This is a funny take. On the one hand, you can see that Germany is starting from a different place (healthcare, childcare etc wayyy better than in US). But its also true that I don't think there is any party here that is really willing to take on a left-wing muslim candidate. Ferat Koçak is maybe the closest we get - but even there, I feel like he's fighting against his own party half the time.

But who *do* we think is going to be the next mayor of Berlin?

Me (28M) currently living in Berlin, need help/guidance.

I’m currently in a bad position where I rely Bürgergeld. Some background, in September I became homeless. Then ended up being treated a psych ward in Berlin for 6 months. I’ve been discharged, and a follow-up treatment is already planend for me. I’m also working with the jobcenter to get specialized qualifications for a part-time job. My goal is to study in October. This is what my case worker at the jobcenter wants for me.

I have a very clear long-term path, which is hospital treatment, then out patient treatment, part-time job, and then university.

My problem is the current situation, and I don’t know how to overcome it.

Right now I got 3 euros on my back account. Normally, since I get Bürgergeld, I can get an advance of 100 euros. Meaning, I get 100 Euros paid out early, and my Bürgergeld is reduced by 100 Euros. That is not possible for this month, because I applied for such an advance last month.

I currently live at a homeless shelter where I can’t cook. That’s a shame, because I love cooking, and during my time as a student I managed to live off of 350 Euros.

I went to a few soup kitchens, but the environment is triggering. I’m amongst other homeless people, and that brings back memories I want to avoid. Additionally, I’m slowly starting to realize that my 6 months at the psych ward were traumatic. The hospital is in Berlin Zehlendorf (a wealthy district of Berlin), but it’s a total shit show. The way I was treated by the doctors, staff and psychologist was very dehuminazing. I attempted self deletion 3 times because of them, and I got punished for it.

Right now I’m hurting, but there is an off ramp. I just don’t have the strength anymore, and I don’t know what to do. I just wanted to get this off my chest. I can’t wait for October, but I need some strength to get through this current moment…

Which area do you think is really up and coming, or will be the next place to be?

There used to be a time when Prenzlauer berg was the hippest area in Berlin. Kreuzberg and Neuköln have been a favorite of the hipster crowd for a while now, but may be a bit over the hill, maybe becoming a bit too gentrified.

I personally feel like Wedding has had this potential for years, but never really fulfilled its promise. It also seems like Akazienkiez in somewhat 'forgotten' Schöneberg is being discovered by more and more (young) people, and might be one of the new 'places to be' (for better or for worse).

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Around 16.45pm I was driving down Straße des 17. Juni past Tiergarten and saw a spontaneous Police Operation where there were many police officers loading special guns and pointing them into the park and running in.

About 15 minutes later there was a police helicopter plus many more police vehicles on the roads.

I can't find anything about this online and am so confused at what I witnessed.

Does anyone happen to have information about this incident?

Is there still the flea market at Ostbhanhof on Sunday mornings?

Nicht nur hier auf Reddit, sondern auch an anderer Stelle könnte man das Gefühl bekommen, dass dieses Thema den politischen Diskurs bestimmt. Wenn ich mir beispielsweise die Plakate der AfD und CDU anschaue, dann wird dort hauptsächlich damit geworben, dass sie dafür sorgen werden, dass man uns nicht das Auto wegnimmt. Auch hier auf Reddit wird das immer mal wieder hochgekocht.

(Dass der CDU tatsächlich nicht mehr viel anderes einfällt ist ein ganz anderes Problem, soll aber hier nicht Thema sein.)

Ich habe vor ein paar Monaten schonmal nachgeschaut und es hat sich auch nicht so viel geändert: zum 10.03.2026 gab es etwas mehr als 20.000 Unterschriften für das Begehren. Bis zum 08.05.2026 müssen ca. 174.000 Unterschriften vorliegen.

Niemand geht aktuell davon aus, dass das auch nur ansatzweise erreicht wird.

Es ist selbst für viele Befürworter einer Verkehrswende ein viel zu radikaler Vorschlag. Wenn sich in der angeblich völlig wohlstandsverwahrlosten linksgrünen Hauptstadt nichtmal 1% der Bevölkerung für so etwas mobilisieren lassen muss man wohl oder übel der Wahrheit ins Auge blicken: wir sind bei weitem nicht so gespalten, wie man es manchmal denken könnte.

Die allermeisten Menschen sind für Maß und Mitte bei den allermeisten Dingen. Leider ist die sehr sehr laute Minderheit einfach medial völlig überrepräsentiert. Und da ist mir jetzt mal ganz egal, um welche „Seite“ es da geht.

