and EX60. You can see the planned updates in this video, but there's no telling when Volvo will roll them out.

How is RWD handling in wet and snow?

Didn't want to hijack this thread, but some of the comments imply that the RWD (SMER?) version steps out easily in the wet or snow, despite having traction control enabled.

Any Canadians want to chime in? Specifically, is this the case, and how smooth is the power delivery if you modulate the accelerator?

For context, I have driven manuals all my life, so am used to feathering the clutch and or gas in snow. I did spend a few years with a MX-5 Miata, but that had far less power and torque than the EX30. If it matters, main roads here do get plowed quickly, so it's primarily a concern for when it rains or if I'm on side roads.

Canadian owners - any dealership discount at all?

I am thinking of getting the EX30 in Ontario. The lease rates are repulsive so I think I would just bite the bullet and buy it outright. Went into a dealership last week and they did not bulge. It's basically selling at MSRP right now. The MSRP did indeed dropped compared to earlier in the year, but I was hoping to see if any recent buyers also got a dealership discount. I wanted to gather some info but I go back to the dealership on whether I should negotiate. Thanks

Cloud Blue Jr is Here!

After leasing a C40, I’ve decided to lease this guy (AWD Twin Ultra)- it’s narrower and overall smaller than the C40 but grips the road fairly well and it’s a pleasure to drive.

Edit: second pic is of my C40 interior, on our way to being separated 🙂

Key Fob

Does anyone else find that automated unlocking is unreliable when using the key fob? I often find myself having to wait at the car for a minute before it opens. And even when I press it to the B column, sometimes it’s quite slow to response.

Ultra SMER

This is the first car I’ve ever owned, I’ve had it three weeks, and I genuinely never thought it was possible to love a car this much. I was always indifferent to driving and I only got my licence last year (at the ripe old age of 36) because I thought it would come in handy for career change. Since getting the EX30 though I find myself just going out for a drive around my town and neighbouring villages to relax. I love driving it so much and I so glad I went got this over other cars I’d shortlisted.

Edit: typo

Fire risk if charge above 70%?

Did anyone receive a notification in the Volvo app that the car needs to be charged to under 70% otherwise there's a fire risk? It says that a hardware fix will be scheduled.

Range dropping faster than expected

Just charged up. System told us we have 178 miles range for our 120 mile journey. A few miles down the road and now only a 10 mile difference between the range and remaining journey. Has anyone had a similar experience and knows whether it is a bug in the computer system or a genuine problem with battery power retention? Any help appreciated, thanks.

Something like 90% of cars in the UK are financed via a PCP. I think there’s a lot of sense in that for ICE cars but less so for EVs where the market is young and mature so residual values and technology are still evolving. So I’ve run some simple numbers using the Volvo website. PCH is by far cheaper provided you’re happy with handing the car back - despite the fact that PCP is 0% interest!

Proximity unlock not working

IVe had the ex30 for a week now and at first the proximity lock and unlock worked great. But suddenly it just doesn’t unlock when I approach the car. It locks when k leave but won’t unlock. I don’t really know what’s going on. It’s not the biggest deal, I’m just so confused as to why it suddenly stopped unlocking and I always have to use my phone to unlock now. I toggled proximity lock off and on again in the settings and nothing really changed.

Thinking about picking one of these up. Does it feel sporty at all? Good cornering. I drove one but the dealership only let me go on the highway so I couldn't really judge.

Hi everyone,

Got a new EX30 and have only approximately 130 km on it, and i noticed this icon on the screen.

I couldn't find it on the warning and indicator symbols:

https://www.volvocars.com/lb/support/car/ex30/article/fa683eafd4b47850c0a8cc3708e5f447-717b015d4b1495b9c0a8b09739ea20ee-8664b2fa77a7e089c0a8296870d1a409/

Am still waiting for service to get back to me, but if anyone knows what the icon means, at least I won't be in the dark when service gets back to me.

Thanks!
