Moving to Bothell or Kirkland this summer

I’ll be moving from the east coast and starting a job in northern Bothell at the end of the summer. I can’t wait to come to the PNW!

My spouse and I are in our late 40s. While we’ll both have cars, we’re looking to move to a condo or townhouse where we can easily walk to restaurants or bars and hang out with people our age.

Our budget is ~1-1.5 million. Would it be better to live near downtown Bothell or in Kirkland? I’m a bit worried about driving at rush hour—though we should be going in the opposite direction of most traffic. Will a drive down to Kirkland from Bothell be awful at the end of a work day? Is it worth it to be closer to the lake and more amenities?

I’d really appreciate any advice.

New owners voided my prepaid membership credits after takeover — is this normal?

Has anyone dealt with businesses changing membership policies after new ownership takes over?

I was a member at a Stretch Lab Bothell for quite a while under the previous owners, and they were always accommodating with rolling over unused credits if scheduling conflicts came up. That flexibility was honestly one of the reasons I stayed with them.

After new ownership took over, everything changed. I had accumulated a few prepaid credits and was told they would no longer be rolled over because “those payments went to the previous owners.” As a customer, that made no sense to me because when you buy a business, you also take on its memberships, customers, and obligations.

Ironically, when I canceled my membership, I was specifically told that I could still use my remaining credits. Later, they completely changed their position and said the credits were forfeited under the membership agreement.

I tried resolving it professionally and simply asked to use the sessions I had already paid for. Their “solution” was offering to reactivate my account for an extra $150 fee just so I could access my own prepaid credits for 30 days. I explained why I felt that was unfair, and after that they stopped responding altogether.

What bothers me most isn’t even the money at this point — it’s how dismissive and inconsistent the communication has been. It feels like loyal long-term customers got treated as liabilities after the ownership change.

Curious if anyone else has experienced something similar with memberships/business acquisitions and how you handled it.

Thank you Bothell for celebrating Earth Month with us

Thank you, Bothell, for celebrating Earth Month with us!

From community events to hands-on volunteer opportunities, April was a reminder that protecting our environment is something we all play a part in. More than 40 volunteers joined us at our Earth Day event with Whale Scout, helping clear around 18 cubic yards of invasive vegetation. Earth Month may be over, but work continues year-round. Through the Climate Action Plan and Urban Forest Management Plan, the City is working toward a healthier, more resilient, and more sustainable Bothell.

Help keep that momentum going! Learn more about Bothell’s climate initiatives and how you can get involved: https://bothellwa.gov/2443/Climate-Action

AANHPI Heritage Month, National Police Week, and Jewish American Heritage Month Proclamations

Thank you to the community members who joined the City Council Tuesday night as they issued proclamations recognizing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, National Police Week, and Jewish American Heritage Month.

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month recognizes the many cultures, histories, languages, traditions, and contributions of AANHPI communities. AC Petersen of the Bothell Arts Commission accepted the proclamation and spoke of the importance of visibility, belonging, and honoring the many stories and diverse experiences represented within AANHPI communities.

National Police Week honors the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and recognize those currently serving. Bothell Police Department Chief Ken Seuberlich accepted the proclamation, speaking in gratitude of the community's support of law enforcement. He also spoke in remembrance of fallen officers across the country and in Bothell, acknowledging Officer Jonathan Shoop, who died in the line of duty while serving our community on July 13, 2020.

Jewish American Heritage Month celebrates the enduring heritage, culture, and contributions of Jewish Americans, while also recognizing the importance of standing against antisemitism, hate, and discrimination. Rabbi Chaim S. Rivkin will accept the proclamation at a later date.

Local Moving companies

Needing movers with a truck before end of month (I know I know) and looking for local owned recommendations

-Staying within 3 miles but technically crossing city lines
-We plan on having almost everything boxed but we can’t really handle the big furniture on our own
-leaving ground level unit to a place that has an upstairs

Time to explore the many bikeways in the Bothell area.

Bothell has been blessed with great access to prime protected bikeways separate from cars and traffic. The Sammamish River, Burke Gilman and Eastrail are premier trails that puts us instantly into a stress-free green environment similar to a national park.

On Sunday, I took a bike trip south from Bothell to the center of Totem Lake commercial district (about 40 minutes/7.6 miles). Traveling South from Bothell Landing Park along the Sammamish River trail until I got to 145^(th) Street/Woodinville – took a right turn and then within a minute a left (traffic light) at the entry point to the Eastrail bikeway heading South. It’s not paved but still a quality crushed/very fine cinder pathway that takes you to Totem Lake District.

You can take rest stops at the Hollywood Wine District, Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, the Sammamish Agriculture district and the Totem Lake Commercial district. I took some photos along the way, but they don’t represent the great views available to those take these bikeways.

From Totem Lake travel further south on the Eastrail a few miles will take you within a few blocks of the Downtown Kirkland waterfront. Go further south on the Eastrail to the Highway 520 bridge/bike trail over Lake Washington to the University of Washington Main Campus/stadium.

