Sufficient security measures?

Howdy y'all,

Recently acquired a tear drop camper and I have gotten a bit concerned with security when out and about with it. Most of my camping will be done in national forest. Storage at home I'm not as worried about as much given the setup and home and that there are better things to steal IMO.

Hitch lock

Single wheel lock

Removed wheel

Chain hitch to tree

1 motion activated light on each side, 4 total.

Vibration alarm

GPS tracker

Fake camera overlooking hitch

Stickers warning of gps tracker/camera etc

This is maybe overkill but my line of thinking is that a targeted theft is likely going to go through it with. More likely at home than just a crime of opportunity as someone driving past it in the woods. Obviously won't 100% prevent it but the hope is to make it more difficult and time consuming as the trailer next to mine.

Is there anything obvious that I am missing that could do instead of or in addition too?

Making Progress on my Teardrop trailer!

Here is my progress on my teardrop. I bought a used arrow board traffic control trailer that had the lights cut off already then I sanded it down, painted it and put new fenders on. Then started framing it out! I can't keep focused and I keep bouncing from 1 thing to another but it's all in the right direction haha. Not even close to finished and I'm already talking about building another one.

I wanted to share because the one that was posted here today felt super similar and I visioned a lot of my components the same its even a similar shape. I planned the ventilation, water tank, and propane on the sides same as he did. It was cool to see one close to mine finished and in use!

How do people like their outdoor kitchens?

My wife and I have a 1 year old so getting out the door is harder than it used to be. We are ready to ditch our tent and get a small camper we can tow with our 3,500 lb limit. My vision is to minimize packing and setup since the camper will be our bed and store our gear bin/folding chairs, etc. We both love the idea of an outdoor kitchen to keep us outside and be able to just pop the kitchen hatch and have our kitchen ready to go. As opposed to setting up a table, wash station, cooler, etc.

What I am finding is that it is very hard to find small camper that can also fit our son in his own bed that ALSO has an outdoor kitchen. The T@b 320-CS is close but they dont make it anymore and most models I come across have a bathroom taking up all the space. The newer models opt for a dinky indoor kitchen that I can't even stand up in. There are so many awesome tear drop campers but our son really needs his own bed. We might have to settle for a Scamp/Casita style camper but really hate the idea of letting go of the outdoor kitchen vision.

So with so few options out there, is the outdoor kitchen just not that good?

Parking Query

Hello,

I'm brand new to teardrops and towing. I'm hoping to get some advice on whether it's possible to back a trailer into my tight townhouse parking spot. I don't know anyone close to me with a teardrop or small trailer to try, but if friendly people on the internet think it might be possible, then I'll get a hitch installed and rent one to see! I've tried to make the image as close to scale as possible; my car is a Rav 4 (15' long), and the teardrop will be ~ 11' long. The parking spot is 10' wide and I have ~50' between the end of my parking spot and the house

The whole driveway/parking lot is on a slight hill down towards the cars. I'm thinking I'll drive forward down past the parking lot entrance, back into the lot, and then try to maneuver the trailer as close as I can to my spot, maybe using a trailer dolly to get it in its final position - though maybe that's not safe with the downhill slope?

I have a backup plan for a permanent storage site, but I will be doing some work on whatever teardrop I buy and would ideally be able to park it here occasionally.

Thank you for any helpful advice!

Update: thank you r/teardroptrailers! So many helpful responses. I now have the confidence to give it a try!

Questions about skinning a squaredrop trailer

Hi all, I'm builing a squaredrop trailer and struggling to find the right material for the outside. I've built the sides roughly 5' x 12' rectangularly. I'd like to find some material that comes in panels that could cover the whole side without creating seams. I'm having trouble finding that size in ACM, FRP, PolyCor, etc. I would be attaching this to a mild steel frame and then insulating it. Do y'all have any suggestions for suppliers and/or materials that could fit this use?

Mold Under Mattress

I've got a home-made teardrop with an interior space of 47" X 75" - I cut a foam full size mattress down to utilize the full amount of space. I have a small electric space heater; this past winter I used it quite a bit.

I pulled up the mattress yesterday for a spring cleaning and noticed a whole lot of mold under it, growing on the plywood bottom. I assume this is because of both respiration as well as body heat from the mattress against the cold plywood causing condensation. What I want to know is how to prevent it in the future. My base is two sheets of plywood sandwiching 1/2" foam insulation. I probably should have put the mattress up on some sort of slats, but I didn't bother - as the mattress is squished against the walls of the trailer as well, I assumed it wouldn't add any meaningful airflow.

So, I look to this group for ideas. When the mattress is the entire floor of your trailer, what did you do to promote enough airflow that mold doesn't show up?

T@B 400 vs Little Guy Max and other questions

Hi I am a first-time RV buyer and would like to get some expert advice. My tow vehicle is a 2020 Toyota Highlander (5000lbs). It will just be my 80 lb dog and me. I will primarily use the trailer for Mountain West camping, but would love to head to FL for Jan and Feb to snowbird. I am a fully remote worker, so I started looking at Class Cs but that’s a big commitment for a first timer, so I would like to start with a teardrop. I don’t have a strong mechanical background, but I am handy and confident. 😊

For the teardrop, I set a budget of $20K and found these two trailers in my local area:

2019 nuCamp T@B 400 Boondock Lite

2019 Little Guy Max Rough Rider

I have watched a few comparison videos and am leaning toward the Little Guy, but have appointments to see both. One is at a local dealer, and one is a private sale.

Please pick apart my plan! Am I delulu? What am I missing? Thoughts on an inspector for one or both?

Trailer is almost done!

I might be overthinking this but Ive been reading so much on where to place the axels and there isn't one clear, perfect answer. In the end I settled on not welding them and bolting on. I went with the 60/40 and for now I just have 1 bolt drilled in case I want to move them a few inches front or back. Until I permanently place them I won't be able to put the fenders on. How does it look, and am I overthinking the wheel placement? I still don't know how much the top half will weigh so I'm stuck in the analysis paralysis phase. But super happy with how this turned out.
