r/TheOrdinarySkincare

three years, nearly every product in the range tried at some point, here are my honest long term opinions bc i think long term reviews are more useful than first impressions:

products i have used continuously for over a year and would never stop:

hyaluronic acid 2% + b5 the best value product in the entire range in my opinion, applied on damp skin it genuinley plumps and hydrates consistently, nothing else i have tried at any price point does this as reliably

niacinamide 10% + zinc took patience, caused some initial congestion that scared me into stopping twice before i committed to six weeks, genuinley reduced pore appearance and improved skin tone after that

squalane underrated, i use it as an oil cleanser mixed with a balm cleanser, as a face oil in winter, as a hair treatment, as a cuticle treatment, the most versatile product i have ever owned

retinol 0.2% in squalane the best way into retinol for beginners, gentle enough that i never had significant irritation, the texture improvement after three months of consistent use is genuinley significant

products i tried and would not repurchase:

lactic acid 10%, too strong for daily use on my skin, 5% is better and gentler glycolic acid 7% toning solution, genuinley too harsh, disrupted my barrier within three weeks of use vitamin c suspension 23% + ha spheres 2%, the texture is too gritty and it caused sensitivity without visible brightening results

products i am genuinley neutral on:

the buffet, four months of use, neither helped nor hurt marine hyaluronics, nice texture, no obvious results over standard ha azelaic acid suspension 10%, helped a bit with redness, not enough to be a staple

keeping notes in skinpalai has been genuinley useful for forming accurate opinions on products bc memory over three years is not reliable enough, being able to look at what i was using and how my skin was responding at different points has helped me understand which products actually contributed to improvements and which ones i just liked using.

what are ur long term opinions on the ordinary products?

Hi. I’ve been reading about copper peptides’ efficacy for skin and hair growth.

But the hair peptides serum from Ordinary does not have copper peptides. It’s only the face one which does.

Does anyone here use the copper peptides serum on their scalp? Please share your experience and if it has led to any progress and improvement in hair thickness or growth.

Thanks

PS - I know I can buy injectable ghk cu online for scalp, but I want to start with something topical before I go to anything injectable.

i used the AHA/BHA peeling solution a few days ago and now this. is this a purge or a reaction? should i keep using the solution and what can i do to clear this up? it does itch a little bit, as well.

Bought the Squalane Cleanser for the first time. But when I used it a bunch of air came out and now the packaging feels half empty. The bottle now weighs 59 grams after using a pea sized amount once.
I'm thinking this might have been a production error where packaging didn't go correctly.

Could anyone check for me?

Edit: Mystery solved! They just don't fill it up completely. Love reddit for being able to help.

Been using the multipeptide serum for past 3 weeks now. I have observed that my hairfall has increased. Is it expected? The smaller ones are from the back of my hair.

I have pretty bad acne scars. Been using their Niacinamide for a while now.

I searched online and google says either the Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner or the The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution (but i cant find this on their website?)

Any recommendations?

I am very new to skincare, I started my journey around 4/5 weeks ago having only previously used face washes and miceller water.

I have always suffered with hormonal acne, mainly on my chin and jawline and sometimes in between my eyebrows etc. I really struggle to get it to ever go away. My dream is to have clear skin, so I’m trying to do all I can to look after my skin now.

This is my current routine, is there anything I should be using/anything I shouldn’t be using, or using to much or etc?

AM

Glycolipod cream cleanser

Anua milky toner

Niacinanide 10% + Zinc 1%

Balancing & Clarifying Serum

Salicylic Acid 2%

Moisturiser + HA

PM

Dermologica pre cleanse

Plus repeat above

My skin feels nicer to the touch, but I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference and I still cannot get these spots to shift, if anything I keep getting small ones popping up.

What am I doing wrong, or haven’t I given my skin enough time?

Hey y’all, I just opened my 3rd bottle of the ordinary milky toner because it is(or was) one of my favorite products in my routine. However once I opened up the new bottle I got this horrible rotten milk kind of smell and was 100% sure my bottle was an expired one or something but I have read some reviews and everyone says the same thing about how it stinks. I can swear my first 2 bottles never smelled that way.. I am just genuinely shocked does anyone know if they have changed the product maybe ? Or anyone with a similar experience ?

Thank you for your help

I'm trying to incorporate actives now that my skin barrier is nice and healed (I used to react to literally everything, even moisturizer/cleanser/sunscreen) but every time I try to design a routine I get stuck in a loop because eventually one thing can't be used with the others. I have rosacea so trying azelaic acid is very high on the list but it also seems to be incompatible with everything! I could not find a single toner that can be used with it!

I'm hoping to avoid retinols for now so I was thinking to try vitamin C (the suspension, same as the azelaic) plus the moisturizer with phytoceramides and the Milky toner. From what I've read online this should be okay, but the website says no (actually with some products, like the moisturizer, it says it can't be used with direct acids yet when I product match it says it's fine actually??). I was also thinking of the peptide under eye serum

Any advice would be hugely appreciated because I am literally going on circles!! 35F

Edit: silly mistakes like writing conditioner instead of moisturizer 😅

I just received The Ordinary AHA + BHA peeling solution and Niacinamide + zinc Serum from Amazon India. Neither their outer boxes or the glass vials themselves aren't sealed.

Is this common?

The other products Minimalist Retinol and Plum Vitamin C products came with proper box seals.

Is this the case because these are imported? How's it with other countries?

Thoughts on the azelaic acid for redness?

Have been dealing with redness for a while and have been wanting to potentially add some actives to help with it.

Currently, my skincare routine is pretty simple. Just cerave am in the morning and then glossier milk cleaner and tatcha purple at night

Ordinary anti aging products

Has anyone used the ordinarys products specifically to target elasticity/ wrinkles etc. ? If so, what products did you see results with? I’d also like to hear anyone’s experience with the ordinary Retinol serums

I've been using the serum every morning and night for rhe past 4-ish weeks consistently and I've noticed that my lashes look fuller. Also seen baby lash growth! Excuse my unfocused before photo

I constitently get little pustules all around my face, like little whiteheads, from products marketed toward restoring your skin „barrier“.

it’s the same with The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides, as well as nø cosmetics Barrier Moisturizer. I always thought that Ceramides or Barrier-marketed products are very tolerable to everyone.

I can throw on any skin care acid on my face but not the barrier products? seems so unlikely and puzzling to me.

I literally bought the toner a couple of weeks ago, looked like it always did (pinky/peach colored), and today in the store it was like clear liquid??

Same for the hyaluronic acid: purchased the 30ml version (with ceramides) in January and bought the 60ml today. Side by side the newer version looks almost yellow-ish. Is something wrong with my recent purchase? I'm confused lol.

I found a bottle of this oil on my storage shelf in my bathroom and I have no idea what it is or what it’s for. I remember buying it but how long ago is a mystery as to what it’s for does.

heeyyyyyyy. help. i started using volufiline under my eyes. wash face, adapalene, moisturizer, volufiline. adapalene is not put under my eyes. day one, fine. day two and three, it burns for a few minutes. is this normal? is it like, a “its working” burn, or a “for the love of god stop putting that on your face” burn? I’ve never gotten sensitive skin or allergic reactions to anything. anyone else experience this or have insight? thaaaaaaaanks