Apartments in Bothell for poor credit

Hello!

I am looking to move to Bothell and I’m unfamiliar with Bothell and apartment complexes in the area.

I have no rental problems (been in current place 8 years, no late rent, etc.) but I do have poor credit. (Right below 600). It’s making it hard to try and find a place, any recommendations for apartments that I could possibly get into? I can afford $2500 a month in rent (my current rent where I live).

Any advice on housing? My partner and I are moving to the area. We are looking for two bed two bath preferably 900sq+ for under 3200 a month. Also how is the commute to Redmond? (We would prefer a garage and yard space or a house but not a dealbreaker)
Thank you :)

Farmer Markets and Events Downtown Bothell?

Hello! Moved recently to the area and was wondering if there's a farmer's market you all would recommend? I know occasionally there is a maker market in downtown but that doesn't seem to be a weekly thing.

Also, does the pop up dog park in the park have a date for opening?

I subscribed to the city texts for events - looking forward to exploring!

Photos of Wayne Park in Bothell. Can you find the hidden tree swing?

Yesterday I rode my bike along the Sammamish River/Burke-Gillman bikeways and decided to rediscover Wayne Park – an 89 acre now nature preserve/used to be an 18-hole golf course. A great asset in Bothell full of trails, trees, streams, bridges and hillsides. It offers a wilderness feel without having to travel a long distance.

Attached are some quick photos I took at the park. I do have a challenge for future visitors. Can you find the hidden rope swing attached to an old tree (photo # 4)? Didn’t know about it until I accidentally discovered it hidden inside the canopy of a large tree. You can’t see it from the trails. A clue is that it's located near the front part of the park. If you are bringing kids, challenge them to find it.

One does not simply drive under I-405 next weekend...

TRAFFIC ALERT: One does not simply drive under I-405 next weekend. Continued construction at the I-405/SR 522 interchange includes a full weekend closure of East Riverside Drive/Northeast Woodinville Drive in Bothell. Here's the details:

Starting at 10:00pm Friday, May 15, u/wsdot will close East Riverside Drive/Northeast Woodinville Drive under I-405 in Bothell in BOTH directions, reopening by 4:00am Monday, May 18.

We know these closures aren’t ideal. u/wsdot needs to safely and efficiently complete ramp removal work in the area, which isn’t possible with the road open. However, the Sammamish River Trail will remain open.

What you need to plan for: Expect significant delays. Drivers should follow official signed detours and avoid cutting through neighborhood streets. Signed routes are coordinated to help keep traffic moving and help preserve access for people who live and work in Bothell. Local access will be maintained for residents. Plan ahead and allow for plenty of extra time.

For full details on the schedule, detours, ask questions or provide feedback, visit WSDOT’s website: https://wsdot.wa.gov/construction-planning/search-projects/i-405sr-522-vicinity-sr-527-express-toll-lanes-improvement-project

Aloha Car Wash on 527

Drove by the car wash today on my way to Sprouts and saw an insane amount of fire trucks, ambulances, and cop cars.

Since I was driving I didn’t get to full scope it out, but driving home I saw even MORE ambulances driving towards the scene.

Anyone know what happened? Praying that everyone is ok.

Short-Term Housing – Everett / Lynnwood / Bothell / Marysville

My wife and I are desperately seeking temporary housing in the Everett area. My wife is medically separating from the Navy after a serious emergency. I separated from the Navy on March 27th and moved up from San Diego so I could take care of her, but her separation process has taken much longer than expected.
We’ve been stuck in hotels and Airbnbs for the past 6 weeks spending 800 a week on housing. We’ve burned through all our savings and are now surviving week-to-week by DoorDashing. We can afford up to $1,700/month in rent, but the high move-in costs (deposit + first/last month) are impossible for us right now. We’re running out of options and will soon have nowhere to stay.
The Navy has not been able to provide any housing assistance during this transition, and we’ve exhausted every military and civilian resource we could find.
We’re not looking to settle here permanently — we just need a short-term bridge (private room, basement, mother-in-law unit, or flexible rental).
If anyone in the Everett/Lynnwood/Bothell/Marysville area has a flexible option or can help, please message me. Thank you.

DUCKLING RESCUE! Yesterday afternoon, our Public Works crews responded qu(a)ckly after a group of ducklings were stuck in a storm drain near a local retention pond. Jerry, Haedyn, and Luke from our Storm Operations team tracked the flock down and used their experience to gently and safely remove the ducklings from the drain and reunite them with their family. What could have been a fowl situation turned into a happy reunification, showing the same care for local wildlife that our crews bring to our community every day. We bill that as a good job done!

Hello everyone! This is my first Reddit post. My amazing, on-the-spectrum, heart-of-gold, animal-loving daughter has made the Top 5 of Colossal's Jr. Ranger contest. There are SO many deserving kids competing for the top prize. Congrats to everyone who has made it this far.

Emilia had a tough time when she first started school, but with her "never give up" attitude and amazing teachers, she has come a very long way and is now thriving in elementary school.

She sure would appreciate your support and vote! Thank you.
