Some new cards I made!
Some new cards, all original artwork, some holos with different holo patterns and some not. Loved making these!
Texture phase 2, phase 3 soon
Another variant of the broly x kaiju No.8 design I've been working out. I've scrapped Alot of these along the way but I feel like I'm almost to where I like all the elements. Thinking that border has to go though.
Texture achieved using modge podge dimensional magic from hobby lobby and various brushes/hobby knife
Thanks for looking 🙏🤙
Batch #2: Celebi and the Johto Beasts!
Hey everyone!
Back with my second batch!
I finally dialed in the 100% scaling on my Canon TS9520a so these are actually the right size now.
I’m working on a Johto/Psychic theme for my VaultX 4x3 binder, trying to match some of the heavy hitters in my collection like my SI Mew and Neo Typhlosion.
The lineup:
Crystal Celebi (E-Reader borders are so satisfying)
Alt Art Suicune V [Dark Indigo]
"Unown" Entei [mofinngram]
Giratina [cchan_tuka](wanted to see how dark I could get the ink)
Still using the same method: acetoned modern cosmos holos, transparency film, 3M spray, and white acrylic markers for the backing.
The real question I have for everyone is how you’re getting so precise/crisp with the bordering and sharp straight lines throughout? Mine are definitely an improvement over batch #1, but some of the stuff I see on here looks straight-up factory made. What’s the secret sauce for those razor-sharp edges and text?
Let me know what you think of the progress!
Does anyone else get stuck trying to perfect a custom card?
I have been making some custom cards lately and I keep running into the same problem.
The beginning is always the best part. I will have a clear idea, choose the art and maybe try a new finish or texture.
But when I am halfway through, I start to think too much.
I will change the layout, then change it again and then wonder if I should change something completely. What should have taken a few hours ends up taking a lot longer.
I sometimes just leave and come back later and it is funny how it usually looks fine the first time.
I think it is less about making it perfect and more about knowing when to stop.
I want to know how you all deal with this. Do you stop when you reach a certain point or do you keep making changes until it feels right?
What is your dream desktop printer?
If budget wasn’t an issue, which printer would you get to print white on foil, color on that layer, and then gloss and finally spot uv?
I know the Roland flat beds are available for like 30k, but are there cheaper options?
Epson EcoTank ET-2980 is this good enough?
Does anyone know if this jet ink printer will work for making custom Pokemon cards?
Guess who's my favorite?
Been doing custom cards for quite a while. I decided to points some greninjas.
These are not holos, i find the transparency method to get too thick results and to get cards that are too glossy.
So I printed these on sticker paper (which i find have the best shining / finish to emulate real card feel) and stock them on legit backs.
E-Reader Mew and "DX" Dragonite using Transparency Method!
Hey everyone! Long-time lurker, first-time creator here. I finally took the plunge and started my "Michi Method" binder journey. These are my first two attempts at making custom cards.
The Process:
Printer: Canon PIXMA TS9520a (using High Quality / Glossy Photo settings).
Technique: Stripped modern Cosmos Holos using 100% Acetone.
Printing: Inkjet Transparency Film (mirrored the image).
The "Pop": Used a white acrylic marker on the back of the transparency film to make the Pokémon opaque so the holo only hits the background.
Adhesive: 3M Spray Adhesive to bond the film to the card.
Finishing: Evteck Paper Trimmer and the Kadomaru PRO NEO (3mm "S" setting) for the corners.
What I Learned:
I definitely messed up the scaling on the Dragonite (it's a little "Mini-DX" lol). Still trying to dial in the exact print dimensions in my software.
The white marker is a game-changer but tricky to get perfectly smooth.
Seeking Advice:
How do you guys ensure 100% accurate scaling when printing from a Mac/PC?
Any tips for getting a more "even" white layer behind the Pokémon?
Would love to hear your thoughts or any tips for attempt #3!
