[all] Hot Takes & Unpopular Opinion

I’m curious and bored sooooo

Pretty please share your Percy Jackson / Heroes of Olympus / etc etc you get the idea share hot takes and unpopular opinions you have in the comments

Considering the topic, reminder that this is a fictional series and therefore not worth arguing about :) discussion is awesome and doing so is one of my favorite parts about books but it is not worth getting genuinely angry at others over

[pjotv] Had the show been animated

I know plenty of people wish the show had been animated. I get it’s a better media to show special effects but it has its disadvantages too.

Animation is reliant on budget too. Look at Arcane. Had great animation due to its budget. However a lot of time was spent between seasons so the same may have occurred for a prospective animated show.

Another thing is that if special effects in live action screw up then you can fall back in the actors physical performance. If that screws up then you have the costume and design.

But if the animation team screws up then oh boy. I don’t know how many of you guys follow anime, but if you are aware of the controversy around Blue Lock Season 2 and One Punch Man Season 3 then you know animation can break a show regardless of of its voice actors or story.

Animation isn’t all sunshine and rainbows compared to live action.

Remember when Rick claimed that it was important for PJO to have a "strong ending"? [pjo]

Now we have random additions years later that have things like Percy pissing his pants! Thanks, Rick!

Btw, the above is still on his website: https://rickriordan.com/about/frequently-asked-questions/

And yes, the recommendation letters are not a "separate series". They are considered direct sequels to the first 5 books and a part of the same series. They are also marketed and listed as such on his own website: https://rickriordan.com/series/percy-jackson-and-the-olympians/

Artificial Demigods [all]

Really weird idea I came up with while plotting a fanfic, but I think it has potential. I'd imagine these "demigods" are regular humans infused with demigod blood through some dank Ancient Greek magic or outright created from cultured blood through ritual. I think it could be a fun way to explore the magical side of the Camp-Half-Blood world. What do people think?

I Never Understood Why Will's Powers Are Supposed To Be Better In Tartarus[TSATS][general]

Okay so I know Apollo is the god of the sun, which is way above Tartarus. When Chiron, Will, Nico and Rachel are discussing it, they don't say why will would be stronger AND weaker at the same time. Weaker makes sense, but the better powers part doesn't.

I had to practically put the book down when Annebeth said that Percy just wants Luke to be evil in TBOL. [all]

This was my reaction.

[ALL] What if a magician had charm speak?

Just hear me out, could charm speak influence divine words?

Say a child of Aphrodite becomes a magician and the eye of a God. What do you think would happen?

Trying to find info on this edition of the Lightning Thief [all]

It seems to be a rare edition of the first book. The problem is that it's seemingly so rare I can find very little information on it. Image searches only give the occasional reddit post or someone owning it on Instagram.

From what I can tell it's a promotional copy from Puffin. It may have been available more than once but certainly this one was printed on 2018. I worked in a bookshop so that's how I got my hands on it. I don't believe it was ever on the shop floor as it has no barcode and the ISBN would have to be input manually.

Does anyone have any idea if it's worth anything or information in general on it?

Percy Jackson’s Artemis isn’t a daddy’s girl [general]

There have been a lot of criticisms about Artemis. Many have a point, some of them strike me as bad faith or misunderstandings though.

In those threads I see the argument that Artemis is a huge hypocrite for disliking men while being a daddy’s girl. Especially since Zeus isn’t a good man himself. If that were true it would be hypocritical. But Percy Jackson’s Artemis is never said to be close to Zeus.

People are getting this idea from the myths, where Artemis does things like sit on his lap and run to him when she’s crying. Artemis in the myths and Artemis in the books are very* *different. (Could you even imagine Pjo Artemis acting like that?)

In Percy Jackson Artemis doesn’t speak highly of him. She’s never shown to have a genuinely loving relationship like in the myths, instead she just knows what to say and do to around him.

Is it valid if I listen to audiobooks and watch deep dives on the series? I have attention problems since I was little and I can't really focus on the books paired with my PTSD it's nearly impossible for me to concentrate on reading like I tried to read the first book and I just couldn't but I find audiobooks and explanation videos easier to grasp

Demimonsters [all]

Do you think it would be feasible for demimonsters to exist in PJO verse just like demigods? The gods and monsters are both immortals. Thr gods already share their essence with mortals (both with and without consent) to create demigods. Given the theme of monster redemption that has come up now years after introducing Tyson as a good cyclops, it does seem feasible that some monsters could fall in love mortals or demigods.

(Asking this for a fanfic male character I writing who is a demimonster being half human on his dad's side and half manticore on his mom's side as well as Dr.Thorn's grandson who is having his own existential crisis of choosing to whether to be a human or fulfill the duty of a monster thanks to his grandfather's expectations and hunt down demigods. I am still deciding whether to make his father a clear sighted mortal or a demigod tho. If demigod, I would make it Hecate or Dinosyus as his divine relative on the character's father's side. If Dinosyus, it would be diabolical given how Dr. Thorn died.)

Do you guys think this shit would be cute? [all] [pjo]

So, I was thinking. Do you guys think a ship with a demigod from Nike and a demigod from Eris would be cute? Since one is victory and the other is chaos?

[Pjotv] Im kinda new to this subreddit so I don't know if this has been talked about.

I remember reading the PJO books, but its been quite awhile. Why in the show is there absolutely no mention of Percy being able to communicate with horses? Didn't the books explain he could because they too are children of Posiden and made from sea foam?

[PJO] What if Sally found a better husband first?

If Gabe was never in the picture and Sally found a good husband would Montauk still be a significant part of Sally's and Percy's lives? I know in book 4 after Paul and Sally got together the family was still seen vacationing in Montauk, but at that point Montauk was already cemented as a place of sentimental and emotional significance.

In the proposed hypothetical it's a clean slate, the only significance that Montauk would have is being the place where Sally met Poseidon. Without Gabe to inflict his brand of misery and suffering, Montauk wouldn't serve as the same bastion of comfort and safety it was in canon. From the start Percy would have had a caring and attentive father and Sally would have a loving and supportive husband.

I could see it still being a birthday destination for the family so Poseidon can still discreetly check in on Percy but I feel like it would be closer to visitation between divorced parents than anything else.

What are your thoughts?

Edit: Gabe was chosen because of his mortal smell and how it was able to mask Percy's scent. It was never really specified why or how he has such a strong scent i'm going to assume that it's completely unrelated to him being a shit human being. So in this case we can assume that this character has the same level of smell but is the complete opposite of a human shit stain.
