Student Faces Expulsion After Posting Video Of Seniors Who Can Barely Read

Re: The Corvallis clinic needs to be shut down

My apologies if I didn't post this in the most efficient way. I want to reach out, my post got a lot of comments, many people dealing with the same issues I am. I have filed a formal complaint with the Oregon Attorney General's office, basically accusing them of medical malpractice and negligence since they are scheduling appointments in bad faith. A charge would need to prove harm, but I would argue that scheduling appointments with no intention of keeping them is delaying medical care to people who need it, which inevitably will cause harm. I would urge anybody who commented and shared their own horror stories to do the same thing. If enough of us do it, maybe something will be done.

The mayor of NYC is doing great things for his city. How can we bring that to Corvallis or in OR as a whole?

Bald Eagle in Town

I was near 8th and Tyler this morning, and heard a bunch of crows making a ruckus. When I looked up I saw they were trying to chase a way a bald eagle, who could not have been less bothered. He posted up on a tree and was calling out for longer than I could stand and watch. I was surprised he was so far into town.

Concerning incident involving Missionaries

I had a concerning incident involving some young men on mission this evening. I was walking my dog up NW Firwood at just before 9PM, heading toward Robin Hood St.

A young woman was walking a large, rambunctious dog ahead of me. I crossed to the other sidewalk to give her space as I neared. Two young men crested the hill on their bicycles, stopping short when they saw her.

I was far enough down the hill, wearing black with my hood pulled up, and had slowed with my dog that I don't believe they noticed me as they were engaged with her.

They immediately started in with their pleasantries and inviting her to their church for service. She politely deflected, they persisted with the invitation. She declined, saying she had a church of her own, clearly struggling to calm her dog and trying to disengage and walk away.

I had reached the top of the hill, directly across from her on the opposite side, and stood there with my dog until they noticed me.

For context, I am a 6ft tall 40 year old woman. Even when one of the young men noticed me there, he acknowledged my presence with a "hi" and turned back to continue engaging with the young woman.

I stood there with my dog until they both noticed I was still standing there, then they quickly ended the conversation with the young woman and sped down the hill.

She power walked around the corner and down the block, leaving the area quickly while looking around.

Now I am admittedly not a person who is going to be thrilled to be engaged by Mormon missionaries but had these young men tried to engage me, a person in the same situational environment as the one they wouldn't let leave, I would chalk it up to them doing what they are charged to do by their church.

The laser focus on a young woman walking alone at dusk and the persistent engagement despite her deferral by these two young men is pretty alarming, considering I believe they didn't think they were being observed. This kind of behavior in Epstein-era America is not a good look for the LDS Church.

Where can I get a growler or crowler of fresh, local pale, red, or amber ale today?

My preference is pale ale, sold by the brewery, but that’s not hard or fast. I’ve got a lot of flexibility built in. I just don’t really wanna go to the grocery store very much.

UPDATE: went to Oregon Trail, and as good as their pale was, I went Mosaic Red. Holy crap, what a delicious beer! And the taproom! It felt like coming home. I’m excited to take people I love back there and spend time with each item on tap. Nothing but love, yo!

Property Management companies

Me again, I am looking for a property management company to manage my rental home in Corvallis. I want a company that is ethical, responsive to tenants, and good to deal with. I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have.

Best fish and chips in town?

Not my usual go to but I’ve been having a craving for fish and chips lately. Any recommendations for amazing fish and chips? Bonus point if they have a good tartar sauce or something adjacent. Not too worried about price point so fancy is fine but not necessary.

Corvallis Sports Park is closing

Personally devastated. It’s such a cool spot. Got an email saying it was sold and the new owners are putting in pickleball courts.

I don’t have a lot to add beyond this is a really sad day…

People with clipboards watching the roads in NW Corvallis

Anyone else see around 10 people with clipboards taking notes standing by the stop lights by MLK park this morning? Just interested in what they were up to. Seems like they would start writing things down when someone would stop and go.

Samaritan Merger Moves, OHA Sets Last Minute Listening Sessions, and There’s Town Halls

Samaritan’s merger heads into the regulatory homestretch and OHA looks to check its listening session boxes hastily and comically. The Corvallis Advocate offers background and the latest. Separately, Samaritan is scheduling their own town halls, and with plenty of notice.

Over the last three years, neither my wife nor I have been able to see our primary care physician once for a specific medical need. Appointments are always at least four weeks out, and so far in our case every single one has been canceled, usually less than 24 hours before the appointment. Every ear infection, injury, or other medical condition which would've always been treated with a primary care physician has resulted in us going to quick care, urgent care, or the ER.

I'll be honest, I have seen my PCP twice for physicals over the last three years (had to miss one year because my new doctor was MIA, she ended up leaving six months later), both of which lasted for about five minutes. They do a small fraction of the stuff that has always been done when I've had a physical. I had to call them after the last one to ask why I didn't have prostate screening, for which I have an immediate family history. And I am of the age where I should be getting one every year.

The icing on the cake occurred a couple days ago. My wife had been released from the hospital after having two emergency knee surgeries due to an infection. Our doctor was simply not available to look at her knee when it started, but we got a call from them telling we had to come in for a mandatory postop meeting with her doctor and they could see us in two days.

I should mention they had just canceled an appointment I set up four weeks earlier because my shoulder and arm keep going numb, and it is getting progressively worse. So they have time for BS appointments that are purely administrative, but not for any real medical needs. I should mention to that they called my wife the night before she was supposed to have this mandatory appointment stating they needed insurance information, which hadn't changed, and her birthdate was incorrect, although it was the same it's always been her entire life. She had to call them back, and they had her on hold for an hour and a half. We basically told them we're not coming, cancel it. To which they hung up on us.

I have to ask, what are they there for at all? Aside from billing insurance for unnecessary appointments. The word parasite definitely comes to mind. All since they were bought out by United Health.

Coldwell Banker as property managers?

I just moved to Portland, and I'll be leasing my house out. I'm wondering what sort of experiences renters have had with Coldwell Banker as a property manager? Are there any other companies in town that you would recommend working with?

Cottage Clusters?

Does anyone here have the latest insider knowledge about the two "cottage clusters" being built here? There's one on Buchanan and a larger one on North 9th near the hospital.

Are the homes going to be available for purchase, and if so, for how much?

Or are they going to be rentals?

Can anyone buy them or will they be income restricted?

If anyone knows anything, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to know more.
