I transformed a $20 Amazon wig into a custom lacefront!

I work for a local theatre and had the pleasure of turning a $20 wig from Amazon into custom lacefront! Ventilating hairlines is probably my favorite part of wig making.

I used to wear wigs bc it was fun for dress up occasions. Now it’s just bc I don’t have hair (sigh)

A perfect storm of menopause, autoimmune issues, and emotional abuse had just about all of my hair falling out. I tried to make the best of it for a few years (denial, anyone?), but this January, it became obvious that a daily wig was now a must. That meant wearing a lot of platinum blonde for a while (which I didn’t hate, it just made me feel like I stood out and standing out for my hair wasn’t ideal). So recently, I treated myself to this beauty. Super close to my natural hair color, and really good quality, especially for the price ($90-ish from Amazon).
Setting it each morning was nerve wracking at first, but now it’s just “doing my hair”.☺️

In the picture, it’s pulled back in a ponytail - down, it’s 20”.

Co worker called wig out on Teams Meeting

Sooooo I'm feeling extra stressed to where I just don't want to go back to work.

I've only been wearing my wig less than a month. It's Belle Tress Brooklyn in triple chocolate.

On our Teams Meeting my co worker kept mentioning my hair which I ignored the first time. Then she said it again and said my hair looks so fake and perfect like a wig. I didn't know what to say, except thanks. Then she went on about it and everyone was focused on me.

It made me mentally spiral out and I started thinking about all in person glances and interactions with other staff.

I feel... stressed and ugly.

I thought I looked good...but I guess not. Most ppl thought i just had a new haircut.

Just looking to hear from other people on this sub. How you dealt with it when you got/get comments etc. I did panic buy a wig from hairvivi since they look more natural. 😵

Sorry if this post doesn't belong here, no idea who to talk to about this.

Edit Here's my first post with pics of me in this wig: https://www.reddit.com/r/Wigs/s/F0O4aVtl1h.

Edit 2: thank you all so much for the kind words and support. It really has helped. I was feeling so low when I wrote this post. Genuinely grateful for this sub. 🫶🏼🤗

Does this wig suit me? (My first 7x6)

I recently tried out a 7x6 and loved the low maintenance aspect. Do yall think this texture looks natural on me? As always I did wand curls but as the week went on I just did twist outs to keep the hair curly.

The tone and the melt is literally doing all the work

After melting like 10 wigs I’m finally starting to get the hang of laying lace 😭

I’ve been using the Ebin melting spray and spraying one layer under the lace + one layer on top before banding it down. And honestly… if the wig cap actually fits your head size properly, the lace lays SO much flatter and smoother.

The color on this one is really doing it for me too. The tone + the melt together just make the whole install look way more natural imo 😩

Finally got up the nerve to wear out in public

After losing nearly all of my hair, I bought 5 wigs. I couldn't get them right, even after watching YouTube videos for hours. I finally just said F it and decided to wear it to a family event. My teenage daughters said its clockable but at this point, I am not sure what else to do. It still looks better than my tiny bit of bio hair. If you have suggestions, hit me.

Details: Brandy 01 by Nel's Wigs with customizations (light thinning and wispy bangs/baby hairs added).

Need help to make the lace more invisible

Hi!

I bought myself my first Hairvivi wig, finally trying it.

To do a little review, it looks amazing right now, let's see in a few months. But it was smelling perfume soooo much, I just had to wash it because I couldn't wear it. But it looks more natural without the huge brushing at least.

But the lace looks a little bit too dark, and it doesn't really hold perfectly. I want to give a little help to the lace in front so it doesn't move.

I'm wearing synthetic wigs for years, with got2be glue but I had to wash the lace regularly to remove the glue. I don't want to do the same with this expensive wig and I don't think it needs a glue as strong as this one. Will melting spray be enough? If yes, which one? And how do you remove it without washing the wig?

And if you have tips on the color of the lace, I can take it too.

Thank you!

Edit: for more details, I will wear it 4-5 days a week. I'm asking for "normal" days, I'm working at an office. I don't want to sleep with it.

My son got me a wig for Mother’s Day

I lost my hair because of an illness and ended up shaving it all off. About a month ago I casually mentioned that I really wished I could have my hair back someday, and apparently my son remembered that!

He surprised me with this wig before Mother’s Day. I loved it so much that I put it on immediately and made him take a few pictures of me lol

I included a photo of me without hair as well, but I put it as the second picture just in case that kind of thing makes anyone uncomfortable. I mostly just wanted to show the before and after.

I swear this wig had me matching the whole room’s energy lol 😭 The color is sooo good in person too, like warm but still soft??

Are we still feeling this braided wig style or nah?

Just got this unit and l love how it turned out! I sprayed some Ebin melting spray under the lace, banded it down for about 10 mins, and used a little foam while it was setting to smooth everything out.

Now it’s giving scalp-ish and I can’t stop looking at myself lmao. The braids also don’t feel as heavy as I expected, which surprised me.

What do y’all think though?

what do yall think about this color on me?

The sides of this wig irritated me so bad 😭 because there was barely any hair to work with but the color is what caught my eye from the beginning. For a synthetic wig it held curls really well. Thoughts?

Transformation! Self styled wig with "before" pics

My first attempt at styling a wig... Not a resounding success, but not a total loss either. I definitely learned a lot, lol.

My goal was to have a thin, light-weight, throw and go, no day-of styling needed. I did accomplish that! I just wish I knew then what I do now haha

Encounteru Wig Review (Amazon Finds)

So, I decided I wanted to try out being blonde for a bit. I went with Encounteru because its the brand of affordable synth wigs that im familiar with. I tried a different style (Body Wave) rather than the straight style I'm used too.

First off, out the package, dare I say the waves were TOO bouncy. I needed to run a hot comb through it to kind of tame the bounce and give it more of a wavey look. Need to run it through the hot comb every day while its on because it keeps bouncing back.

Luckily for me, the sides came all the way down to my sideburns, so I was able to secure the wig with lace tape on each end. For added security I used lace melting spray just to lay it down further.

Theres plenty of headspace with an added adjustable strap (that i personally remove or else the wig is too tight).

Overall, its a comfy wig! This is day 3 of wearing it (consecutively) and it hasnt bothered me once.

best human wig brands for a high-ish budget?

Hello! I’m looking for the best wigs/wig brands that are great quality. I have a budget of $1250, but if there’s any great wig brands that have wigs cheaper than that, that’d be great! I like my wigs to be about 20 inches long, and 200 density. Thanks in advance, y’all!

Feel like crying- what can I do to fix this?

I steamed three wigs tonight and have totally messed up the fringes on them. They are sticking up every which way.
The photo on the right is how it normally looks. I tried resteaming it but no joy. I wear this wig most days.

Help! Nice lace front on budget!

Ok, I have been wearing cheap wigs for years. I love long blonde or pink hair, but they don't stay in place well and they don't look natural.

I'd like to find a better quality wig and to learn how to properly install it. I want a lace front in the $50 range. Is that reasonable?
