Call offs

Just curious

How often do u typically call off each contract?

Do u try to avoid it at all costs?

Do u fake atleast one ?

Or all the time

Compact license and DUI in NJ

I live in NJ. I got a dui about 10 years ago. I was already a RN and never reported it to the BON because in NJ it is a traffic offense and it doesn’t come up on a criminal background check. I now want to travel and want to apply for a compact. Do I have to get fingerprints done and do they check driving record? Can the BON punish me for this?

I didn’t expect nursing to feel like this

When I got into nursing, I knew it would be tough , but I didn’t expect it to feel this exhausting mentally. It’s not even just the long hours. It’s the constant pressure, the responsibility, and the feeling that you can’t slow down for even a minute. Some days I leave my shift completely drained, not just physically but mentally.

I still love what I do, but I’m starting to wonder how people do this long-term without burning out Suggestions?

Job offer from another hospital while on a travel assignment?

I quit my staff job and took a travel assignment fully expecting to work it to completion until I found another staff job that I felt was a good fit for me. I mean, 16 weeks isn’t that long right? I applied to multiple jobs and went to interviews during this time and I did find a great staff job. However, they want me to start before my assignment is up. I plan on contacting my recruiter and giving my 2 weeks, but do I tell them the reason? Has anyone had this happen? What are the chances that they cut my travel contract themselves?

Ortho floor

Hello. Signed an auto offer (last time I’ll do that) for an ortho unit that was advertised as being mostly med surg tele (my actual specialty). Seems it’s pretty heavy on ortho patients. Anyone able to direct me to a sub or thread or website or YouTube channel or anything publicly accessible that would give me a good crash course into ortho specific pts? At least as it pertains nursing practice? I have post surgical experience, worked a year in an ENT, urology, plastics floor and did well. But ortho is a different beast. Pts are awesome so far tho. Thank you.

Non-bedside jobs that aren’t 9-5…?

7 years in, starting to feel the burnout. I’m not all the way there yet, but I’m seeing it form on the horizon. Thinking about the next step.

Before I was a nurse I worked nights and weekends in the service industry. Since I was 15. So I’ve literally never worked M-F 9-5 and I have actually zero interest in ever working a schedule like that.

Anyone know of a post-bedside life that doesn’t involve a M-F 9-5 work life? Thanks for the input friends.

Infojini Health

Just want to share for anyone who might be unsure about working with Infojini Health Recruitment—I’m an allied health professional, and so far they’ve been very helpful with getting my travel contract set up.

Everything has been smooth on the front end, and I’m looking forward to how the pay and onboarding process goes. Just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is considering them!

Advice? Not signing?

Hi yall! New travel nurse here- completed my second contract and looking at my third. I interviewed for a position and liked it, got an offer and th contract sent to me today. Now i’m having a ton of second thoughts with this, housing logistics in a busy city and I’m looking at assignments elsewhere that actually pay almost 500-800 more a week than this one. I feel like a really crappy person but has anyone decided not to sign after getting the contract? How bad is this?

Critical Access

Hey all. I would love some thoughts. I’m on in assignment in a critical access ER. 6 bed ER ( 2 “traumas”, 2 regular rooms, a triage room (which is used as regular) and a “psych” room (which is a regular room in the assignment. There are 5 inpatient rooms in the same little square. The closest big emergency room is about 40 minutes away.

What I’m finding is that most of the staff have only worked here, so no big ER experience. Nobody has TNCC, NRP or training in deliveries. However, they’ve had an increase in deliveries. Given that it’s a rural farming community, they also get their fair share of trauma worthy patients. Without any preparation or resources to care for this population. As a nurse with L&D and trauma experience, I was trying to go through supplies and policies to ensure that we’d be capable in the event. I guess my question would be, is it silly to try to help educate and ask for more resources for them to care for these patients? It is terrifying that none of them know how to resuscitate babies or even what tools to use in that scenario (CPAP etc). It’s almost fearful for my license to not have resources or emergency certified physicians.

