Hello, everyone! I'm a fanfic writer, my nickname on ao3 is YueXiaLaoRen. Let me share my story.

You know, I love writing fanfiction and I love seeing people enjoy my work. I usually start writing fanfiction when I can’t find anything that takes my fancy. I thought: well, it does happen that when something new comes along, people get inspired and start following in that person’s footsteps. That was my idea: to write something that me and other Destiel fans would like and that would inspire them to write similar fanfics, so that I could read and enjoy them too.

As they say, ‘thoughts are material’.... (Or ‘be careful what you wish for’?) In any case, it happened unexpectedly. When I was checking new fics on the ‘possessive Castiel’ tag, I found at least two fics that were copying mine! And... I don’t know how to feel about it. I should be proud and flattered that my fic inspired someone, but they didn’t even give me credit. Not even a comment or a kudos.

I don’t want to discourage other creative people by writing bad things in the comment section or sharing their accounts. I don’t want to do anything until I’m absolutely certain that they’ve actually plagiarised me. Maybe I’m being biased, and they really did write it all themselves, and it’s just a coincidence that their fanfiction is so similar to mine, I don’t own the Supernatural fandom or the tropes.

But I feel hurt. For some reason, I feel absolutely gutted! 😭 Especially when I went into the comments section and started reading how people were praising the authors, saying they’d never read anything like this masterpiece in their lives. It’s really upsetting, and I know it sounds like I’m just an attention-seeking child who’s upset at being ignored, but I don’t really care.

I'm lost. I don’t know what to do. I’ve gathered all the evidence into one file and sent it to the AO3 team, but they haven't responded yet. I know their team is small and they’re flooded with work, so I don’t blame them and I don’t want to write any extra complaints to them. I asked someone if they could read my fic and compare it to theirs and help me find out for sure whether there are instances of plagiarism or if I’m just imagining things. They said that plagiarism is taking place, but I still don't know what to do.

Please, I desperately need an advice 😭

Thank you for asking me questions, because after that I decided to reread these passages with a fresh gaze and cool head, summarise them briefly, then condense those summaries down to a single sentence... And if you look at them this way, people who said there was nothing new here were actually right. Because everything apart from the shower scenes and Cas’s lecture on healthy eating has appeared in hundreds of fanfics before mine, in various forms. My problem is that I don’t like the fact that these fanfics popped up straight after mine, using the same combination of tropes 🫤

Therefore, I’ve come to terms with the situation. I’ll leave this post up today so that people can see this update, but I’ll delete it tomorrow to officially close this thread and move on. Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply and helped me keep a level head. I’m very grateful to you all)

I just read Twist and Shout and it was good. However, I think I am gonna lay off some heavy stuff because that way crazy! Anybody have any comfort fic recommendations for me? I am a huge fan of A/B/O but any comfort is just fine. 😄

Hey guys! My sister and I watched supernatural together all throughout our childhood and for fun we watched a few episodes the other day. I was talking about how obvious destiel was in the show, but she claimed there weren’t any obvious signs and ppl are just making everything up. Could yall help pointing out some very obvious destiel moments in the show? Thanks!

Hi! I recently got back into writing after a long gap and started posting a Destiel fic as a WIP.

The core idea is an Actors AU where Dean is a blockbuster superhero actor trying to break out of that image, and Castiel is an Oscar-winning actor from a complicated film family. They’re cast as lovers in a historical film about a revolution and a romance that doesn’t survive.

A lot of the story explores that space between performance and reality—what it means to “act” in love versus actually feeling it, especially when the cameras stop rolling. There’s also a parallel writer/director dynamic shaping the story behind the scenes.

Tone-wise, it’s a slow build, a bit introspective at the start, and leans into emotional tension rather than immediate drama.

I’ve just posted Chapter 1 and would genuinely appreciate any feedback—especially on whether the character dynamics and setup are landing.

Hey hey, so my friend doesn't have a reddit account and she wanted me to ask here if anyone knows of a specific fanfiction she read years ago.

She said that it was mainly centered around Dean, Sam, Cas and Gabriel as kids or tweens. Castiel was a new kid. He mentions Michael as his older brother, and his parents are religious so they named them after angels from the bible. She also said the mother was not in the picture.

She also said it's human AU, no angels I don't think. She can't remember what website it was on, Fanfiction or wattpad or ao3, idk, but it was before 2016.

It's been a long time since she read this fanfic and she can't remember every detail but if anyone has any idea what this could be it would help. Also sorry for the lack of details! This is all she told me.

Edit - I should add that because it's a kid fic, my friend doesn't think it was necessarily a romance in any sense. All the characters may have just been friends, but still figured this would be the best place to ask.

Background: So I was huge into supernatural (watched it like 3x through) in middle school and then watched season 15 live in 2020, and used to be super in touch with the fandom on Tumblr and stuff. I recently started rewatching the show at 20 yrs old and kinda got sucked back into it because I needed some nostalgia/comfort while being away from home.

I know and remember from 15x18 that Castiel is canonically in love with Dean, as was confirmed by Misha Collins (and others).

I wanted to ask ppl who know a lot about this is there a canon stance on Deans perspective on this? Like have they confirmed whether or not dean reciprocated at all?

I tried to google this but all sources just say nothing really in canon but there’s ongoing debate among fandom. I personally headcanon Dean as bisexual because it just makes a lot of sense to me, but I know this isn’t canon in the show (or hasn’t been confirmed by anybody).

I was just wondering if there’s still debate going on, do you guys think anybody ever come out and confirm yes or no to this question? or have they already and I’ve missed it? (cast/crew/writers/show-runners)

So instead of just dying he becomes an angel and helps Cas and Jack run Heaven or they can freely move between heaven and earth to continue the family business or something like that? Or maybe Dean and Cas are soulmates and because of that he turns into an angel when he dies, then his new angelic powers help defeat Lucifer/Metatron/Chuck, or whoever the current enemy is?

It was a High School AU, where Castiel was Dean and Sam’s neighbor. Angels were known to the world, and John was an angel hunter (?) and didn’t like them. Then Dean becomes an angel, and starts falling in love with Cas and Dean is an omega (???).

I know also Dean was dating Jo at first, and why am I remembering that Sam is a cat.

I feel like I made this fanfiction up in my head but I swear it was real 😂
