Also did painless dent removal to get the grandma dents out, full reconditioning, and managed to find some original hubcaps on eBay. Beyond the CarPlay unit I’m trying ti keep it as original as possible. 129k miles.

I'm about to give up finding a bench seat model that's not completely clapped out

I'm about to sell my 2012 Honda Fit 5 speed because I am too tall for it (but love the car!). I'm praying to find a 2002-2004 model XL that isn't garbage that somebody has taken good care of. Does this unicorn exist?

The car feels too big

Coming from a 2004 Camry, into a 2012 Avalon. The Avalon feels too big. The seats are too wide. They're not supportive, they don't hug. I can't use both arm rests because the car is so wide. Feels like a heavy car to drive.

Does the feeling pass with time?

What gas do you use

I drive a 2015 Toyota Avalon XLE (nom-hybrid) I was wondering what gas everyone uses? I heard that 87 octane is fine and that using premium wouldn’t really make a difference since the engine is made to take 87 octane, any thoughts?

I live in California and I’m trying to get the most out of my MPG with these prices lmao.

I'm 6'-6" and I have a great 2007 Tundra that I take on trips because it has (much) better legroom than my 2012 Honda Fit 5 speed that I bought last year for 2 hour and under trips. I'm happy with the 32+mpg of the Fit, but I could possibly sell it to buy an Avalon in the $8000 neighborhood that would be much better for leg and headroom, I'm sure.

I haven't even sat in an Avalon, but I see some rare models have bench seats and column shifters. That seems it could be a really good alternative for me to drive around town while keeping mileage off the Tundra and getting 20+mpg.

What models would you recommend for me? I had a 2000 Solara convertible that was the best vehicle I've ever had before I bought my truck, so I know how dependable older Toyotas are.

Thank you so much for your recommendations and your help!

1998 Avalon XLS - FREEEEEEEEEE!!! 247k

born and raised SoCal friend moving to the other side 🙁 & 😳. but I said I’ll take care of it for you in case you ever come back, you can have it back of course!

anyways - 1998 Toyota AVALON XLS- 247k miles.

has quirks- driver handle broken,

gas latch broken & have to open trunk and reach right arm thru to gas latch and push up, and pull open the gas tank door from the outside with left hand. 2 handed operation.

needs shocks & or struts, lube?

back window have less and less chances of ever going back up with each time you roll them down(well pushing the electronic window buttons down and up)

AC- doesn’t work, have the part but won’t pass smog when it’s installed. So he said leave it out and get smogged, then put it back in.

ANY HELP-TIPS- CAN I do any if these things myself easy? Best YouTube-ers for Toyota Avalon’s?
where to get cheapest parts- easy fixes?

he said trans fluid was done recently when work was done on trans.

maybe brake fluid flush and or top off and brake pads.

AN-Y-THING ELSE - HELP! 🙈🤷‍♂️😂

Hello! I just purchased a 2019 Avalon XSE (71k miles). Has anyone noticed that the heated seats don’t warm up much? Both the driver and passenger seats are lukewarm at best.

If you change your own oil, or want to ensure good oil is available, buy some now. I stocked up 4 oil changes for my wife’s 24’ RAV4. I stocked up 8 oil changes for the 19’ Avalon. Group III base oil shortages are coming / here. Ordered 12 quarts of WS transmission fluid for drain and fill in 30K miles from now. I drive 2000-2200 miles / month. Just trying to ensure quality oils, keep my warranty and ensure long engine life. Anyone else notice supply chain issues?

2011 avalon drain and fill

I was swapping the radiator and because I was gonna lose some transmission fluid i decided to finally attempt my 1st drain and fill on any car in my life.

Its very nerve racking doing something new and I've aleays been told not to mess with stuff that aint broke.

After 15 years the gasket was like hard plastic. The fluid is black. To my suprise the magnets didnt have much metal on them. Very good sign.

You have to be very careful with the aluminum threads, even working them with a 1/4 hand driver i had one problem thread that I jad to mess with and swap bolts around. I used a torque wrench because the torque is so low.

After dropping the pan and replacing the filter and radiator my transmission took pretty much a gallon of new fluid.

At 1st I didnt put enough in so I filled more and drove the car on jack stands to go thru the gears. I actually got up to 40mph and let it shift thru all the gears and then finally had some come out of the drain plug and waited for it to come to a trickle before plugging it.

Shifted great on the test drive. Not sure if its placebo but I feel great about the car.

15 years old 80,000 miles btw

Hello everyone, my 2009 Chevrolet HHR got totaled this past March. I had to find another daily commuter because my Sequoia eats gas. I saw a 2018 Avalon with 25K miles,
but the dealership wanted $27K. I found this one with 88K miles for $17,995. The previous owner was an elderly woman who kept it in the garage. I paid $15,600. The Interior is nice for a 12 year old car. I hope to keep this car until the wheels fall off!

Plastic sounding scraping noise from driver side when going above 40mph.

2015 Toyota Avalon, and whenever I drive above 40mph there is a plastic sounding scraping noise that seems to be coming from the driver side. Any ideas?

2018 Avalon XLE with 120k miles and for $18,000 it might have been a bit expensive. I love it so far though!

Anyone know what this piece is called? 2020 TRD

This side panel piece that’s attached to the side duct vent came off my car. I took it to Toyota and they told me there was a kit that come with a pair (for both sides to be replaced) but they told me it was $480. So I’m wondering if this is my only option in replacing this piece. 2020 Avalon TRD

Random/inconsistent plastic sounding scraping when driving above 35mph+

Hi, I have a 2015 Toyota Avalon and ever since I bought the car in late March, there is an obnoxious plastic sounding scraping noise that seems to be coming from the driver side front. It’s very inconsistent and it occurs more often when driving at highway speeds. It is never heard when going below 35mph. Please help! Thanks!

Extra: With the car off during a really bad thunderstorm, I heard the scraping sound.

2012 Avalons Harsh Shifting

Just bought a 2012 Avalon with 168k miles. I have owned many Avalons before this, most of them
Being 3rd gens and one fourth gen hybrid. I feel like this one doesn’t shift so smoothly. I get some bucks and jerks and harsh shifts. Not every single time but maybe 50% of the time. Is this normal? Anybody else have this? If so, any solutions?

Elderly neighbor offered to sell me their 2011 limited with 180k miles for $2000. The car is mint

Inside and out, but no service records at all. They said there was never anything done at the dealer, but they were religious with oil and filter every 3k miles. They say no fluid changes or spark plug changes but had a BCM module done because it had a parasitic draw last month. I’m not doing a PPI because it’s inexpensive and I don’t want to offend them. I’m willing to take the chance.

What should I look out for, and what should I plan to take care of immediately?