Seht ihr das auch so? Oder sehe ich das falsch und es ist eigentlich eh den meisten klar, dass es grundsätzlich so ist und mit diesem Volksbegehren jetzt eben auch.

Schön, dass hier so lebendig über den Volksentscheid diskutiert wird, aber denkt auch daran, zu unterschreiben!

As you might have noticed, cherry blossom season is in full swing. I really like to enjoy nature’s beauty, including blossoming cherry, apple or any other trees, as seemingly do many others as well.

However, there’s one thing that is really setting me up about this situation:

I’ve come across several people ripping off totally healthy flowers or even break off entire flowering branches. For several reasons, this really pisses me off!!

- Flowers provide nurture for many insects, including honey bees, which we all like and which nature desperately needs.

- Ripping off flowers or even entire branches is unhealthy and stressful for the plants.

- Many flowers will later turn into delicious fruits, which we also enjoy

- Ripping off flowers is highly anti-social behavior because instead of leaving it for everyone to enjoy, one person will just take it for his/her own joy.

I thought that any adult human being, even with a below-average IQ or level of empathy should realize this. However, this is obviously not the case.

Thus, I’d encourage everyone to:

1. not rip off healthy flowers or entire branches

2. address anyone you see doing so directly by criticizing this kind of behavior.

Erst einmal:
Ich hab' kein Auto, fahre Fahrrad, wohne in Neukölln. Bin kein Fan von Autos in der Stadt und ab und zu schau' ich neidisch nach Paris, Barcelona oder in die Niederlande, wo Städte für Fußgänger und Radfahrer angenehmer sind als hier in Berlin. Berlin hätte da auch Potential was radikal besser zu machen.

Aber der Verkehrsentscheid, oh boy, der ist wirklich Mist. Autos im S-Bahn Ring prinzipiell verbieten, und Ausnahmen nur erlauben für 12 Fahrten im Jahr, für die dann eine Genehmigung online beantragt werden soll.

Es ist halt einfach peak realitätsfremd. Dafür werden die nie eine Mehrheit finden. Es ist so extrem formuliert, dass selbst Parteien wie die Grünen nicht wirklich dahinterstehen. Wirkt so, als hätten die Leute dahinter sich nicht wirklich darüber Gedanken gemacht, was mehrheitsfähig, umsetzbar und Chancen auf einen Erfolg hat, sondern halt einfach ihre eigenen Ansichten stur zu Papier gebracht. So bekommt man aber keine Verkehrswende gebacken, das stößt Leute eher ab. Du kannst ja ner Familie, die außerhalb vom Ring wohnt und sich gerade ein Elektroauto gekauft hat nicht verklickern "Hey Pech gehabt, mit dem Auto dürft ihr in 4 Jahren nicht mehr zur Arbeit fahren, schmeißt das mal wieder weg und fahrt mit dem Rad zur Arbeit haha".

Glaube diese Initiative bringt im Endeffekt nichts Positives und die CDU kann sich bis zur Wahl, die ja am gleichen Tag wie der Volksentscheid stattfindet, noch einige große Schnitzer erlauben und bekommt von den Leuten mit Autos trotzdem ihr Kreuz.

Was ist eure Meinung dazu?

Berlin werbefrei hingegen gönne ich Erfolg, die haben ein gutes Anliegen und das so wunderbar moderat formuliert – Werbung bleibt grundsätzlich erlaubt, nur die wirklich nervigen Formen wie Baugerüstwerbung und Riesenbildschirme sollen verboten werden.

Am Griffband steht: "HAYS Recruiting experts worldwide".

How often are the horizontal signs on the road being refreshed/repainted? Honestly, during the rain today I could see sh*t while driving, no lane separators, no stop lines, people all around just winging it and doing weird zigzags while turning... It's freaking dangerous, and yet seems like a norm throughout the last years.

Is it possible to report these somewhere/somehow? If yes, would that even make a difference?

I have a medium sized shoe rack that is about 120cm high and 60cm wide. The shoe rack is broken and cannot be fixed, so giving it away for free on Kleinanzeigen/Facebook is not an option. I would like to dispose the furniture but I am quite sure I can’t just leave it next to the Müllkasten. What options do I have?

Where I come from, there is an online service that takes your stuff away for free regardless of the condition. Is there something like that here? Or do I have to bring it somewhere, where it can be picked? Or anything else?

Ich suche nach Bars in die nicht unbedingt jeder Touri reingeht und welche, die auch nicht zu teuer sind. Vorschläge?
