What makes Portland traffic fatality rate so high?

What makes Portland traffic fatality rate so high?

I wouldn't have expected Portland to be here but there it is. Why is it so high? Is Portland filled with highways or something else that's dangerous? Do they have high speed limits? Poorly designed roads? A weird city layout? What is going on that this chart is missing?

Traffic fatality rate per 100K people

Would 3 people be able to live (somewhat) comfortably in Portland with a combined total of 97K a year?

Assuming that the 3 were roommates, had no college debt, paid off cars, and none of them planned to have children. I realize this is a fairly niche set of circumstances, but most discussions of affordability in Portland (or any city, really) focus for good reason on either single living, or family living.

What do you think are the current and future food trends in Portland?

Definitely seen a few places doing their take on Taco Bell. Wondering what else seems to be trending.

Does anyone know of a reputable Private investigator? I’m being stalked and harassed with uncanny accuracy from a spoofed number with threats on my life. Police have been no help.

As the title says, I’m being stalked and harassed by someone since at least Jan 1st. They will text me things NO ONE should know unless they're watching me 24/7. I’ve taken every precaution with my phone/social media/etc. and the police can’t help, I’m hoping to find someone who actually can help me. Any help is greatly appreciated!

What would you do?

This man has been standing on the corner by my work for over 24 hours, stood there all night and day in the rain. I tried to talk to him but he doesn't want to talk much. I brought him a water, he said he doesn't want it but he appreciates the offer. I left it anyways. We called the non-urgent wellness check line and they have checked in on him but he refuses help.
Just feeling helpless and feel bad for him.

What are your favorite activity dates?

I have come to the conclusion that I don't especially like coffee/sit and talk type dates. I'm too awkward with new people, and while I'm okay with silence when it's people I have some familiarity with, having it occur during a first date is... pain.

So I kindof just want to exclusively do activity dates from now on, and I'm seeking suggestions. I know there's a mini-golf place in... St Johns? I think? And I consider wandering around antique malls a kind of activity. But what else? Is bowling too much of a commitment? Arcades sound fun, but I only really know Ground Kontrol, and I stopped going there years ago because it was always STUPID busy.

I know there's STUFF. Portland has like seventy ZILLION things to do at all times, it seems. So what are some you like, or would at least recommend as options?

Is there a good website for movie showtimes in Portland?

Do you know a good, comprehensive website that simply shows all the films playing in theaters on a particular date in Portland — including mainstream releases, arthouse stuff, festivals & one-time screenings or events? (Like at the Hollywood, Cinema 21, Tomorrow Theater, PAM, the Clinton, OMSI, etc.)

The EverOut film guide is excellent at listing upcoming festivals and special screenings in Portland. But its search function to “see movies playing today” isn’t optimal. Today it returns just two! (The Fog at the Clinton and Crumb at the Hollywood.)

For a national website, Fandango is decent but not comprehensive. Its Portland listings miss a few local theaters, plus some festivals and one-time screenings. Showtimes.com is similar.

At one time Google was good for this, but now eh not so much.

Portland has such a strong film scene! Every day there are probably well over 100 movie showtimes, including vintage and indie films. I feel like there must be a decent local listing site out there?

If not, I’ll just keep checking individual theater websites. Thanks, and (Roger Ebert voice) see you at the movies.

Best Places in Portland to Bring Out of Towners on a Weekday?

Howdy All,

I have friends coming into town next Monday and Tuesday and I'll have time to hang out with them after 4:30pm. What are the best evening time places to go for dinner or drinks that really embarrasses the spirit of Portland?

Thank you in advance!

Sports bar for NBA Playoffs?

Looking for a good sports bar (ideally in SE) to watch the NBA playoffs. It seems like it should be a pretty easy task, but somehow not so much. Every bar seems to show to soccer, and hockey and they usually won't change one of the channels to basketball even if there are tons of TVs.

I've tried Tom's, Bucket Brigade and Scoreboard (don't get me started on how scoreboard has gone down hill since they were bought last year) and a few others, but I'm wondering if there are any that are more reliable and are just a really good vibe for a basketball fan?

Thanks!

Closed Sandwich shop in Portland near Portland State and at the Airport?

I'm trying to remember the name of a sandwich shop I used to go to while attending PSU around 2009, there was also a location at the airport. Just a simple sub shop with fluffy bread. I think they went out of business - but I'm just curious and I can't remember!

What do you do in summer with old windows that don’t have screens?

For those who live in old houses with old windows that don’t have screens…are storm windows but with screens instead of glass a thing? Do you just open the windows without screens? Is there another option I’m not aware of?

Trying to weigh my options for summer. Thanks in advance!

What is the amount of rain Portland gets VS Central Florida?

Anyone here moved from central FL? One of the negatives I keep seeing about Portland is to expect lots of rain. I'm used to long stretches of rain. But whats the average amount of rain you guys get monthly?

Things to do on free evenings during work trip?

I'll be travelling for work next week and will have Tuesday 4/28 and Wednesday 4/29 late afternoon/evening free. I saw a potential game 6 against the Spurs and a Thorns game. Any live music spots? Cool bars to grab a drink? Must eat food spots? I will have a car if I need to get around, but I'll be in the Buckman neighborhood if there's anything walkable.

I've been to Portland a few times, but I'm open to suggestions.
