Non-Fiction Audiobook for a Couples Road Trip

Hello all,

I am going on a road trip with the husband and am looking for a good audiobook to listen to that we can both be interested in.

I am looking for non-fiction audiobooks

The more niche the content, the better, honestly.

We both really enjoy video games and psychology.

We're foodies, and we love history and politics (well, we dont love politics, but we enjoy learning about them).

Thank you for any and all suggestions ahead of time!

I hope yall are having the best day!

In a book rut, need some help!

Been slowly turning the pages of the last few books I’ve picked up. Has truly been a slog. I typically gravitate towards mystery or thriller books but I am open to trying whatever! I will take any suggestions! What are the best books you’ve picked up recently? Have you read anything that you simply couldn’t put down and read through the night? That’s what I miss. Send me your favorites!

Books with interesting female leads?

I hate to say it, but I keep reading books where the women are v boring. I want complex personalities. My favorite books for female leads would be Throne of Glass series both Celaena and Manon. Also Vin from Mistborn. I’m honestly not even looking for fantasy or romance, just something with a female lead that is smart, dynamic, and gives no fucks, you know? Someone I’d admire.

Any recs?

I am interested in this debate between conservatives and progressives

Guys l am not American but l really like its culture and everything related to that especially the diversity of opinions and perspectives when it comes to a lot of issues, anyways as the title says l am at this moment interested in this debate between conservatives and progressives and l desperitely need book suggestions about this topic specifically about progressiveness and anything that would open my eyes, Thanks
I have to add that l usually don’t like the bestselling books or the wildly famous ones because they tend to be superficial, l want something deeper and critical

Books about talking cats

Currently reading Kafka On the Shore and I realised how much I love cats being actual characters. I also realised that some of my favourite games also include cats as actual characters (fran bow, stray) Are there any books out there from the perspective of a cat or just about talking cats? Kind of a weirdly specific thing to ask of but I just really like cats.

What is a book that explains people's unethical behavior?

I just read a book called Careless People, which does a good job of explaining numerous unethical actions by Facebook's senior leadership, as told by someone who worked there. On the last page, the author said something that really struck me: "They [Facebook senior leadership] just didn't lose any sleep over it." While this was a great book, I wish the author had considered why, beyond the few sentences scattered throughout the book about their greed, newfound power, and isolation from the rest of the world.

Essentially, the book made me ask: Why do so many people not care about their unethical behavior? I want to know what these types of people's internal logic is, because it is hard for me to think that most people who are what we would consider evil know they are the bad guy, and wholeheartedly embrace the label.

Examples of books that could help answer this question: fiction books that expound on the villain's perspective, psychology books that examine why people act unethically, philosophy books about human behavior, etc.

Thanks!

Looking for book Recs.

Okay, this is kind of specific, but I’m looking for book recommendations where the daughter moved out to find herself and is kind of the black sheep/screw-up of the family. She has to come back home for whatever reason and still feels like a failure, but then she meets a guy who helps her realize how amazing she is, and they fall in love. Also this my first time using Reddit so sorry if I did this request wrong. 😆

Botanical horror book recommendations?

Hi I’m looking for books like Don’t Let The Forest In by CG Drews but would like something adult rather than YA. Or really well written YA that feels like it borders on being adult is fine too but nothing that feels “teenager-like”. Would love it to be queer too but not a must

Looking for my next book

I don’t know what category this would fall under but I just read Yesteryear and Social Creature and I want a book similar that has all or some of the following: social climbing, inauthentic social media, fraud/scamming, little bit of murder or mystery, a general sense of seemingly rich happy people online not actually being perfect and happy
I wonder why I’m seeking that out 🧐😅

Easy read for postpartum mom

Baby boy is two months old and loves contact naps and being rocked to sleep. My husband has been using my Kindle when he puts him to bed and now I’m jealous ha. I’m finishing Wild Side by Elsie Silver. I used to read a lot of Elin Hilderbrand in the summer. I have a higher stress job that requires a lot of brain power so I like to be able to escape and shut my brain off. (Hubby reads non fiction war novels 😵‍💫). Right now I’m watching New Girl. So you get an idea of my brain and emotional capacity. Not a huge fan of fantasy.

Any feel good easy reads that you wont be totally thrown off if you have to put down all the sudden because your newborn wakes up? Thanks y’all 🤍

I'm reading Catch and Kill now by Ronan Farrow. About Harvey Weinstein. Can you recommend an investigative book like this? Where the writer is being trailed / stalked and the stakes are high as they are developing the story.

I only read non-fiction, and it's all written in a sort of historical past tense. For example, some World War 2 stuff. The author wasn't even alive for WW2. Or some white as fuck European person writing about what happened in Afghanistan in 1842.

This is the first book I've read where the writer develops the story as they are experiencing it in real time, and they sort of become part of the conspiracy.

Basically something like: "I decided to write this story and then somebody tried to silence / assassinate me. Here's how it happened in real time."

I'm not even finished the book. I'm about half way through but when I finish it I want more page turners like this.

Old romance books

Hey! So I am looking for an "older" romance book. By older, I mean anything before 2005.

I dislike basically 100% of books that come out these days, especially the romance novels that come out these days.

I feel authors 20+ years ago genuinely were just better at writing, but we can chalk that up to my personal preferance.

It can be spicy or not. I am not particular.

The only romance novel I have liked at this point is Time Travelers Wife because it was so real, outside of the time traveling part 😂

Any suggestions?
