Dangerous E-Bike/Scooter Riding
Over the past two years I’ve watched a growing number of E-bikes, e-motorcycles, and e-scooters operated both dangerously and to my knowledge illegally in our area. From neighborhoods to parks and trails, it’s a similar story.
I’m most concerned with a growing number of kids riding these bikes without knowledge of (or at least not following) the rules of the road. I’ve seen kids as young as 7/8 operating an electric motorbike without parent supervision. Most teens are not wearing helmets and I’d estimate are exceeding 20-25 mph, often with others as passengers.
I don’t want to be the guy who calls them out and has my whole community up in arms, but I also don’t want to see someone get severely hurt. In particular I’ve seen many instances of kids riding on the wrong side of the road and then blowing through one way stop signs. It feels like just a matter of time…
Any suggestions for constructive dialogue with parents and perhaps the kids to encourage safer bike use?
PedalPgh 2026
It is a shame that PedalPGH is only doing two courses (not counting the 10mi kid route) and no 62mi. Also the 25mi and 53mi are the same old routes. Why non expand the routes a little past the city limits? I have done this every year for the past 10 years but it is getting old doing the same route. Hell, Erie does a weekend of bike rides with their Cyclefest event and changes it up.
How respond to dangerous pass then being called a f*g by the driver
The driver passed me within a foot going down a hill and then proceeded to slow down and roll down the window. I said you're wrong. He said f you you're wrong. Then speeds away and called me a f*g. Can we film these people and report them? I don't want to shrink but last summer I let people like this win. I was too intimidated to bike. I started biking two days ago and two people have done two unnecessarily dangerous passes as, one person called me an a hole, and another just did that. Is it this city or what's going on with these rabid drivers?
Does anyone have a spare bike?
As the title says, I’m reaching out to see if there was any riders who had an older bike laying around that they weren’t using or they could part with?
I posted some months ago about my bike being stolen from outside of my apartment, and sadly I couldn’t track it down. Typically I would not post something like this, and would try to afford a new one, but right now that’s a little rough for me to do so, and it’s not something I’m comfortable getting into.
Or if anyone knows where I can get a bike for cheaper than retail prices right now? I don’t use Facebook, so I don’t check the marketplaces and the impression this subreddit left on me about cyclists really stuck with me, so figured I’d at least ask here.
Edit:
Thank you everyone for your feedback, suggestions, and offers. I am in the process of now reaching out to those that offered, and wanted to say 'Thank you' genuinely. I apologize I didnt respond sooner to these, as I sent that right as I was going into work and had a long night after and just couldnt properly respond.
I'm going to close the post, but again, thank you all so very much!
West Liberty sidewalk (Beechview) already getting overgrown, trash strewn
A subject I've posted about before, but "here we go again" in terms of the sad, lonely stretch of sidewalk that is technically Beechview (although seems to exist as a liminal 'Burgh space, to a degree). I reached out to Coghill's staff back in late March when it started to get overgrown, and also submitted a 311 request, but as you can see, it hasn't been touched. In the last few years, what typically happens is that this stretch, between Dawn and Brookside, is left to worsen until fall -- last year, it was late October or early November before it was mowed. There is also quite a lot of debris along this patch, including small sized branches, garbage, and in front of the first set of billboards (which appear to be on City of Pittsburgh property) an abandoned car or truck wheel. Ultimately, I assume I have the least "standing" to complain, as I'm not a City resident, I only use this sidewalk for "recreational" purposes (i.e., on my rides HOME FROM the City and Gap Trail, among other destinations) (just editing to clarify that I use the street when coming into the City), and I do not have any mobility limitations. However, if anyone has any thoughts on how we might get the City to be a little more proactive here, I'd love to hear them (and perhaps the answer is that the City has a lot on its plate, and this isn't a huge priority, and it is probably just going to continue to get the once a season treatment, which would be disappointing, but understandable).
Someone stole my saddle and post last night…
I knew it was gonna happen eventually, but I am still disappointed.
Let me know if anyone knows where to find someone trying to sell it. (checking facebook and craigslist now)

Conemaugh?
I am looking into transit accessible bikepacking routes and was impressed at the distance the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, the West Penn Trail and the Ghost Town trail roughly cover jointly. They look like with a little road riding they could be easily joined.
Would it be crazy to train to downtown or Greensburg, connect the trails to Ebensburg and then catch the train back east in Johnstown? Anyone done anything like this?
I am selling my bicycle. This is an excellent gravel bike from State Bicycle. it is in great condition, well maintained, not much use. I am selling it because it is just a bit too large for me. It comes with the rear rack. There is a small scratch on the head tube from a handle bar bag with metal clips. Well maintained. Willing to negotiate a price. Located in the northside.
Brand: State
Model: 6061 Black Label
Size: Large (58cm)
Wheel Size: 650B
Pedals: State Flat Trail
Rear Rack: Old Man Mountain
Bike rack and routes map
Hey everyone, I just moved to Pittsburgh to finish my undergrad at Pitt. I’m living in the north shore area for some context.
Anyone have good routes to and from campus?
I’m also worried about finding bike racks, is there a map of the bike racks in the city?
Hey everyone! I work in Oakland, and looking for a commuter route from the East. I'm coming in from Rt 30, but willing to park anywhere and ride in. Does anybody have any recommendations? Not trying to be picking, but free parking in a lot/park would be ideal. I park in Schenley now, but looking to get a little bit more miles in.
I am torn between these two bikes as i am getting both with just $50 difference in pricing. I have a dedicated mountain bike for trails. I will be using my gravel bike mostly on pave paths and occasionally on light gravel. I will be putting 35c on it. Like to ride slightly upright and relaxed for longer distances 60Km+. Any recommendation which one to go for in terms of better components and value? I will not be upgrading bike by any means and will keep stock except changing the tires to 35c.
Hey all - hoping for a lil help. I live in the south hills and our only bike shop other than pro bike run closed a few months ago. The closest shop is Thick bikes and I do love them a lot but I'm lazy and time short. Anyone operating a mobile mechanic bike shop? I'm open to legit businesses or moonlighting style folks. I have a bubble in a brake line and it needs service and a few different bikes that need derailleur adjustments. I know I can do this stuff myself but would love to get it done soon so we can get back to riding.
Have to go to work tomorrow, co-worker said I should be able to shimmy across the marathon rout at crossings when there's no runners, just checking to see everyone's experience with this. The only part of my normal route that is shut down is Liberty. I should be there around 8:30, before the first runners are even there, so maybe I can just blast down the road?
Alternatively, would it be better to just take the Jail Trail down to the Point and then continue on to the Strip?
today. Warmed up with my waterfront ride and got back to Eliza Furnace in time to spin for a bit with Give Up. Good people, chill ride.
Hey everyone! Given the gas prices and my disposition towards car centric infrastructure I plan to start taking a bus to work and biking from my stop to the office. I’ve never been much of a biker though and don’t know any of the intricacies if what I should be looking for in a commuter bike in terms of brands, features, and size. I’m about 6’3 and I’ve seen some differing information on what size bike I should get as well so any input from you all would be incredibly helpful. My budget is about 150$-200$ range.
Got an E bike unable to transport to shop. Any mobile mechanics around Moon? Pro bike & Run said no because don't carry brand.