Need advice

My 1st travel contract is over in 4 weeks. I told my recruiter I needed to off night shift. My mental health is shit. She kind of brushed me off and said “we don’t have any options right now”. So she asks about an extension. I say no. I cannot and will not do nights. Again she says we don’t have any day shift positions open.

I take matters into my own hand. I find a day shift contract at a level one hospital. I’m an ICU nurse but this contract is PCU. But it’s days and more money and at a hospital I want to work at.

So I accept this PCU position. My recruiter texts me a couple days later and said she can get me a days contract for an extension. I feel like I should have waited to see instead of panicking? I’m new at this.

For context, I came from a level one 24 bed high acuity icu that was non stop. This little icu is boring as hell and I’m taking care of sicker pts in their Pcu. There charting system is ancient (all scrips) and paging the doctors is an absolute nightmare. Even though it will be days, I just don’t think I can keep working with these ancient practices. I love chaos, I love being able to think and use my brain. I just feel like I’d be getting more in this PCU

do you think I’m making the right choice with doing a PCU contract instead? Will this affect my chances of getting a new ICU assignment? I’m still PRN at my level one to keep my skills up.

Housing Cleanliness

This may just be me being a brat, but does anyone feel like finished finder landlords just don't care about the cleanliness of their homes? I moved into one 3 months ago and there was still (opened) food in the fridge, some of which had expired. Crap crammed absolutely everywhere throughout the home, so there was no storage space.

I just moved again and threw out 2 trash bags full of expired, opened food. I'm talking 5+ years expired. Every surface I wiped down left my wipe/towel brown. There was rotten fruit on the bottom of the trash can. The walls and trim have black handprints and scuff marks all over them. The shower curtain smelled like straight up piss. I'm putting so much effort into cleaning all this, but feel like this is something that should have already been done.

I messaged the landlord about it and all they said was "sorry you had to take out the trash"

Is anyone else having issues or?

Quitting assignment after 3 weeks?

I’m at Banner Boswell in AZ and I’m working PCU. I want to quit because I was told the ratio is 1:4 when it’s really 1:5. I’m pretty flexible as my background is float pool but 5 pcu patients is too much since I’m always getting the heaviest patients. I know as a traveler you usually get the crappy assignment but it’s like they don’t even look at patient acuity and just assign you whoever. I’m mostly annoyed because every shift has been like this and then the staff nurses will only get 4 patients or ones not as sick and they’re on their phone scrolling most of the night while i’m running around. Despite this, i’m still willing to help others with their patients like you’re supposed to.

My question is, has anyone quit a Banner contract early and did you end up getting on the DNR list? that’s my biggest concern since I want to continue to travel in AZ and most facilities are Banner hospitals.

Work at Nomad? Need a Recruiter?

With the closing of Nomad Healthcare, I would love to chat with any nurse that is being impacted by this and needs a recruiter!

I focus on transparency with jobs and pay packages and always put my clinicians first. You’ll have a single point of contact (me!) and real support throughout your assignments.

As your recruiter, I’m fully invested in your success as a traveler and your future, not just your next placement! What matters to you matters to me, and I’m here to make the process as smooth as possible.

We’re vendor-neutral, which means we can work with facilities across the country and connect you to a wide range of job opportunities.

Please DM me and I am happy to talk more about traveling and what it would look like and dig further into the agency I work at!

*I am not sharing my agency's name in this post because I am unsure if it against the policy in this group. If it is not against rules I am happy to share, I am not trying to hide anything!!!*

I want out, any suggestions?

I'm ready to give up the ghost with nursing. It's simply abusive and I am DONE. I do not ever want to be an RN again in my life if I can help it.

with that said I also have bills.

any clues for NON NURSING professions that are comparable?

I don't want to drive truck over the road but I'm looking into electrician, plumbing and HVAC repair.

sounds stupid but I'm female so..idk if that would matter in those professions but I've been an RN for 16 years..I can indeed handle myself.
